    As an Arsenal fan I look at their era of underachieving and it’s lasted longer than Arsenal’s! From the outside looking in, I just couldn’t say what their problem is. But there IS a problem and they’re still in the phase of putting problems right. You don’t then just starting winnning big trophies. It’s all happening against a background of a Man City team so strong only Liverpool cracked them the once (in an odd year) and in the process broke themselves (again). When you’re through the phase of putting problems right, only then can you start to envisage the sort of improvement that’s currently required to win the League. Emery didn’t do a bad job at Arsenal but I felt he was getting a song out of a team that would never win a title, and he didn’t understand Arsenal’s manic need to climb that mountain now and then. Arteta’s early wobbles were those of a man who knew just how high the climb would have to be. He’s put the problems at Arsenal right, now all they’ve got to do is get better. I know this sounds vague and non-footballing but Man U always sound like a an operation that thinks putting problems right is the easy bit and getting better is hard but it’s the other way round. They always overrate the players they got, always think the era of getting better is just around the corner, but 3 wins means they think it’s the League title soon, 3 losses and they’re slitting throats and sacking the manager. But that pattern is now a Freudian repetition compulsion, the unconscious desire to repeat the very patterns that have left you where you find yourself today. Until Man U crack that repetition compulsion this pattern could run and run.

    Maybe I'm clinging to the idea that ETH is the right man too much, but I feel like the issues on display today are the same issues that Mourinho, Ole and Rangnick all saw...
    I dont understand what the issue is, but I dont feel confident enough to say that the blame should fall at the managers feet anymore. In my opinion, far more senior players should have been forced out over the summer so that the heirarchy can begin to address the systemic cultural issues in the squad and the wider club

      I'm thinking the same, so you're not alone there.

    • @NvFranco
      @NvFranco 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think both things you're saying can be true. Clearing deadwood is fine but deadwood players barely play anyways and when they leave the problems still remain, they need to clear the players that have been part of the big picture issues consistently, manager-to-manager; Rashford, Shaw, Lindelof, Maguire, maybe even Bruno at this point. But I also think the manager is still a big problem and way out of his depth. I really wish we had a cold-blooded ruthless with the players type of manager. I think of all the managers since SAF, Jose was the only one of those but he wasn't fully backed by the Glazers going into his final season which lead to the downfall of his time. People may hate the idea of a manager such as Tuchel, but that type of personality, while not a long term solution, is what I think is needed at this moment in time. It's the right type of ruthlessness needed for revitilizing a squad as long as they'd be backed.

    • @dominichoad
      @dominichoad 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@NvFranco I'm not sure how you can accurately assess a manager while admitting that a large number of the squad are not up to scratch - and banking on sacking Ten Hag actually changing anything while the other problems are all still there doesn't seem very sensible to me, it feels more like it'll just entrench the culture of players failing and not getting any consequences because the manager is always blamed

    • @NvFranco
      @NvFranco 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@dominichoad Pretty simple that he's had 5 transfer windows, over two years, over £600-million spent. The squad that played yesterday 10/16 of them were his signings. And I'm not shifting blame just on the manager, I do blame both but you can't sack a whole squad, especially outside of a window. You can still sack a manager to try and salvage and damage control the season. And you can give the players consequences if you hire a ruthless manager as I've said. Just for example, say Tuchel comes in, drops Rashford and Bruno, that is ruthless, those are consequences for poor form. If you sack the manager then hire a manager that 'fits the players' then you're not fixing the issues. This is what INEOS is responsible for, buy players that fit the system INEOS wants, hire managers that fit that philosophy. The problem under the Glazers was we'd hire a rigid possession based manager, then a defensively focused manager, then a counter attacking manager, then a gegenpressing manager, then a transitional manager. Then you'd have to chop and change players every window that fit vastly different system.
      Look at the absolute top clubs, Bayern, Barcelona, Real Madrid. All these clubs change managers every 2/3 season, but all have consistent styles of play/philosophies and they still win. Barcelona let Xavi walk, Real let Carlo walk, Bayern let Flick go. HUgely talented and successful managers but there are standards. These clubs with set philosophies don't drop off cliffs when they change managers, the overall club philosophy is what makes you consistent, not holding onto managers/players. You're not going to replicate SAF/Pep/Klopp longevity, these are once in a generation type of managerial stints at peak level.

    Mainoo is being left isolated to do the job of two midfielders because Bruno buggers off up the pitch, whenever there is a turnover, he is nowhere. Mainoo should not be left to do the job of everyone in midfield by himself. His style is not meant to be playing as a CDM or even a box to box 8, He needs a team that controls possession because his quality on the ball is brilliant. Ten Haag can't implement any style let alone a possession based one.

    People say Klopp and Arteta got 3-4 years to show progress... Reality is they took 3-4 years because clearance and changing of the squad took that much time with good and bad buying players. The first clearance for manchester united is this year after 2 full season of Ten hag. And we still have players in the squad who was playing under van gaal. Changes take time when done well, now imagine how much it take when done wrongly. Is ten hag at fault? Yes but not completely. He need to use the same tactics of the first season again with the players at his disposal but prefer to persist with a false kind of pressing. However i can understand he is looking on the long term, after the clearance of this year the most experience striker in the squad is Rashford (27). Garnacho still 19 and inconsistent, Amad first full season, Zirkzee need to adapt and Ramus too raw right now. Only the defence look good but dalot can't play on left against good team, that's not his position. Midfield we count too much on mainoo, eriksen and casemiro is too old now, Ugarte need to adapt, Mount injury prone and Fernandes is Fernandes. Don't forget Shaw the new Phil jones. Now tell me how to do a consistent playing team with that.

    I personally feel it’s not the managers fault. In fact, to be completely honest it’s the fault of the players. They do this every time. Always down tooling on the manager when they don’t like him anymore. We saw this with mourinho, Ole, rangnick and now with eth. The funniest part of all this is these players are still here and regardless of who the manager whenever they aren’t feeling the manager anymore they down tool. What happened to playing for the badge? For the fans? For the people who lost their lives playing for the club? It’s an identity issue and I personally feel these are not the right players mentality wise for this team. It’s really a shame what these players are doing can’t lie. I want my team back. Get rid of these frauds.

      A manager's job is to get the players on board. Mourinho didn't get the players he wanted and he rightly didn't like players that didn't apply themselves. Ten Haag got all the players he wanted and still nothing has changed. The only player he didn't get who he wanted was De Jong. All the other players he has brought in who he had at Ajax has looked awful, he would as well.
      If anything, the fact that he feels he needs to just buy all the players he had that earned him that initial reputation and they look crap is even worse. Ten Haag is telling you he doesn't believe in his ability to coach new different talent. If he had the ability to get all of that Ajax team he had and trade it, he would. It shows he has no real desire to progress his ideas or take the time and create new ones. He lives in a dream world like a one hit wonder. I beg Man U keep him because the best he can do this season is scrape a top half finish.
      City, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle, Villa, Spurs, Brighton are all better and they all have belief and understanding in their manager and tactics. So Man U are already 9th, There are midtable clubs in the Prem that will battle and have brilliant spells attaining points. Fulham, West Ham, Brentford, Bournemouth, Forest. Considering everyone though Palace were somehow dark horses for a European push, if they make a late surge. Man U couldn't even beat them. Ten Haag can't muster a style or tactic to battle a Premier League season, he got cup trophies through lucky player individual brilliance. 3 years he's had, what has changed? They look worse.

      I understand what you are saying, but I have a question. What next? They sack eth, get another manager and then what? That manager will have these players in his team still. Maybe they’ll put in a performance one or two times but when they fall out they’ll throw the manager under the boss. Honestly I really eth and he has he’s flaws but he can succeed when he can’t get rid of the player giving him issues in that dressing room. Let’s take pep for instance, when he got to Barcelona he got rid of big personalities like Ronaldinho, Eto etc who had the ability to split that dressing room in half regardless of the fact that they were one of his best players at the time and we know the rest of the story. What I’m saying in essence is if the coach can’t get the players he wants and exit the players he doesn’t he won’t have full control over the team further leading to poor performance on the pitch as we can see with man united.

    Any manager can't save United. They need a manager given the same power as Arteta was given at Arsenal. By that I mean allowed to dump Aubameyang, Özil an that other twat. They must also get rid of their medical staff.

    Mark Goldbridge has a large influence on fans online and his coverage of Rashford and Onana has been ridiculous, even yesterday when they were the 2 better players on the pitch. He's so obviously unreasonable with his scapegoating some of these players and glaringly uncritical of Erik Ten Hag that people have no choice but to assume he must be affiliated in some part with SEG, especially after that dudes claim about the Hojlund interview. I don't know if I'm convinced but Mark has influence within the fanbase and it would make sense for people to be, at the very least, angry at his obvious agendas.

    Really bad ending to the video when you start defending your mate Goldbridge. He gets criticism from all of his former United Stand colleagues because when they decided to leave to set up their own channels, Mark gets pissy about it and would make sly digs on his channel. Mark always starts these petty fights with all of his ex colleagues. He can't accept that people might rather set up their own youtube channels and make a bit of money for themselves rather than it all going into Mark's pocket. Mark sees it as "I gave you a chance on youtube so you work for me forever" - he sees them as ungrateful
