We are Heather, Bradey, Alexa and Chloe. We purchased an abandoned stone barn in the foothills of the Italian Alps and we are working together as a family to renovate and restore this old stone barn into our dream home.
I would trust the italian way of building. Houses have been standing there for thousands of years ☝️
Especially compared to the wood / dry wall constructions they build in North America. I mean, it is great that ou can just move a window in a day if you want to, but durability is terrible.
I agree. As the old saying goes, “When in Rome, do as the Romans”
@@BenvanBroekhuijsen and btw I do not like drywalls because they do not hold anything like a shelf or similar. Much better to use walls made of ytongs.
Japanese thought. Always have something that is not perfect in your garden, your house , because nothing is perfect in life, in nature and it brings you closer to reality.
Your hard work is showing! No accidents, no one hurt! That is a blessing in and of it self! I'm excited for you all! Stay safe! Blessings from New Hampshire USA!

That wide window sitting area is known as a “window seat” regardless of the width. It is quite common in older mansions in Wisconsin where I’m from, but I’ve also seen them in great houses in England. You will love sitting there reading your favorite books and sipping coffee! I love how you both included your girls in the labor of love in the garden. You give such encouragement to each of them and I’m sure they will cherish these memories forever.
You must be so proud of keeping the heritage while building your home. It's going to be stunning
I've an idea to get daylight into the bathroom. Why not insert an oval/octagon stained glass window into the wall? 😉
What a beautiful idea!!! I suggested frosted glass above eight feet or so ...instead of bringing the brick all the way to the ceiling ...stop at eight or nine feet or so and then glass it in above that ...but a huge circle or oval of stained glass would be GORGEOUS ....maybe with a MOUNTAIN/ ALPS THEME!!! ///that could be seen from the inside as well as the outside of the bathroom giving it a less closed-in feeling!!!

Actually, it isn't a piece of cake to renovate a stone cabin on a steep cliff. You guys are heroes and deserve my applause👏👏👏👏for your determination and commitment. Keep at it, never give up🙌
An Italian architect here, to avoid the drum effect use the double sheet of plasterboard, the bathroom has no windows so you have to choose whether to cover the plasterboard with waterproof mortar such as Mapelastic or use sheets of Aquapanel instead of plasterboard (obviously I mention very available materials Here in Italy)
We will be using an ultra durable panel, not standard drywall.
@@RaisingVoyagers I was about to suggest Aquapanel but then I'm not a fan of the stuff. It looks too sterile for my taste. However, it might be the right move because of the location of the bathroom. At least consider a textured PVC paneling.
Yes, I'm a building and interior designer in Australia, and I use Aquachek in my bathroom and laundry projects. It is a special waterproof plasterboard, and it can be waterproofed with membrane, and tiled over.
@@daisy9910 we plan to use knauf diamont
@@RaisingVoyagers that sounds very similar to Aquachek. Great choice!
Imho you should put a window above the bathroom door to let it some light
I have always found that projects take longer, are physically harder, and cost more than I thought. AND turn out better. That's for just relatively small ( compared to this job!) projects. It's amazing to see you bring vision to life, in solid stone.
THANK you for sharing this!
Strawberries are perennial! Don't take them out! I've been growing the same plants for years and eating their strawberries without doing anything more than adding some fertilizer... The plants tend to crawl and expand even farther than where they were originally planted.
Yeah, dont pull them out ...they have runners that make new plants just cut the runner once the plant is established
Strawberries are called strawberries because they winter over covered in straw. They are perennials and grow and spread year after year. You don’t have to replant them every year. Place straw between the rows and around the plant! You will have them for years to come
The primary use of the straw was to lift the strawberries up out of the soil to keep them clean as they were growing . Strawberries were called strawberries long ago in England where because of the warmer climate straw was not required as a top dressing to over winter the plants.
Make to get a good local strawberry so it will thrive…hybrids don’t reproduce 😊
@@johnfranks9271our strawberries always come back every year. We never used straw. I never even thought about that.
They even create lots of runners, so there will always be plenty of little plants.
Fabulous progress this week again! Can’t wait for your posts each week.
No one is going to die.
As lover of terrace and those stairs please show them in every video.
Just a second of looking at that terrace and views is enough to make me happy
Its like a tradition for me to watch your video on sunday and one thing I particularly loved was your wholesome bonding with your family especially your wife and Chloe has a fairy like energy .
Love and peace upon you
My daughter used to sing and talk to the fairies when she was working or playing in the garden ...sweet memories. She also made her own staff/walking stick that doubled as a magic wand. She grew up on Narnia, The Lion The Witch & The Wardrobe, etc. as well as Tolkien (later) and went to a Waldorf School where things like that are 'normal'.
I think the reason they made the window and door headers angled at the top ends is so in case the building ever catches fire and the wood burns it will fall out without taking the wall down. If the ends were square then think what would happen if the middle Was burned out and the two ends fell down to the floor. In Michigan in 1985, I remodeled a building that was built by Ford and Edison 113 years earlier and the 2“ x 12“ oak floor Joice’s were angle cut, and then laid in to the brick walls that way, and that’s what the old bricklayers told me. So maybe it applies on your house too.
The Old English word for strawberry is streawberige, and in that language 'strew' and 'straw' were both used to mean 'to spread or scatter'. So, the name likely meant a berry that spreads, which perfectly describes its growth habit. Strawberries spread by horizontal stems called stolons
You can take rocks and paint them like strawberries, so the birds try to peck on the rocks and eventually they will realize they can't eat them and by the time you have real strawberries they won't know the difference🍓🍓🍓
This really works. I always keep fake strawberries in my patch. A good project for the kids.
Skylight and transom would dramatically improve the light in the bathroom!
Talking about culture differences, in Italy (but I'm sure also in the States) you'll find different professionals who work in different ways. Something I CAN tell you about drywall (cartongesso) is that an Italian professional here in the province of Parma once taught me that it should never touch the floor but should be raised a little (you can use a little piece of drywall which you will remove once screwed in) to avoid humidity or even water spills. That area will be covered by the skirting boards anyway.
Hope this too helps. Ciao!
When you pull thg weeds, shake off the dirt back into the garden before you throw them away. You might need all that dirt to hold back the erosion!
Italians have been building things for thousands of years. I would listen to the construction workers when they give advice. Your home looks beautiful. Great job! Stay safe. God bless.
Thank you for sharing your girls’ delight as they help make a garden. It’s a pleasure to see Chloe learn and grow. I love the way y’all teach your children. Blessings to all ❤
Such good memories to be capturing 😊
The Rain won't stop me, The Rain won't stop me......Oh No!🥰. Priceless.
I can already see that Chloe will have her own GARDENING channel someday!!! :)
A full-size gardening fork would have made a much faster job of digging over that garden. Teach Chloe to knock the soil off the clumps of weed against the fork prongs before tossing the weeds. Strawberries like to be well fed. If you heat your used eggshells for 10 mins at about 150 degrees C, then crush them well and sprinkle around your strawberries, they will discourage the snails and help the worms. You can soak the weeds in water until they rot to make a weed-tea to use as fertilizer. Use the previous year's strawberry runners as your new plants.
To add to all the other comments about strawberries which are all correct.
the straw also gets the fruit away from the soil cutting down on fungal spores splashing onto the fruit when it rains, also it acts as insulation from the sun which does cook the strawberry's roots & help prevent moisture loss .

the interior is looking incredible! you have have put in SO much work you should be proud
It's truly beautiful. Progress is swiftly happening. You all should be so proud of yourselves❤❤❤
I watched this video twice because I love it! The shot where you show Chloe and Heather working in the garden with the stone house behind them and a view of the scenery in the distance just shows how much you all belong to this home. All your hard work is paying off, It's already beautiful. missed Alexa.
Aww thanks so much!!
The attachment for the props is called a strong boy, it slides into the stonework and supports the weight above allowing you to remove the stone below it then you build the stonework up putting the lintel in, I've just done it on a 600 old olive mill in Greece
A labour of love to be justly proud of, and it could be a home for 1000 years!!!
A skylight in the bathroom perhaps? Great work! Looks awesome! 🤩👍
Your charming little Italian castle is looking gorgeous! I can imagine wall-mounted lanterns (black or copper) in the hallway and in that beautiful bathroom-lit and casting a warm glow in the evenings. Oh, and now I’m imagining gas lanterns mounted on each side of your main exterior door to welcome visitors. The entire house, interior and exterior, will be stunning when you hang live Christmas garland for the holidays. So excited for you!
Are your sweet daughters learning to speak Italian pretty well? They’ll be fluent in no time. Children learn foreign languages so quickly.
Be safe and happy this coming week!
A skylight in the bathroom would be sick! I had one in my master bath and absolutely loved it.
Maybe a window in the bathroom on the hallway wall wouldn't be such a bad idea & would let a LOT of light in from the outside window ....it would also feel less closed-in inside the bathroom! ;)
I just LOVE what he did with the cement at the top of the rooms! Just amazing! I can't believe spraying those sparks on your clothes doesn't set them on fire! Or at least leave them with burn holes!
Idea- add some clerestory windows to bathroom at hall. To let some light in naturally. Looking good…you are such a hard worker! Dream coming together.
I can’t believe how young the girls looked just two years ago. Your Family is beautiful along with your Stone home. 🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
Crazy how fast time flies!
Huge Learning Curve working with European Tradesmen! Language not to mention building codes!
That upper hallway! Everyone should be as pleased as I am with how fabulous it is. Those two windows under the vaulted ceiling look stunning. If one window is "imperfectly "
lower, call it Wabi Sabi.
The house becomes a home
SO GRACEFULLY AND ORGANICALLY.
I can see how much you two are enjoying this.
Happy home 🏡 💓 💛 💖
So very proud of all of you. Prayers for your safety always. A house built on love and dedication.
I’ve gotten to where I get excited for each Sunday knowing I get to enjoy your video! I don’t suppose you could show us an over all plan of the house? I have a hard time imagining the layout even though you’ve let us know so many times 🤷♀️
The 'Energizer Bunnies' have got nothing on you guys!! Dont know where you get the energy but glad you do, so we can enjoy this massive progress you keep making. Thanjs for sharing.
Think about the impact you are having on the contractors as well. Your perspective and creative ideas teach them something and visa versa. Great job!
Please be careful opening up that door. I will be praying for your safety and your team's safety. The house is looking wonderful! God bless you all!
Outstanding progress on your mountain home!!! 🥰🎶🐐🎶🌻🌻🌻🌻🏡🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
See you all next week! Cheers!
It is really remarkable how much you and the crew have accomplished together, Brady! This is going to be so fantastic! Congratulations!
You can take rocks and paint them like strawberries, so the birds try to peck on the rocks and eventually they will realize they can't eat them and by the time you have real strawberries they won't know the difference🍓🍓🍓.
Awesome idea!!!
@@RaisingVoyagersA great little project for the girls!
What a super clever idea! I may try to get my nieces to do that for a Saturday afternoon project!
Lifelong gardener here- this worked in my garden!
You guys!!!!! This house is getting Sooo, sooo B E A U T I F U L!!! 😍😍😍 I am very excited for you!’
And you guys… this TEAM of all of you are getting so much progress!!! Wonderful!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Skylights in the hall and areas would really bring light in
Thank you my friends ❤
I love watching it come together each week. You guys are renovating a farm barn and turning into a masterpiece and most beautiful home.
after you plant the strawberry plants, if you put straw between the plants and rows, it helps keep soil most when it gets hot, and keeps most of the weeds from growing.
I’m wishing my life away. I cannot wait for next week. I have to wait a whole seven days it’s crucifying me. I just love what you’re creating for your family. Take care lots of hugs from Cathy in Cheshire UK ….
The guys working on your house are true Masters. I hope they are training younger people to do this craft or it will die out. That would will be a lost art. They are amazing🦩
Wow, your building is beginning to look like a home which should win an architectural prize. 😄🎉
Our family LOVES THE HOME
Your videos have so much to offer. Even though there is so much happening, I feel relaxed and happy watching your videos. I always love how you angle the camera to show us your unbelievable countryside when you garden, look out the window, making coffee, on the terrace.... Hope you decide on a couple of skylights in the bathroom. Thanks again and again for before and after because it shows so much and is very satisfying.
🙏🏻🍓🍓🍓🍓❤️ Happy and excited for you all!🎉
I enjoy so much of this work but it always is a joy to see good ole' family life and values .. keep the highest of all values.
Thank goodness for Raising Volunteers.....had horrible day. Almost cried when I went to bed , turned on you tube & there you were!!!❤
Observation..laughter & love can make anything possible ...how sweet. Heather is ALWAYS smiling & laughing. Both of you are excellent parents. Prayers for richest blessing from God😊
So glad we can be an encouragement! Hope tomorrow is a better day for you! ❤️
@@RaisingVoyagers thank you so much for responding ❤️
@@RaisingVoyagers just noticed "volunteers" in script. Lol. Of course I meant "voyagers " BTW so appropriate 😊
Nite😴
So exciting to see the drywall going up! The hills look so green and lush after all these the rain you have been having. Strawberries are the best to plant. They seem to grow in almost any environment and that bed’s soil looks so good. Love seeing your beautiful daughter learning to garden too. Looking forward to seeing next week’s show. Hopefully all goes well!🙏🏻🍓🌸
That beautiful view of your house is worth more than your own house. I congratulate you, very beautiful house. The boy is a great father, works and a great husband.
It continues to become more beautiful...the stone, the chestnut lintels, the house is moving forward so so beautiful.
Thank you for my Sunday afternoon fix. Absolutely beautiful ❤❤❤
Just FABULOUS! ❤😊
Amazing transformation I could not imagine this place looking like a house you could live in ,but it is going to be so beautiful with a fantastic view
The amount of work that is progressing is impressive. It is coming together fast. I am so happy for you all. Chloe, you did an awesome job planting the strawberries with mom.❤
I never thought that I would keep looking at your videos because I know nothing about building or preparing a house, but I know about family and raising our kids. Thank you for being so friendly and honest. Keep on keeping on! 🤗
Planting with Cloe touched my heart, she loves your attention and patience , your making a future farmer 🌹💖so happy with your progress good job! And what a beautiful view, simply stunning 💖💖💖💖From seattle
Thank you so much!
Bradey everyone MUST wear hard hats!!!!
A hand pick, hand tiller, is great for weeding. Very quick and also great for digging holes for planting
My friend,,,,,,,, every Sunday i am waiting for your video and watch you. Together with my wife. May God be with you and bless you and your family. My good friend, you are THE BEST!!!!!
Love from Greece.
You can be so proud of yourself, what a labour of love and it’s go8ng to be stunningly beautiful
You have found some Great guys working for you. Pros. 🤗🤗
The house gets more beautiful with each episode. The views are breathtaking, the stone work is truly art and the beams over the windows are stunning! ❤
Your home is an absolute masterpiece. It's so inspiring watching it become the dream you've envisaged. The workmanship of the building crew is incredible.
Your home is becoming more beautiful each day. What a blessing to be able to see your family adapting and building your new lives and home at the same time. May you have many happy years ahead to love and enjoy! ❤
Best to put acidic soil to plant the strawberries as they love it and mulch around the plants. Happy gardening
I would be tempted to leave the low door way. It gives the house more character. You won’t be using it a lot and you’ll be surprised how natural it becomes to duck. A lot of old homes in Great Britain have low doorways and you just duck without thinking.. no matter, it will be beautiful
My favorite Sunday pastime is watching your videos. Been following you since the beginning. What a journey. Cheers from Reykjavik, Iceland.
Greetings from France...such courage..your doing beautifully.🎉❤)!
You are the perfect example of how people should deal with the management of difficult challenges in life. My admiration. Thank you.👍🏽
You guys are such hard workers!! I know your house will be so beautiful and inviting in the end. I’m giving you a well deserved pat on the back. Thanks for the video.
I'm loving the window seat idea! Need a large comfy cushion to sit on!
The progress is going on very well! Its becoming a home now in every step u make❤❤
It will be a lovely window seat.
Absolutely amazing the work you all are doing. Lord, I’m asking your protection on all who enters this home.
I’m impressed by your daughter’s ability to stay on task and her planting skills. She’s obviously watched her mother carefully and been taught well. Maybe time to buy your daughters their own gardening forks and spades? Maybe Gardening Company out there would like to do that. A little spade for little hands would be invaluable. I’m a small woman and use er, small tools all the time! You can get some quite good ones. 😊😊😊
By the way, don’t worry about the noise of men working, I could listen to it ALL day if it was on my house. If I was your neighbour you would be getting daily batches of muffins. Goodness, do Italians eat muffins? 😂❤
And imperfections make it perfect❤
Aww thank you so much for sharing this beautiful journey with us I can’t wait to see how everything turns out after it’s done
I was just thinking to myself, oh please, what a perfect spot for a cosey reading nook, and 30sec later, wish and it shall be granted. Thanx Heather. It'll be beautiful. 📖 xx
You have beautiful wooden beamed ceilings and lintels. You're right the barn has become a home, and the deck outside your bedroom does have a gorgeous view. Look forward to seeing the completed home construction.
So exciting to see how close you’re getting! Where is the plumbing for the bathroom?
Was the "the rain won't stop me" just a year ago?? Kids sure grow fast!!!! Love your journey!! If I was a bit younger.....
It's a window seat!
It is wonderful to see the progress that you are making on your future home, which will be beautiful. I hope that you have worked out the visa issues so that you can remain in Italy to enjoy it. Any news on your appeal? We are all wondering.
beautiful works happening with the house, the hand mades makes it all the more special
be careful not to bury your strawberry crowns, that'll kill them quicker than not watering them, hope you get a bumper crop!
loving the videos
thanx for sharing
So excited for you seeing all the hard work you’ve done to get ready for all these interior steps. As the house becomes your home with a speed you won’t be ready for now! Love the videos, stay dry, and good luck to the strawberry patch! ❤
It is coming together very nicely. Can’t wait to see the final product. You will so enjoy your house that you all were involved in making it with such a beautiful view.
Looking amazing guys
Loved the way that statements of death regarding the next project, were very quickly dealt with 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Brilliant progress … 👍👍👍 Durban SA🇿🇦
So much major change to the house. It should be very beautiful when finished. Looks like it's going to be a while before done.
