- In this episode, Ronnie flexes his new General Class Amateur Radio Operator’s license by attempting his first Parks on the Air (POTA) activation. This interesting ham radio program challenges operators to go out to designated parks and set up portable stations and attempt to make as many contacts as possible. Before he keys the mic for the first time, Chris guides Ronnie through a step-by-step set up for the QRP ham radio station, including hanging his first antenna in the wilderness. Of course lots of laughter accompanies this interesting process. We hope you enjoy: MY FIRST POTA ACTIVATION - Step by step Ham Radio Setup!
As always, all QRP antennas used by Chris (and now Ronnie) are supplied by N9SAB.
Check out his eBay store: www.ebay.com/s...
The QRP HF rig used in this episode is the combination of the Yaesu FT-818 transceiver along with the LDG Z817 tuner.

Congrats Ronnie on General and your first POTA activation. Chris you're a great Elmer through your step by step from station setup to being on the air.
Thanks Dugbo! Guess what Ronnie's next goal is? CW! Maybe if he gets serious about it, I will too
It is nice that your buddy was willing to hike out and help with your first activation.
@@mikeramsey9747 Ronnie has called me many things over the years but I was awful proud when he called me his Elmer … thanks for checking out the episode.

For someone who's is looking to do his first POTA in the coming weeks, this was very informative. I am not a natural at this, and it is reassuring to see we all start somewhere. Thank you and happy Holidays. -73
@@Liketheoutdoors Thanks so much for your feedback … comments like yours are a real encouragement to us as one of goals is to give back to the ham community … good luck on your upcoming activation and POTA on!

I’ve been hunting for awhile, I’m terrified of going out for my 1st activation after hearing some of the pileups…. Nice job!
Thanks … the pileups can be a challenge but also a ton of fun … just get out there and go for it!

Congratulations Ronnie, on your first Park to Park. You are doing better then me. You did an excellent job. Keep up the good work. Thank you for sharing. KO4UWU
Thanks Janice ... glad you enjoyed it ... we really appreciate your ongoing interest and support of our adventures.
Cool video! I would love to see a video detailing all of the radio gear in this video and how to use it. As someone who has no radio experience all of these terms sound like a foreign language!
Thanks ... we do have a video which is a little more in-depth than this one in terms of setup if you want to check it out - th-cam.com/video/vLLSc5aeQcY/w-d-xo.html
Congrats and nicely done Ronnie. By the way, watch that 3 legged chair...sometimes you will suddenly find yourself on your back...ask me how I know! 73, Tom from the low country, W4ID
@@w4id676 Thanks Tom … we will definitely be careful with our new chair … hopefully we will get a chance to hear that story someday!
@@twooldmeninthewoods Just remember to let go of the mic when it happens!
