24 HOURS at SEA With INJURED Kid - We didn't talk or show much about the injury during this video but one of our biggest fears with living on the sea is that one of us gets really hurt during a crossing. Luckily Benjamin just experienced a strained muscle in his neck this time. Even though it was a light injury one of us was almost constantly with him to support him through his pain - he had it tough. Being for longer periods on the sea, a lot can happen. Especially when the weather gets rougher and fatigue kicks in while sailing. When Benjamin was 6 months old, we flew in two doctors who trained us how to give first aid to Benjamin at sea. We got to learn that 80% of the injuries are treatable by us and we would have more than enough time to eventually reach a doctor. But with the other 20%, you need to get to a hospital within 24 hours. This is not possible a lot of times when you live on the sea….so we felt extremely grateful for Benjamin ‘just having a strained muscle’ and that we had such a peaceful and slow sail - especially since we are in autumn and heavy weather is coming. PS: we don't like filming Benjamin when he is in pain, and we have our priorities on comforting him as well as possible. Hope you guys understand this and why we didn't pay much attention to the topic in the vlog. We do find it good to talk about because it is a part of our lifestyle. Would love to hear your thoughts about injuries and any stories or advice to share.

I enjoy watching your videos and following your adventures but in making these videos your under no obligation to show us every thing that goes on or need to justify or explain everything you do. Anyone can see you know what your doing with regards to sailing and travel and Benjamin is lucky to have parents such as you. Accidents will always happen. I can't remember not having bumps bruises and scrapes growing and the usual words of wisdom were " well you know not to do that again" though I'm not sure those words sunk in. We only get one go at life so make the most of it and enjoy the ride🏴☠️

Mooie vlog, ik blijf het dapper vinden dat jullie zo'n inkijk in jullie leven geven aan alle vreemdelingen op TH-cam (zoals ik), met de mooie maar ook minder mooie kanten van wat jullie meemaken. Weet niet of ik dat zou kunnen of überhaupt zoveel interessants te melden zou hebben... Dat gevoel van vrijheid en beleving op het water herken ik, geef me een dag zeilen en alle drukte van werk (hoe leuk ik mijn werk ook vind) is vergeten. Ben benieuwd hoe jullie straks de 'grote oversteek' gaan ervaren.
Het is zeker een lap zeil... eerst keken wij er altijd tegenaan om de gennaker te hijsen, een enorme lap en zeker alleen, de ander zorgt meestal voor Benjamin blijft het toch een uitdaging. Maar wanneer het staat en ze gaat dan is het echt fantastisch. Wij voelen het als onze missie om ons leven te delen, door te laten zien dat ondanks enorme tegenslagen het toch mogelijk is om geheel op eigen voorwaarden te leven. Video's opnemen heeft ons echt verrast, wij vinden het bijzonder leuk om te doen en zijn heel blij met Pedro onze editor, dat is echt een vak apart. Wij geloven dat iedereen een mooi verhaal heeft om te delen en dat er overal interessante aspecten zijn. Zeilen is voor ons inderdaad echt vrijheid en dicht bij de natuur, jouw gevoel van alle drukte van werk weg herkennen wij en zijn dan ook erg dankbaar dat wij het nu gewoon mogen combineren, werken terwijl wij zeilen en het niet voelt als werken. De grote oversteek wordt inderdaad next level.

Rianne, I too despise the cold lol. I just went from 40C Doha, Qatar to 5C to visit family. They are in shorts and I have layers on, and they make fun of me because my family emigrated from Norway and Sweden to the United States only 2 generations ago and say I cannot be from the same family haha. Een ongeluk zit in een klein hoekje. Net liep ik gewoon door de kamer op mijn sokken en gleed onderuit en lig nu op de bank met overal pijn. Ohhhh NOOOOOO, zou Benjamin zeggen. Wat vervelend dat jij onderuit bent gegaan Peter, wij wensen jou een snel herstel. Kan mij nog goed herinneren dat Rianne net hoogzwanger van boord was en terug vloog naar Nederland terwijl ik op de boot in Griekenland was en een misstap maakte en onderuit ging van de trap af tegen de mast aan. Dat was een moment dat je weer denkt, voor je het weet, maar inderdaad, meestal komt het allemaal weer goed. Zo leuk om jou aan boord te hebben op onze reis. Going that slow would drive me crazy... I don't mind taking my time going where ever my motorcycle would take me. But I need people around me if I got tired of riding I stop in a small town and just spend a day or two just walking around the town seeing what there was to see and meeting new friends with just about anyone that would give me the time of day. Then back on my motorcycle until I got tired. I carried my tent and bedroll and I grab some food then find a out of the way spot to spend the night. I miss that part of my life... I physically can't do that at this time in my life. One to many motorcycle wrecks. It's been 8yrs since I last was physically able to travel... So I get to watch everyone out here do the traveling for me... LOL... Much love and prayers be blessed in Jesus name... BBE..

Een vlog zonder Benjamin Day is nieuw , hij vond het ook te koud denk ik. Waarom gebruik je niet alle zeilen bij zo weinig wind ? ik ben 6 jaar geleden gestopt met werken en heb sindsdien ook een groei in mijn leven gevoeld , zou kunnen dat dat met zeilen nog sterker is , de grote leegte en het op jezelf aangewezen zijn, dat laat je wel groeien denk ik . Veel plezier in Venetië .
Dat hadden wij ons nog helemaal niet zo beseft maar inderdaad, bijna geen Benjamin in deze vlog. Wanneer er zo weinig wind is dan zijn de gewone zeilen, grootzeil en voorzeil te zwaar voor zulke lichte wind en klapperen alleen maar. Wat mooi om te horen dat je nadat je gestopt bent met werken zo gegroeid bent, we zijn allemaal studenten van leven in onze optiek en zeilen en op zee is zeker een booster 🤩

Hahaha we like cheeky questions. We never need crew since the Perfect Sense is easy handling by the two of us, except from a babysitter for Benjamin we never take crew. Sometimes we have friends and family over but never say never, would be interesting Henk to have you onboard one day.
You are right Miguel, the wind was just a few knots so decided to sail with the gennaker but one big wind shift in the night caused the problems and then single handed getting the beast down is an adventure. This is why parents should be held criminally accountable for their kids getting hurt. No child should be forced to live on a boat. No child should have their lives put at such risk just because the parents are selfish and want to live on a boat. Such parental negligence. Any injuries the kid gets is YOUR fault. You put him in that environment.
Kids can get hurt anywhere, come on! I have been hurt as a kid with just general kids playing around and i have never lived on a boat! Benjamin looks very happy to me! I'm sure he'd rather be there growing up on a boat with as much love and goodness as he can handle and have all these experiences and adventures to look back on as an adult than than stuck in a boring house. I know i would 100%... Opinions are like buttholes... everyone has one and most stink!
In our humble opinion you have a very eccentric way of thinking about how to raise a child. Wondering if you are a parent as well and if so, would love to hear the opinion of your kid(s), how much time you spent time with them, how many times they were ill or got injured. I think Benjamin is a very fortunate child being given the experience from a very young age to experience the good things in life and the opportunity to gain many skills of survival mixed with an appreciation of nature and all its wonders. Compare that to living in a city or town with far greater risks of fast cars, stress, violence, drugs and so forth. Your'e are giving Benjamin a rare life that most can not even imagine exists. Your videos are very relaxing to watch, thank you for your hard work in there production and I hope Venice gives you that dream you have of returning.

Anyone can see you know what your doing with regards to sailing and travel and Benjamin is lucky to have parents such as you. Accidents will always happen. I can't remember not having bumps bruises and scrapes growing and the usual words of wisdom were " well you know not to do that again" though I'm not sure those words sunk in. We only get one go at life so make the most of it and enjoy the ride🏴☠️

Wow, die gennaker is groter dan mijn boot 😄. Mooie vlog, ik blijf het dapper vinden dat jullie zo'n inkijk in jullie leven geven aan alle vreemdelingen op TH-cam (zoals ik), met de mooie maar ook minder mooie kanten van wat jullie meemaken. Weet niet of ik dat zou kunnen of überhaupt zoveel interessants te melden zou hebben... Dat gevoel van vrijheid en beleving op het water herken ik, geef me een dag zeilen en alle drukte van werk (hoe leuk ik mijn werk ook vind) is vergeten. Ben benieuwd hoe jullie straks de 'grote oversteek' gaan ervaren.
Het is zeker een lap zeil... eerst keken wij er altijd tegenaan om de gennaker te hijsen, een enorme lap en zeker alleen, de ander zorgt meestal voor Benjamin blijft het toch een uitdaging. Maar wanneer het staat en ze gaat dan is het echt fantastisch. Wij voelen het als onze missie om ons leven te delen, door te laten zien dat ondanks enorme tegenslagen het toch mogelijk is om geheel op eigen voorwaarden te leven. Video's opnemen heeft ons echt verrast, wij vinden het bijzonder leuk om te doen en zijn heel blij met Pedro onze editor, dat is echt een vak apart. Wij geloven dat iedereen een mooi verhaal heeft om te delen en dat er overal interessante aspecten zijn. Zeilen is voor ons inderdaad echt vrijheid en dicht bij de natuur, jouw gevoel van alle drukte van werk weg herkennen wij en zijn dan ook erg dankbaar dat wij het nu gewoon mogen combineren, werken terwijl wij zeilen en het niet voelt als werken. De grote oversteek wordt inderdaad next level.

Rianne, I too despise the cold lol. I just went from 40C Doha, Qatar to 5C to visit family. They are in shorts and I have layers on, and they make fun of me because my family emigrated from Norway and Sweden to the United States only 2 generations ago and say I cannot be from the same family haha. Kan mij nog goed herinneren dat Rianne net hoogzwanger van boord was en terug vloog naar Nederland terwijl ik op de boot in Griekenland was en een misstap maakte en onderuit ging van de trap af tegen de mast aan. Dat was een moment dat je weer denkt, voor je het weet, maar inderdaad, meestal komt het allemaal weer goed. Zo leuk om jou aan boord te hebben op onze reis. Going that slow would drive me crazy... I don't mind taking my time going where ever my motorcycle would take me. But I need people around me if I got tired of riding I stop in a small town and just spend a day or two just walking around the town seeing what there was to see and meeting new friends with just about anyone that would give me the time of day. Then back on my motorcycle until I got tired. I carried my tent and bedroll and I grab some food then find a out of the way spot to spend the night. I miss that part of my life... I physically can't do that at this time in my life. One to many motorcycle wrecks. It's been 8yrs since I last was physically able to travel... So I get to watch everyone out here do the traveling for me... LOL...

Een vlog zonder Benjamin Day is nieuw , hij vond het ook te koud denk ik. Waarom gebruik je niet alle zeilen bij zo weinig wind ? ik ben 6 jaar geleden gestopt met werken en heb sindsdien ook een groei in mijn leven gevoeld , zou kunnen dat dat met zeilen nog sterker is , de grote leegte en het op jezelf aangewezen zijn, dat laat je wel groeien denk ik . Veel plezier in Venetië .
Dat hadden wij ons nog helemaal niet zo beseft maar inderdaad, bijna geen Benjamin in deze vlog. Wanneer er zo weinig wind is dan zijn de gewone zeilen, grootzeil en voorzeil te zwaar voor zulke lichte wind en klapperen alleen maar. Wat mooi om te horen dat je nadat je gestopt bent met werken zo gegroeid bent, we zijn allemaal studenten van leven in onze optiek en zeilen en op zee is zeker een booster 🤩

You are right Miguel, the wind was just a few knots so decided to sail with the gennaker but one big wind shift in the night caused the problems and then single handed getting the beast down is an adventure. This is why parents should be held criminally accountable for their kids getting hurt. No child should be forced to live on a boat. No child should have their lives put at such risk just because the parents are selfish and want to live on a boat. Such parental negligence. Any injuries the kid gets is YOUR fault. You put him in that environment.
Kids can get hurt anywhere, come on! I have been hurt as a kid with just general kids playing around and i have never lived on a boat! Benjamin looks very happy to me! I'm sure he'd rather be there growing up on a boat with as much love and goodness as he can handle and have all these experiences and adventures to look back on as an adult than than stuck in a boring house. I know i would 100%...

In our humble opinion you have a very eccentric way of thinking about how to raise a child. Wondering if you are a parent as well and if so, would love to hear the opinion of your kid(s), how much time you spent time with them, how many times they were ill or got injured. Thanks for watching and hope you can respect other perspectives on life as well.
I think Benjamin is a very fortunate child being given the experience from a very young age to experience the good things in life and the opportunity to gain many skills of survival mixed with an appreciation of nature and all its wonders. Compare that to living in a city or town with far greater risks of fast cars, stress, violence, drugs and so forth. Your'e are giving Benjamin a rare life that most can not even imagine exists. Your videos are very relaxing to watch, thank you for your hard work in there production and I hope Venice gives you that dream you have of returning.
