I took that route once, going from VA to NOLA. Since Amtrak uses freight train rails, it has to put up with freight train traffic. We got behind a freight train that repeatedly broke down when cars became unbuckled. We'd stop for an hour, the freight train would be fixed, we'd go a couple miles and it would break down again. Luckily I spent the time in the dining car with a delightful man from California and we had a lovely afternoon (they didn't ask us to leave, I guess because of the delays). We got into NOLA about 6 hours late, in the middle of the night, taxis still waiting at the station. I finally got to bed at my hotel at 4 am. An awful and a wonderful trip.
We've a couple of experiences with trains that get further and further behind because of the freight trains. We still choose to take more trips with Amtrak, but it is disappointing that Amtrak is always the one that has to wait. Especially since the law states it should be the reverse.
Grew up riding the Crescent from Alexandria, VA, to Atlanta when it was Southern Railway and my Dad worked for Southern in DC and my family is from Atlanta.
Really enjoying your videos. Informative and so relaxing to watch. I am in the UK and my partner is in Mississippi. We plan to do an Amtrak trip in the future so this is really helpful.
Glad you are enjoying the videos. We looked at a lot when planning the trip, and wanted to pass along our experiences to others looking to tske an Amtrak trip. Hope your trip comes together for you.

My dad rode the Southern Crescent often when I was younger. Mostly from NYC to Greensboro NC. It has a lot of history.
Glad you are enjoying them. We hope your plans come together to take that trip on Amtrak in the not too distant future.
Great video, I see and ride the Crescent all the time. I see it in Bessemer AL. I am going to New Orleans from Birmingham AL this summer.
It was our first trip riding on the Crescent. Hope you enjoy your trip to New Orleans.
Just subscribed and want to thank you for your wonderful videos!!! Hello from Tennessee
