I was married to a gambling addict in the USA. Finally had to take my kids and leave before we were out living in the street. She didn't care about her husband, her home, her kids, or anything at all except gambling. There is no end to the misery living with a person like that. They will destroy you and everyone close to her. Getting out of it and divorcing her was the best thing I could have done. I feel for you mate. Good luck. (I'd buy her a one way ticket back to Bangkok)

A white knight story. Those are always so wholesome. Girls in the bars are basically uneducated peasants with aspirations. Various addictions are common among that cohort. The same applies to their male relatives. Things like this will never occur if guys learn to stick to ST only. If you so badly want a companion that loves you , but that you can completely trust, get a dog. For everything else, there are Gogos and maid services.

Generally speaking, meeting a thai girl for a serious relationship in pattaya or patong is usually a very bad idea. The heavily tourist areas breed hustlers.

Hey Dan, thanks to Karim for sharing, I feel for the brother. My wife is Thai and we live in the uk but I e been very lucky as she’s not In to gambling, however her aunt is a prolific gambler and has used my wife’s name as a guarantor to secure loans for her gambling, funny thing was, my wife wasn’t even in Thailand so obviously when she found out she went ballistic. We live next door to the police chief of our area in Thailand so the loan sharks couldn’t do anything, anyways mate I wish Karim all the best and once again thanks for sharing and keep up the good work 👍🏼

Had a good friend in London who was a very successful market trader. Made £2,000 a week, every week, big money in the 80's and 90's. He lost a 4 bedroom semi house in willesden, and a 3 bed flat near Wembley. This is in addition to circa a mil or 2, he had some good wins and chucked it back. Really liked him, but the moods swings he had were unbelievable, always thought he would top himself during a bad time. Thank god he had a great girlfriend. Gambling sucks the life out of the families

Gambling. Worse than drug addiction! Married in Bangkok in 85. My wife did not drink nor smoke and was a damned decent girl, a good mother to our kids. I took her back to Aust and we resided in the state of Victoria. A state that had sworn for many years never to introduce gambling. With all the excuses used we see today, The state next door had legalized gambling, NSW. And there were the usual whinges about all the money leaving the Victorian state. We went into the Thai Restaurant business and we did well. Too well. Then the Labor Government sent the state well and truly broke and introduced Legalised Gambling to pull them out of the shit. Then things went downhill. She became addicted to gambling, mostly by Poker Machines which grew everywhere! In every pub and club in the joint. Like a mug I was asked to rejoin the navy, and on advice from my wife, I did, And went intrerstate. Leaving my wife to it. Cutting a long story short I returned and found out all about what was going on. It was futile. Nothing I could do. So I left and went to live with my mother in law in Bangkok. She finished up losing everything. Like many Thais where I come from did. The money, the house, the business, the bloody lot! Skint! She finished up returning to Thailand too, She knows what she did and is very sorry for that. We are good friends, although not partners now, we are as good friends now as we once were. It was a powerful addiction. Which many Thais where I came (Victoria) from bore the same fate. The past is the past and that is the way it is. As I said Gambling is far worse than any other addiction. She is over it all today and thank God for that.
My God Russell. This is so close to my life story, right down to the restaurant and poker machines in Victoria. (Effing Joan Kirner 1991). We got married in 1992 in Melbourne. Non-drinker, non-smoker, well educated, good mother. Unbelieveable. Ran a successful restaurant for almost 20 years and got absolutely nothing to show for it but debts. A cash business and a gambling addiction are poison together. Yep, worse than drugs.

Too many! Especially in those early days, even grandmothers were being sent to jail for various money offences due to gambling! Never knew any hard drug cases but I knew many addicted female gamblers and their poor husbands! Gambling is huge in Australia. Not my go, I worked too hard for my money.
That's a sad story. Seems the loss of his mum made Karim quite vulnerable at the start so he kind of fell for the first seemingly nice lady he met..then when the red flags appeared he was already emotionally invested. Hope it all works out for you karim.

I don't know what it is about the Thai ladies which makes them so partial to gambling!!! I know 2 Thai massage parlour managers here in Manchester who are addicted to gambling!!! They've been in the business for around 15 years and they've not got a pot to piss in!!!! Every single penny has been spent at the casino!!!! SMDFH!!!!

Gambling is s terrible vice. many Thai girls do it. No good being a nice person in Thailand some girls try to take advantage of you .Sad story especially when children involved.
I make almost USD$200k/year and my 2 y/o son lives in the US. I send him $600/month. Whenever his mom (who also works) asks for more, I tell her to keep a log of everything she actually spends ON HIM and she shuts up. Here’s this fool sending a random woman, who has a gambling problem and lives in a developing country, USD$3-4k/month. Unbelievable.

It is depressing to see men who disrespect themselves. It is harmful to other men, and to society in general when certain guys finance poor behavior. Letting people go off on you, through temper tantrums, and generally not appreciate your efforts is BS! How can a guy pay a gambler money and then is surprised she is a compromised human being? Where were his real male friends to go upside his immature head? Man up or stay away from women.
Time and time again bad stories I wish some one would do a thread on all success stories. I know their out there.
The problem is that we are limiting our interaction to ladies in tourist areas.
These ladies are quite different from an average Thai lady.
Unfortunately, on top of knowing English (or at least being interested in the interaction with farangs) they have bad traits like gambling and substance addictions, the sex work background (a lot of women in tourist areas are doing part time sex work), and unrealistic expectations (one Issan girl gets a free house from a Western simp and all her village friends flock to Pattaya to hit the same jackpot).
I think there are many decent women in Thailand but
1. They do not speak English. So, we need to learn Thai to talk to them.
2. They are not into dating random strangers. So, we need to get introduced by common friends and, therefore, it takes time to get involved in the local circles enough to get introduced to decent women.
I think it is perfectly normal.
If you want to date a decent woman, you need to be something better than another butterfly.
