    residency training needs a revolution. I graduated from IM residency and it broke me down in a way that I don’t feel was worth it. My mental, physical health and personal life suffered. it took years to rebuild and feel ok again. I think we tell ourselves it makes us better but I think there should be a better way to train people who will be responsible for the health of others.

      There is a better way, but if you want the money and prestige then you need to go through the hazing process.

      Hi, I was in Peds and I agree with this. It’s very toxic, I destroys you physically and mentally, and what’s worse is that people outside the field glorify it. It’s such a mess, it sucks, 2d year I started losing hair because of not being outside, vitamin D deficiency. Then I had severe weight loss (20lbs) b/c of not eating due to stress. Mental health is such a huge stigma that you can’t even get help because you don’t know what is going on until. Lot of damage occurs. The attendings and other residents gaslight you all the time. It’s like they just try to destroy you in your last year. Because they just like know that you’re are the finish line and don’t want you to succeed, and why because it’s all about the money, and who allows this behavior.

      I had a nurse in my medschool class and she did dermatology, very smart woman in many ways. I wish I was her but she was 10 years older than me and I was naive and didn’t know much about the field of medicine.

    I’m in residency and looking for the light at the end of the tunnel. Right now I’m on a rotation where I am on 24 hr call every 4 th day which is very challenging (and it’s at the VA so super busy and non stop admits, in addition to covering ICU and CCU at night). It’s frustrating that at the end of the 24 hour shift, everyone expects you to keep pushing and you practically cannot leave…so ends up being a 25-26 hr shift with no rest. The so called “short call” days that they say can end at 2p, end up being 12 hr days!!! Only one day off but you’re in such a fog that it doesn’t count and then gotta be back at 6a for 12-15 hr shifts in addition to long call every 4th day. As a PGY-2, attending expect you to senior the team in addition to follow your own patients…the Critical Care and Pulm fellows expect you to expect you to admit their patients overnight, in addition to answer all the nurse pages on their patients all freakin night…not to mention all the wards inpatient nurse pages. On top of that, you gotta respond to rapid and code blue calls when no one showed you what to do or how to resuscitate and you gotta stumble through it on your own. That’s just the beginning of my rant. But I chose this career and wanted so bad to get into residency and here I am. I will tough through it no matter what.

      Hang in there. The days are long, but the year will go fast. It will end.

    • @sunriselotus
      @sunriselotus 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Yeah, and that is another thing, people just go on and on about the hours, the grinding, the grueling g hard work, the not knowing anything but being put on the spot. Medial schools honestly don’t do the job of teaching you how to become a doctor, you just have to learn yourself. And that is the expectation society has if you, is just what you described. And you have to do or die and if you die trying in the process, and that is accepted. Like, I agree with all the people who think that residency needs to be overhauled big time.

  • @alphaomega1351

    Also, your blog and talk also probably helps you a lot because you are acting as your own therapist by having an outlet and as your own therapist and it also helps to interact with your viewers as well so that is also a great thing for social connection, in a way this vlogging is a healing.
