It's nice to see what we can get from our growing spaces, especially after the season we have had, let's not blame the weather......... ♻️Happy gardening, Terry King.
Wow some awesome carrots 🥕 this year Dan. You have had some amazing harvests even with all the shite weather and slug issues. Have a super week Dan, Ali 🌞🥵🇨🇦
Hi Dan. Well impressed with the carrots, they look brilliant. And definitely going to grab some of the Jazzy next season as they look great. Been a tough year, but Mother nature provides 😁 Take Care Dan and catch up soon, Andy and Karen 👍😎
Kohl Rabi - I cook Beetroot, peel and chop into chunks, let it cool, mix in chunks of (raw) Kohl Rabi and some Greek yoghurt, for a salad. It all goes red, so the Beetroot and Kohl Rabi chunks look similar, but have different texture and confuse my guests! Probably better if the Kohl Rabi is not too woody ...
Hi Dan, that's a great crop of potatoes. Try the Kolrabi, you won't be disappointed - cabbage and brocolli flavours. Thanks for the videos, I really enjoy watching them.
Eyup Dan. We definitely need to see the kohlrabi taste test. I gather they are similar to broccoli stalks and my dog loves a bit of that so the little fella might be in for a treat. Or not. Your carrots are always tip top. Enjoy! I'll sithi after! Dave.
Hopefully the recycled compost will contain beneficial organisms from the microbiome that established around this years crop, and benefit next years planting.
I grow kohlrabi (it means “turnip cabbage” in German)- it tastes like white cabbage crossed with broccolli but has the texture of a crisp apple. Makes lovely coleslaw but it has to be eaten the same day as it'll go watery if you try to keep it. The young leaves make a good addition to a salad but yours look a bit old and woody - I usually pick them smaller than a tennis ball and eat them raw but you can treat it like a turnip for cooking. Bit of a surprise when you were expecting red cabbage though 😄 As usual, your carrots look way better than mine, but they all taste good
The kohlrabi I've grown for the first time this year, it eats well in coleslaw or what I do is cut in into chunky chip size bits cover in oil, salt, pepper and air fry roast with the other roast veg, turns out really good, only needs 5 mins in the air fryer..
I've not dug up a carrot as yet this year. Not entirely the weather's fault, yet it took four sowings for a decent row to survive the slugs. The carrot fly will get them though. These organic slug pellets dont work as well as the metaldehyde ones. I use nematodes and beer traps and the occasional relocation.
Kohlrabi is tasty and decent as a cabbage alternative in some things e.g. coleslaw. Although I'd be a bit annoyed if I was expecting cabbage. At least you weren't already growing kohlrabi elsewhere though. I've actually just had a similar issue with 3 tomato plants that have all come out as a different variety (and not a particularly nice tasting one either). So I will be writing an email to the seed company. I had a similar issue with the Cobra beans. Got some ok harvests the last few weeks but nothing like the harvests I got last year.
That is exactly what happened to me last year... The red cabbage weren't , they were khol rabi.... Tried cooking them... awful, I found them tasteless... It was a proper disappointment. I did question myself but I know it was a red cabbage packet... I think my seeds were D T Brown.

You can eat the leaves of kohl rabi 😊

Doesn't the reused soil have a build up of salts from the fertiliser and a lower electrical conductivity?
I got some organic slug pellets they love them😂
Do you store the potatoes for seed in the dark? I presume the porch is cool too?
Where’s tha based roughly? Anywhere near Mirfield/Huddersfield. I grew Touchen carrots this had a decent crop but none for show as not uniformed.
Are the great looking carrots in the raised bed growing in just sand or is there soil mixed in as well?
The sand is cored out with a drain pipe and then the hole is filled with compost about every 6 inches or so apart.
Cheers Dan 😊
If the kohlrabi is too far gone it's still good for making stock with.
