    If you weld the nut do not weld to the shaft only to the sprocket 🙏💪👍

    Could you please answer this one question for me. My engine was pulled from a 2004 bmw x3 3.0i , which means the engine has ms45.1 . . . When performing my swap, would i send this same ECU out to get tuned, or would i need to use the ECU from a post-facelift e46? I would like to keep ms45.1 because i believe it will be more cost effective for me.

    General tip for anyone interested: when you start an engine that wasn't used in a long time, it might be safest to crank it for a while before it runs. Disconnecting the fuel pump relay is one way to crank without the engine firing. This will circulate and spread the oil _before_ the lubrication is needed. Things like piston rings, valve rubbers and the vanos stuff really want to be properly oiled.
    Whether the engine was drained of oil or not, spending months or years unused will inevitably cause head components to lose lubrication.

    • @stitch2k1
      @stitch2k1 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would agree except with many engines with a dry and un-primed oiling system, the starter spinning the motor can’t generate enough RPM for the oil pump to prime the engine. Just start it, and monitor oil pressure for the first 5-10 seconds. If no oil pressure by 10 seconds shut it off.

    M54 are lighter than the M52 is this the reason why you choose this engine? The M52 is more durable for high hp application like turbo but I personally like the M54 better for a NA application because of weight savings and your not putting a lot of stress on it like if you were to turbo it.

    • @Zakis_wonderful_world
      @Zakis_wonderful_world  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reason is really simple. This engine popped up for a fair price and I decided to get it. I knew some people who ran it and they had good things to say about it.
      I'll probably never turbo it, cause if I ever need more power, I'll probably go for a v8.

      @@Zakis_wonderful_world and about the furl pump line, does it meed to go through a relay? like first it exits the x60004 port the goes into a relay and after that gets to the x20 ?

    • @Zakis_wonderful_world
      @Zakis_wonderful_world  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Alecsx1 for my swap it did need to. The purpose of the relay is just to switch the negative (ground) signal that comes from the ECU to the positive signal that the fuel pump relay needs. I dunno how it is on the m52tu though.

    • @Zakis_wonderful_world
      @Zakis_wonderful_world  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      heyo! I had a similar comment once asking me about the wiring. I'm just gonna copy paste that here, I hope you don't mind. I never found a full wiring diagram but I found some pinouts and a similar build thread which was helpful, the links of those are listed below.
      If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.
      Ok, let's start with the wiring.
      You're gonna need to get your ecu flashed so that they delete the EWS, limp mode and a bunch of other stuff preventing you to start the engine. I got mine here: skid-shop.com/products/bmw-ecu-remap .
      Then you're gonna need a M54 wiring harness out of an e39 (preferably manual but an auto harness works as well), because it's long enough to allow you to store your ECU in the ECU compartment. Also check the temperature sensor that is at the back of the head under the intake manifold. You need one that has 4 pins, if your's has only 2, you need to get that sensor out of an e39 (maybe some other models also have the 4 pin sensor).
      Then you're going to need the x20 connector (big round connector on the right side of the engine bay) cut from any e36 wiring harness.
      You're also going to need the electric throttle pedal and wiring out of an m54 car. The wiring from the pedal plugs directly into the ECU (x60004) plus it has 3 additional wires: fuel pump relay, secondary air pump (you don't need that one) and engine RPM signal for the dashboard.
      Here you're going to need to start cutting. You're gonna have to route some cables from the x1011 (it has things like the oil pressure light for the dashboard, starter, alternator light, reverse light sensor, engine coolant temp (2 cables),...) and from the above mentioned x60004 into the X20 on the chassis. Here are some links that I used to help me: www.r3vlimited.com/board/forum/e30-technical-forums/24v-engine-swaps/m54-s54/351110-e30-m54-swap-guide
      www.ms4x.net/index.php?title=Siemens_MS43_Pinout
      www.r3vlimited.com/board/filedata/fetch?id=7190095 .
      IMPORTANT! Like mentioned in the video all cables just need to be connected, the exception is the fuel pump cable, where you need to put a relay before it because you need a positive signal on the x20 fuel pump cable, but the ecu on the x60004 puts out a ground signal to activate the pump. Also don't forget to connect the pin 26 on the x60004 to a switched positive signal or the car won't start.

      Sorry I didn't show plugging in the throttle pedal, it's really simple though. It has a special connector that plugs directly into the ECU and it also has 3 cables that need to be connected to the x20 connector on the e36 chassis. If I remember correctly the only one that you really have to connect is the black one which sends the engine RPM to the tacho.

Then you just connect the e36 feed and return line into the filter as well as the line that goes from the filter into the fuel rail and the vacuum line and I think it should start, if you have all other necessary components like the MAF and other stuff...
      That's the essentials to get it running, but you're still going to need to hook up cooling, powersteering and other stuff. If I was unclear feel free to ask more questions.

      The pin for the fuel relay on the ECU is on the X60004 pin 10. The electrical gas pedals pins are on the X60004 7,8,9 and 12,13,14. If you're sourcing an electric gas pedal seprately, make sure you get the wiring with it, cause the wiring for the gas pedal plugs directly into X60004 on the ECU. This all applies if you have the ms43 ECU, if you have an ms42, things might be different.

      sorry for the late response...
      So the driveshaft, the rear end is the original 320i, the front was also the original 320i but it was cut up, shortened and the front part was cut off and replaced by front part off of a 320d e46.
      I paid 30€ for the e46 driveshaft and 50€ for the machining and welding. However I should also say that it'd be better if I shortened the rear end as well, because to make it fit I had to relocate the middle bearing.
      That being said if you want a bolt in solution you're gonna need a driveshaft out of an 325tds or 328i, but they're a lot harder to find nowadays...
      Not sure what you mean by engine arms, if you know any other name let me know and I'll tell you all I know.
      For fuel I got the line that goes from the fuel rail into the filter and then I just hooked up the filter to the original e36 fuel lines and that's it. The fuel pump and everything else is still stock 320i.

    Would it be easier to swap the internals or do the swap ?

    • @Zakis_wonderful_world
      @Zakis_wonderful_world  ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't know if it is possible. I went from an m50 engine to an m54 engine, and I don't know if the engines are similar enough to just swap the internals over.

      I would go with complete engine swap(requires less attention to detail) imo..for internals..some interchangeable parts but I would recommend you do your research to confirm

    is it possible to message you due to the ECU Holder? I have the same engine and I thought bout that and you just made it! also I had thought about the pedal angle that isn't quite the same and with a new 3D piece would be a lot easy.
    so nice seeing that "my ideas" are not just mine ahaha.
