i notice PFL is good at working Around UFC ..they will do a fight on a Friday or wait until UFC has a off week , and do a Saturday card ! i wonder if PPV cost will go up on cards with Francis and Jake ..perhaps .. i think they might unify a few divisions (champ vs champ) then go to a typical rankings format ..probably the most alluring and best way to blend it and start some traction towards the new league

Having 5 different PFL “brands” is just so muddled. Their whole outline of their plan is completely muddled. It’s like they’re spending 100 million dollars on ideas they got off a reddit thread.
The fact is, Donn Davis isn’t an MMA guy. Anybody that listens to him talk can instantly tell, and it all comes off so theatrical and marketed. This whole venture is doomed once the UFC gets Usman Nurmagomedov.

if they have a card like last night AND keep pay per views at 50 ..they could get some numbers .. finding / watching PFL is usually similar to UFC , their non PPV events and prelim cards are on ESPN plus , which is nice to attract some UFC fans .. once they have Bellator fighters vs PFL guys , plus Francis they can have some really nice cards that might sell ... illegal streams have really dented everyone's PPV numbers IMO ..Bellator has some big names but they seem lost over on Showtime .. i don't even know how to watch them or if they have PPV lol ..once they merge fully they should do it through ESPN plus and have PPV's once in awhile like UFC

Pfl seem to think if they keep pouring enough money down the drain, eventually theyll be bigger than ufc and will then start making a profit

Lol. Like what money? Haven't paid Francis anything significant yet. It is all marketing so far. No info on how much they paid for bellator. Just haters speculating.

The PFL format does need a bit of adjustment but it is necessary to differentiate itself from other promotions and I think guys like you make it a lot more complicated than it really is any PFL fans that have been watching clearly understand whats being done here

Personally I wish they would ditch it- or at least modify it- because it seems like a big headache and hard to build stars. We’ll see if they dig their heels in to keep it.

This is essentially some dude who has no clue what he’s talking having a take and cherry picking little things he thinks backs it up. He’s clearly wildly uninformed in how the deal took place. He also, just as any of us, have no clue what pfl plans to do.
He literally makes the claims that pfl should have focused their money on signing ufc stars:
1- PFL made the acquisition using a stock offering. They didn’t pay cash out of pocket and secured the rights to over 200 fighters.
2- pfl didn’t even have a bantanweight division, the most competitive division in the world arguably, and now have potentially the best bantamweight in the world. Not to mention guys like nurmagomedov, zabits brother, and other interesting fighters in other divisions they do not have to compete with anyone to sign.
3- if you have listened to Donn Davis, pfl has big plans and part of it is having a hand in making the biggest fights. Meaning between the pfl ppv series and bellator one-offs, I’d be surprised if we didn’t get some very compelling matchups
4- PFL had been getting screwed by signing good fighters who simply can’t keep up with the pfl format. This allows them to figure out the best fit for their talent
5- the whole % of the top 15 is a cherry picked stat. Obviously when it comes to the best of the best in each weightclass, those rankings will be dominated by the ufc. If you expand the rankings, it’s much closer. But the pfl was already signing guys like Shane Burgos, Derek brunson, Francis Ngannou. With the bellator fighters as well, I see them becoming an even more legitimate option for free agents.
Pfl has a ton to figure out. Saying it was a colossal mistake at this point is literally just clickbait as you have no clue how any of this works out practically. Pfl also has several other announcements coming over the next couple weeks so again why speculate like when you are wildly uninformed (as is most of the world) when it comes to this.

Here's the problem with non fightmatrix rankings: they skew strongly towards UFC fighters because of the massive popularity of the UFC. The reason only 2% of non UFC fighters are ranked highly on tapology is because fans rank UFC fighters and don't even include non UFC fighters because they're marks who only watch the UFC. Tapology "world rankings" are an absolute joke. Fightmatrix might not be perfect but is objective.
I don't think your essay is way off or anything but a couple things: UFC fighters are locked into exploitative contracts, PFL can't just go spend 100m on UFC fighters. They made the move that they could actually make that will buy their brand some more notability for now. What will really be the key though is injunctive relief as a result of the antitrust suit. If that happens and contracts change they'll be able to go to the Saudi's and ask for another bag of money to go do what you think they should have done (but can't) with this last bag.
PFL's viability IMO hinges on the antitrust suit. With no injunctive relief they're done as soon as the investor money dries up. As is the UFC's monopoly is so strong that without changes to their business practices I think it's impenetrable. This comes from a resigned UFC hater/Bellator "shill" FWIW.

This was the best decision PFL has ever made they literally purchase Bellator for stock options and small equity percentage.

Definitely. Almost no cost up front, but depending on how many fighters they keep on the roster, the bigger cost could be keeping them all on roster. If I were them, I’d be very selective who to keep around.

Lol. So much speculation with no actual info. He framed it like you could either get 10-15 big ufc guys or all of bellator. Every fighter in the ufc is locked down. Only francis has left on a win or as champion. Who cares about used up old ufc talent. pFL needs to create their own stars. But first they have to have talent to out them against. This guy is legit mentaly challenged.

It’s not complex at all you’re simply an American MMA fan/content creator 😂😂😂. It looks like they’re structuring this to where Bellator and the PFL regional leagues will be akin the English Premier League, La Liga, The Seria A, etc while the PFL grand stage will be akin to the champions league aka a continental league. A non American fan looking at this can understand what they’re trying to do with ease.

I see what you’re saying, but there’s a lot of differences between team sports like the flow of these structures in MMA. Injuries and preferences of when and where to fight are things that affect MMA athletes that don’t affect other pro sports, and I’m not sure everything will work out as cleanly as the PFL may hope. A lot of fighters will probably just want more agency of when, where, and against whom they fight and opt to compete with other promotions. But I’m sure there’s a market- particularly outside the US- that’s more interested in this kind of structure!

@@mmaecosystemyea, you addressed this in you're video don't know what this guy's on about. If you look at boxing it's kinda ruining the sport, so many belts that no one cares about and it takes years to get the good fights.
