    Thank you for providing a clear explanation of Brazilian clave! I am a music student who has just joined a Latin jazz ensemble. Your video has cleared up my confusion about clave in Brazilian music, and how it's different from son clave in salsa.

    Hi, great class! I am Brazilian. What you called Brazilian clave is what I listen to on Axé music from Salvador (Brazilian city).

    Bossa Nova clave is what you described. We have other types of clave in Brazil, a country of thousands of rhythms.

    Hi Kalani. You might want to have a look at Maracatu from the state of Pernambuco. Check out the two main types of Maracatu, Baque solto e Baque virado.

    Hi you explain very well.
    But You cannot calle it Brazilian clave. Because that is used in the samba School mocidade independente de padre Miguel of Rio de Janeiro. Or in the bossa nova. Or In the rythm Merengue in salvador de Bahia.
    But i think that making a generalization like Brazilian clave its tô avoid ALL the others Brazilian claves that exist and até às such as important. As that one that you are teaching . For example: Cabula, ixeja, partido alto, maracatu...

    Hello, great clear presentation!Could you comment on how typical agogo bell patterns fit in with Brazilian Clave? Also it would be handy to see typical sir do patterns in relation to Brazilian Clave..
    If you could also post or talk about how a Caixa pattern would fit with the Clave it would be very informative and probably handy for keeping people together on their various parts and not playing in opposite positions relating to Clave.
    It's also interesting that many repenique entrance calls are a total of six beats so people have to know how to enter in the proper position with clave, in that case on the second "half" of Clave.
    Thanks again!

      Yes Bo Didley Clave is 3/2 Son & not 2/3

      Son has been around since the 1800s. I wonder if Bo Diddley knew about Cuban and Caribbean music? Cultural exchange at its best!

    As a Brazilian musician I can say everytime someone counts any brazilian rythm in 4/4 you can call it bull. There is not ANY brazilian rythm counted in 4/4. We use 2/4 ALWAYS. And usually joke calling it "gringo" any attempt to feel the music in 4/4. It is just wrong. Don't hear anyone who tell you otherwise.

    • @Jaburu
      @Jaburu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      depende eu diria. claro q base grave é 2/4, mas nesse caso (base aguda) vc precisaria de 2 compassos em 2/4, q n faz muito sentido na teoria eurocêntrica

    • @Dovaral1
      @Dovaral1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A clave latina também tem 2 compassos e ninguém reclama. Não sei de onde vc tirou essa informação q não faz sentido na teoria eurocentrica. E outra, a música brasileira não vem de base eurocentrica (pelo menos a parte ritmica), portanto usar a teoria eurocêntrica para explica-la é apenas um "anacronismo geografico". É o msm q querer explicar a música do gamelão com a teoria musical do ocidente do século XVIII, ou os corais de Bach sob a perspectiva dos Zulu, simplesmente não faz sentido. A teoria músical não é única, existem várias teorias e isso parece claro pra vc quando fala de uma "teoria eurocentrica". Pq então se limitar apenas a ela para sua resposta? Para mais informações sobre o assunto recomendo vc buscar o video do Adam Neely onde ele discorre sobre a supremacia branca na teoria musical.

    • @Jaburu
      @Jaburu 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Dovaral1 hehe. vi esse vídeo do Neely hj mais cedo. mas ai então n pode nem fazer contagem, pq música brasileira se aprende acompanhando os outros...não tem essa de contagem. ou seja, também é errado dizer q ta em 2/4
      mas ai vem o Kalani e quer mostrar para quem n pode aprender assim. então ele mostra no sistema q ele e os espectadores dele conhecem.
      nem sabia q a clave latina tem 2 compassos. entendo porra nenhuma da "teoria eurocentrica" rs

    • @Dovaral1
      @Dovaral1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Jaburu Lógico q pode fazer contagem, pq não poderia? Contagem não é exclusivo da música ocidental. Tem contagem na Índia, no Japão, na música árabe, em Bali e, inclusive, naquela roda choro de boteco que a galera ta "aprendendo a acompanhar". Tanto o Kalani, quanto o publico dele, quanto o sistema q ele entende, todos eles, compreendem o conceito de 2/4. Não está fora do mundo dessa gente. Agora, acessibilidade não é desculpa para ensinar um conceito errado, falo de novo ERRADO. Sentir o samba em 4 é errado. Não precisa acreditar em mim não, pergunta pra qq sambista q vc conheça, ele imediatamente vai dizer q é coisa de gringo. Ainda mais quando a teoria certa cabe muito bem no sistema que todos nós conhecemos.
      Agora, da próxima vez pensa 2 vezes antes de usar um argumento como o da "teoria eurocentrica" visto q vc pouco entende do assunto. Ainda mais quando entra pra debater com alguém q, declaradamente, disse que estudou música. Dizer q "não faz sentido para a teoria eurocentrica" pra logo depois assumir q vc não manja nada do assunto mostra a trucada q vc tentou dar alí, mas eu não sou ignorante pra cair nessas não. Mas é só uma dica, segue se quiser. Seguimos aprendendo, sempre.

      @@Dovaral1 vc se acha o fodão né? rs
      mas vc n é nada coerente ao criticar o sistema e ao mesmo tempo defendendo encaixar o samba ali. e falando em encaixar, da pra encaixar tanto em 2/4 como 4/4
