    1968 Chevrolet Camaro LS3 Restomod Interior Upgrades and Driving Video V8 Speed & Resto Shop V8TV
    This great looking 1968 Chevrolet Camaro LS3 Restomod came to the V8 Speed and Resto Shop to fix some tuning issues and to have a new custom interior installed. The plan was to modernize the door panels with some Fesler pieces, and custom design and build a center console to house the Vintage Air A/C controls, the power window switches, a pair of stainless cup holders, a double-din audio system, USB power, and the Tremec T56 6-speed shifter.
    The V8 Speed and Resto Shop interior department completely designed, built, upholstered, and wired the custom console before installing it in the Camaro. The Fesler door and rear side panels were upholstered in matching black vinyl with a corresponding hounds-tooth insert to match the Camaro’s seats.
    Before the car was complete, our team identified that the roof skin was rusty and improperly installed, so the V8 Speed and Resto Shop Fabrication Department went to work removing the old skin, repairing the rust, and installing a new piece. The V8 Speed and Resto Shop Body Shop finished the job and painted the new roof with a black industrial coating, then the Interior Shop installed a new vinyl top.
    The LS3 1968 Camaro makes great power, and is a real blast to drive. It's got some great parts on board, with Wilwood brakes, Bonspeed wheels, and a Chevrolet LS3. We’re excited to see this 1968 Chevrolet Camaro rolling down the road, and the owner is looking forward to making more memories on road trips with his restomod Camaro.

    What a sharp Camaro. Man you guys do awesome work. I appreciate that this one doesn’t have a cowl hood. I feel like those are over done sometimes. I was surprised to learn that most of the first gen Z’s did not have that option. A lot added them later though.

    It's still a '68 Camaro so full marks for not going overboard. Current owners can grab a lot of ideas from this project. One sweet car.

    Beautiful guys wow!. Love the console work, well done. The only thing I do not like is the modern RS SS badging and the placement of them. Just me maybe? Stunning car and love the 4th gen buckets with hounds tooth upholstery.

    Great vid. Nice car. But……why was it limping……inquiring minds need to know!!

      Great question... there turned out to be a few loose grounds in the harness. One on the crank position sensor that was throwing codes. Easy fix, tricky to find.

    What a wonderful, sweet, sweet ride! I love restomods and pro tourers if they are done tastefully. I also have a few questions about this project: what was done to prevent the repaired roof from rusting under the vinyl again id est, can it happen again if the vehicle is exposed to humidity? When you do a full project for a customer, does the customer get a list of materials and all the electrical schematics and specifications which would be needed by the customer to maintain and / or troubleshoot the vehicle down the road, without having to second-guess or reverse engineer how things were done and what has been done?

    • @V8TV
      @V8TV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions. Regarding the roof, once we removed the original skin, we removed all the rust from the inner structure using both physical (sanding / grinding) and chemical rust removal. The bare steel was cleaned, and sprayed with an epoxy primer. Once the new skin was welded in place, all the remaining bare steel was also treated to an epoxy coat, body-worked, and primed for topcoat. The topcoat was sprayed inside and out. Here's another point... it took 50 + years to corrode as it did, and most likely, the first couple decades of this car's life were parked on the street as a "regular car". Today, the car lives in a garaged environment and not used daily in bad weather, so the top material is far less likely to see that much moisture for very long... maybe just for washings? To your second point, we provide the customer with all the manuals and tech docs and notes from the build. We do draw schematics where needed. We try to make them serviceable for sure. Thanks for asking!
