Yeah, as others have said, I’ve been able to keep my performance at a nearly locked 60 in this game by using DXVK and turning night shadows off, as well as putting view distance and detail distance to 50. Only transitioning between islands and flying in a helicopter really bring it down now. Would recommend!
Just crank down the night shadow to high, it's more than enough, very high night shadow unoptimised with dxvk.Cuz The night shadow (act as dynamic shadow) illuminate the shadow just nice 4 real. Worth to turn this option to medium or high.... At least better than not at all
with these 3 mods and as well the GTA IV 1th year anniversary pack (found it through a community post on steam) gives a pretty great experience... now if only there were a way to add in multiplayer on CE
Your amazing content is why I subbed you long ago. Your tutorials and videos are the best. Absolutely brilliant! These channels and modders are what keeping games alive and they should be getting more attention. I hope just like gta 4 someone also fixes the awful true crime new york city on PC. Its a good game.
In a way I quite like a little blur, it gave it atmosphere. The dvd never worked on win 10 or 11,but it's code made it playable via the rockstar launcher. I think rockstar toronto converted it to pc. lighting isn't great in GTA V either, object shadows can move as you walk closer or away from them.
Loved the video. Informative and straight to the point. Keep it up! Also: Shoutout to all the modders out there who keep, not only GTA IV, but tons of other games out there alive and still fun to play even after years has passed!
the performance was already fixed with DXVK, converting the API From DirectX to Vulkan gets you a much better frame rate with less stutter. So by default on Linux with proton in Steam you are going to have a much better experience than native Windows.
I don't have a very powerful pc, I might say it's even weak, but it runs GTA 5 good on medium/low settings. The PC even checks all the boxes under "recommended settings" for GTA 4, and yet, I can barely play that game. Even on lowest settings, constant frame drops, screen-tearing etc. This is not The Way.
Thank you so much friend! I can't tell you how useful this video was❤ I chose to install console visuals the manual way to make sure it worked properly and like the read me said the manual way is super long and boring but when I loaded into the game, it was buttery smooth 😊 made such a difference I think it lowkey also helps with performance because before I couldn't really enable shadows it would make the game very laggy. It's been such a journey modding this game and making it playable but so rewarding. On an unrelated note I am a sound engineer and there's a hit marker mod a really cool person made where he let's you put any .wav audio files into the headshot folder and that sound will play out when you hit a headshot, I made my own sound effects for it and if anyone would like to try it out in there game I'd be happy to share it. Also I've seen alot of stuff on the internet about the episode of livery city not working properly anymore after modding and downgrading, I had the same issue but I discovered that it was the potential grim mod that would either crash episodes or cause infinite load screen . Just thought I'd share, and thank you again it truly warms my heart to see this game getting love to this day and people like you still making content on how to fix it and make it playable.
I remember the good old days with my crappy PC having definition turned off and when i was walking around hove beach watching the sunset, pure nostalgia.
Do I need all three and their other dozen of required fixes installed? This is a nightmare... Why they can't just merge all these projects into one with simpler installation?
It's amazing how much better the game looked on 360 for so many years. It certainly looks and plays great on my Xbox One X. PC got shafted majorly. However mods are probably the best part of PC gaming. With a select set of mods, mainly FusionFix, Various Fixes, Console Visuals, and DXVK, GTAIV is TRANSFORMED. It FINALLY looks as good as it could have over a decade ago! With some HD texture packs over the top of that, it looks incredibly modern and shows how high the devs reached on the 360 version. It's awesome how the PC community has rallied in the past few years and started updating their mods for the new version of the game. My only gripe is the game has very strong aliasing and Fusion Fix's FXAA doesn't do much for it at 1440p. Instead I'm using SMAA+FXAA+Fidelity FX CAS via Reshade. That gets me a much better result than any of the in-game options do. I wish we could do DSR with this game but it seems not to like it with or without DXVK.
Where's Vulkan support for GTA IV? I downloaded, used it and every performance issue with the game has DISSAPEARED. The stutters, the loading bugs, everything. It stutters in the beginning when loading it all up, but i also think it stutters in the start because i have the game on HDD, but after 1-2minutes of loading the game, there was apsolutely NO stutters and FPS drops. AT ALL.
For those of you looking for nicer shadows without mods, turn down the shadow setting to high. It preserves a lot of the detail of very high, doesn’t look insanely sharp, and can heavily reduce resource usage (on the Steam Deck, high shadows reduced GPU usage by 30-50% depending on the area).
the funny thing was for over 15 years people called me crazy for not liking the pc version of gta 4, now people are actually realizing how crappy it is both performance and graphically, i have stuck to the xbox 360 for gta 4 exclusively, im glad though that modders are finally fixing all these graphical bugs with the game.
I don't think you're correct about that first sentence. GTA IV's PC port is notoriously bad, so much so that people had to literally download a graphics mod in the early days to get it to run smoothly without crashes. Even Rockstar themselves used the mod in the Meltdown movie for GTA V. And on top of that, you had to deal with that awful Games for Windows Live bullshit which was a plague on PC gaming back in the 7th generation. It wasn't until 2012 & 2013ish when GTA IV without that ugly graphics mod could FINALLY be play smoothly on PC due to the newer GPUs at that time. And even then, the PC port is still a mess to this day.
@@fredster594 Ik It was horrible in the beginning, but I knew a lot of people in the GTA forums who were defending GTA 4 on PC saying it was the best version of the game. Those were typically the people who made these mods aswell now.
@@thedrbat9572 It depends. GTA IV is generally a really poorly optimized game that even the console versions run like shit with both 360 and PS3 barely running at a consistent 30fps. The PC port can negate those issues by having a mid tier PC which can not only make the fps more consistent but also exceed 30fps. It also doesn't help that GTA IV visually is a really ugly game with some of the worst blur effects I've seen in a video game which is especially prevelant in the console versions. While the PC port has a lot of technical and graphical problems, you can't deny that the game on average looks a LOT better on PC with it having less of that hideous blur, more natural looking vegetation and a much nicer gamma than the console versions.
@@fredster594 well thats the thing, I don't just deny that the PC version looks better, it's clearly worse visually, maybe it's a preference thing, but the dry matte look on PC is so hideous and it is stuttery too, blurriness isn't so bad when the rest of the visuals are atleast able to be working correctly, what's the point of clearness on PC? Clearly getting to the see the problems of the game??
Question: is there a way to combine this mod and the Radio Downgrader? R* removed a bunch of cool songs from the game via the latest update and I want those back, but both FusionFix and the Radio Downgrader have a "dinput8.dll" and I'm afraid that one file would be conflicting with the other, breaking one or both mods.
Do these mods only work if you have the retail and steam versions? I have the rockstar games launcher version and I heard, that version is very limited in mod support or you can't really mod it at all!
It’s just a shame that modders even have to do this in the first place. GTA 4 is the reason why Rockstar is where it is now, and they don’t seem to appreciate that.
One thing I heard years ago on a stream was that this game on PS3 wasn't timed to resolution perfectly it ran at 720p even with a 1080p TV and consequently, you had to "force" the console to run the console at a higher resolution by disabling the 720p check from the settings
@@tritekk I have no idea :| Meanwhile, when that person had deactivated the 720p the game seemed to go a little better in quality, now I don't remember exactly, it's been a few years
The PS3 version of the game renders at 1152x640, if you uncheck 720p from the PS3 options then ANY game that only runs in 720p will just be stretched to 1080p instead, which for some people can look better but it will be more jaggy and pixelated.
Hey guys, just a general question, every time I install the game it only recognizes my CPU but never my GPU so I can't even put the game at max settings (I have a RTX 3050). Anyway to solve it? Any mod or anything? I have searched and nothing so far :(
Sadly the one of the console visuals absolutely borked my game to a point no NPCs would load in at all, no audio on phone at all, cutscenes wouldn't load so I couldn't start a new save game. I'm assuming it's the one involving NPCs, if NPCs can not load at all and everything is in engine, I'd assume that's likely what did it.
this being one of my lifetime favorites, its such as shame that they gave the community the middle finger in terms of pc port quality. thankfully it is slowly getting there.
The biggest problem with gta4 on pc was *not* these gfx problems. The biggest problem was the vehicle controls which made it unplayable with keyboard. They straight up ported the analog control scheme meant for controllers onto pc, where most ppl use keyboard, and keyboard is a digital device, not analog. This made driving/flying incredibly frustrating.
All this is nice but for me graphics is not very important. Thus I would actually like to see someone fix the technical aspect of the game, making it work on the hardware that it should work on properly. That would be a great fix, if anyone could do that. Sadly, none of the modders are that skilled.
Being honest a lot of the fixed shaders get more performance out of the game compared to the broken ones, so if you want more performance, then using the newer shaders with lower settings should give you a boost.
Well those graphical improvements likely doesn't seem too great for handhelds like the Steam Deck. Well, that might not be true. I do have a repack of EFLC which i think has mods pre-installed and it runs far too good on the steam deck as it is. I've added a ton of commandline stuff and whatnot.
I have alot of experience modding different games and GTA IV is by far the most frustrating to mod, all the different game versions and lack of compatibility between mods with very little documentation make it a nightmare. Alot of the most popular tools and programs like the downgrader just do not work on some machines like mine for unknown reasons, just leading to blackscreens that require fresh reinstalls. And when you do get it working, it just updates itself breaking everything despite having updates disabled and mods specifically to prevent this from happening haha.
Hi TJGM! Do we need to copy all the content inside fusionfix archive to the GTA IV main directory in order to have this mod installed in complete edition? Thanks in advance.
I would never understand Rockstar Games management, they have the best modding community, they would just have to make a nice check and offer jobs to these modders to solve all these problems in their games.
ok, so one problem I have is Various Fixes or I don't know which option to install is the best to use for the modloader "update" folder. I have auto-installation, Installation through Fusion Fix and Manual installation. Since I have Fusion Fix installed, I used the second method. I dragged and dropped the folders from there into the update the folder. When trying to launch the game from Steam, the game wouldn't start. It will always try to run but then refuses to open. And it happened every time I tried launching it through Steam. Removing the folders helped fixing the issue. Any idea what it might be causing the issue?
Is the Console Visuals mod worth installing if I never played GTA IV on any console? Does it improve anything or is it just a nostalgic step back to console graphics? I want to play the best possible version of GTA IV on PC.
it's strange, but fusionfix neither as dxvk won't work, latest steam version, latest drivers on gtx 1070, and game runs regular vanilla version or just crashing
The biggest problem with the PC version was the one bug in two missions you had to spam spacebar and it was impossible to not fail. Other than that and installing the game after the Games Of Windows Live service shutdown I do not recall there being broken stuff (atleast years after release). However, having modders improve the experience is appreciated nonetheless.
That's a frame rate issue, you can easily fix it by limiting your frame rate to 30 at those sections. Although it is annoying. Still a lot of stuff broken after the GFWL shut down, as seen in this video :P
You have to play this game capped at 60 fps, not 30 as many people say. Above 60 is where problems begin. Another thing is, GFWL never shut down, it still works as of today. It was only removed by Rockstar from the Steam version when they released the complete edition, but still works on any previous version or if you have the physical edition.
Anyone else have an issue where after a few minutes of playing GTA IV the frame rate continuously gets lower and lower until the games running at 1 fps?
is there any mod to fix the games mouse sensitivity? whenever i play this game the mouse feels too fast and changing dpi does not change anything, i am basically forced to use a controller at this point.
My main issue with trying to play gta4 over a month long period is having to reinstall it due to rockstar putting a random 200kb update just to screw over those who downgraded to patch 1.8 or 1.7
My biggest problems with pc port were related to using a high frequency screen. 1. Near impossible to finish main story last mission with helicopter 2. Air hokey is not fun because the puck is slow or gets stuck 3. Arm wrestling is too hard Good thing jittery cutscenes can be fixed
The old GTA games require 30fps. 60pfs or higher creates instability not just in GTA 4 but also in the old 3D trilogy. Our new PCs can reach 100fps easily so they become more and more unstable. The fusionfix mod does include a framelimiter thankfully for cutscenes and ingame.
I couldn't manage to log into the game so that I would be able to save. Also, is there a mod that's still available that sets the car camera more like it is in GTA5. This could be a great addition to fusionfix imo.

Just crank down the night shadow to high, it's more than enough, very high night shadow unoptimised with dxvk.Cuz The night shadow (act as dynamic shadow) illuminate the shadow just nice 4 real. Worth to turn this option to medium or high.... At least better than not at all
@@ferdirenaldi3303 word I’ll give it a shot. I never really noticed a difference between on and off so I just figured they were broken or something.
with these 3 mods and as well the GTA IV 1th year anniversary pack (found it through a community post on steam) gives a pretty great experience... now if only there were a way to add in multiplayer on CE
I didn't even know that PC version was so broken because i never saw console version. Great work!
Truly a Rockstar moment.
Highly underrated channel I hope u get the viewers u deserve! Btw what accent is that? I just couldn’t guess lmao
Just thought I'd share, and thank you again it truly warms my heart to see this game getting love to this day and people like you still making content on how to fix it and make it playable.
they could have used some of that shark card money to fix it themselves.
I remember the good old days with my crappy PC having definition turned off and when i was walking around hove beach watching the sunset, pure nostalgia.
Do I need all three and their other dozen of required fixes installed? This is a nightmare... Why they can't just merge all these projects into one with simpler installation?
Damn I gotta play through GTA 4 again
I think I have to play this game again. Thank you for this video man. You got a sub from me :D
I started playing GTA IV today. Thankfully the algorithm brought me here so i can have the best experience.
What a weird coincidence I just decided to continue my playthrough on steam deck a few days ago and found this
It’s mind boggling how broken the pc port is
It's amazing how much better the game looked on 360 for so many years.
AT ALL.
Imagine all of this with GTA (IV) Connected. That whould be cool! Great video btw.
I haven't really played this game since release. Outside of performance, I wasn't aware it had several graphical issues on PC compared to console.
the funny thing was for over 15 years people called me crazy for not liking the pc version of gta 4, now people are actually realizing how crappy it is both performance and graphically, i have stuck to the xbox 360 for gta 4 exclusively, im glad though that modders are finally fixing all these graphical bugs with the game.
Clearly getting to the see the problems of the game??
where are the fixes for all the mission bugs like the one dance mini game where u just freeze but everything around u keeps moving?!
GTA IV was so ahead of it's time that you had to wait 15 years to play it on your PC.
is there an easy to follow tutorial on how to get all these mods working and with DVKV?
Question: is there a way to combine this mod and the Radio Downgrader? R* removed a bunch of cool songs from the game via the latest update and I want those back, but both FusionFix and the Radio Downgrader have a "dinput8.dll" and I'm afraid that one file would be conflicting with the other, breaking one or both mods.
It's just an Ultimate ASI Loader by ThirteenAG . It will not make the conflict
They're the same, but use the one from Fusion Fix in case you have an old version of Radio Downgrader.
The PC port is such a disgrace, imagine making such a fantastic game then giving it such a bad port and never even attempting to fix it
Doesn't this multimulliondollar corp have anybody to fix their own games? Not one dude from any of their departments. That's absolutely amazing.
Yeah. Agree with you. Very typical R* moment.
Do these mods only work if you have the retail and steam versions? I have the rockstar games launcher version and I heard, that version is very limited in mod support or you can't really mod it at all!
unconsciously my brain noticed that the rain wasn't the same as in the consoles but I never paid attention to it.
Do mods disable achievements in GTA IV? Great video :)
Wow! So it was depth of field all the time on consoles not 2x AA?? I knew something was off with the PC version and it never looked right.
What are the remaining issues on pc compared to consoles? Please make a video on it sometime.
2:58 I wish I would join something like that in gta sa
It’s just a shame that modders even have to do this in the first place. GTA 4 is the reason why Rockstar is where it is now, and they don’t seem to appreciate that.
Technically you can say GTA3 to 5 are the reason Rockstar is where it’s at now
@@MrJohnlennon007
Yes but GTA 4 was a huge step. GTA 5 is literally built on GTA 4.
Plz make a installation guide for these mods showcased
Currently replaying the game with the iceenhancer 3.0 enb and a few other mods and its so refreshing after all the years of vanilla gameplay
Loved the mod, hope it continues to grow without Rockstar threatening it like it happened to other ones
One thing I heard years ago on a stream was that this game on PS3 wasn't timed to resolution perfectly it ran at 720p even with a 1080p TV and consequently, you had to "force" the console to run the console at a higher resolution by disabling the 720p check from the settings
nah its meant to run at 720p, most games on the ps3 cant handle 1080p
@@tritekk I have no idea :| Meanwhile, when that person had deactivated the 720p the game seemed to go a little better in quality, now I don't remember exactly, it's been a few years
The PS3 version of the game renders at 1152x640, if you uncheck 720p from the PS3 options then ANY game that only runs in 720p will just be stretched to 1080p instead, which for some people can look better but it will be more jaggy and pixelated.
@@ash735 Theoretically the game should work well at 1080p, I don't think the rockstar at the time did stupid things like now
Hey guys, just a general question, every time I install the game it only recognizes my CPU but never my GPU so I can't even put the game at max settings (I have a RTX 3050).
How do you install these mods? I’ve been putting them in my gta 4 root folder but it keeps crashing my game :(
Do you have a tutorial on how to add these mods correctly?
this being one of my lifetime favorites, its such as shame that they gave the community the middle finger in terms of pc port quality.
thankfully it is slowly getting there.
I never had any crashes on PC port of this game back in 2008.
I would never understand Rockstar Games management, they have the best modding community, they would just have to make a nice check and offer jobs to these modders to solve all these problems in their games.
love the mod however I don't have the extra options in the menu
ok, so one problem I have is Various Fixes or I don't know which option to install is the best to use for the modloader "update" folder.
Have you updated FusionFix and UAL to their latest versions so the modloader is included?
@@ash735 Yes, v1.72 of Fusion Fix and 5.2 version of UAL as of now
Did you downgrade your game? The latest version of FusionFix won't work on older versions of GTA IV.
Liked and subbed. Excellent content!
Wait so the atmosphere for each of the GTA 4 stories are just filters over the screen? Am I understanding that right?
Bro you are amazing!!! it would we awesome if u do a video about how to install these mods in GTA IV!
Is the Console Visuals mod worth installing if I never played GTA IV on any console? Does it improve anything or is it just a nostalgic step back to console graphics? I want to play the best possible version of GTA IV on PC.
Possibly downgrades light sources shadows by leaving only car headlights shadows and some interior ones.
Nope... I've did some tests. Various Fixes mod does something with exterior shadows, casuing you to have only car headlights shadows at night.
Hey there, I have installed these mods, they're actually incredible, however I have encountered the infamous taxi glitch, any suggestions?
Increase the vehicle budget inside the fusion fix ini.
it's strange, but fusionfix neither as dxvk won't work, latest steam version, latest drivers on gtx 1070, and game runs regular vanilla version or just crashing
R☆ will be like, fuck moder cease and densist them, we gonna release gta iv remaster.
I get both black and white raindrops now, don't know why.
It was only removed by Rockstar from the Steam version when they released the complete edition, but still works on any previous version or if you have the physical edition.
the Console Visual downloads arent working, i click on the DOWNLOADS but nothing happens
modders these days are quick, i remember back in the day it would take 5 months for mods to release but now its like a week when a game comes out.
It's hilarious that modders continue to do a better job at managing games than the actual developers
Always been like that
Question is how do I actually install these mods?
As a PC player playing the game in the last year, I had no idea the console verison was better and there were mods for this.
6:48 I will personally never understand the "bad AA is better than no AA" idea.
Modding this game just makes it 100x times better than any GTA that will ever exist
Could you make a tutorial on how to install all these mods please.
Yeah, I had to turn mouse sensitivity all the way down. The sensitivity is still very high though, I noticed. But far more tolerable.
ZolikaPatch
@@BDozer666byeah
My main issue with trying to play gta4 over a month long period is having to reinstall it due to rockstar putting a random 200kb update just to screw over those who downgraded to patch 1.8 or 1.7
My biggest problems with pc port were related to using a high frequency screen.
1. Near impossible to finish main story last mission with helicopter
2. Air hokey is not fun because the puck is slow or gets stuck
3. Arm wrestling is too hard
Good thing jittery cutscenes can be fixed
The old GTA games require 30fps. 60pfs or higher creates instability not just in GTA 4 but also in the old 3D trilogy. Our new PCs can reach 100fps easily so they become more and more unstable.
The fusionfix mod does include a framelimiter thankfully for cutscenes and ingame.
I couldn't manage to log into the game so that I would be able to save.
Also, is there a mod that's still available that sets the car camera more like it is in GTA5. This could be a great addition to fusionfix imo.
so it wont work on cracked version of game. Like any crack version? are u serious?
The steam version usually has monthly updates, do these updates remove mods?
