Oh I know what you mean by borrower from the secret world of Arietty that studio ghibli movie if you haven't seen its please do its good along side howls moving castle, spirited away, my neighbor totoro, ponpoco, poñyo and much more
I’ve not seen The Borrowers movie you referenced but I have seen Studio Ghibli’s version The Secret World of Arietty so still grasping the concept and I LOVE it
I love that movie the secret world of Arietty it was one of my favorites alongside spirited away, howls moving castle, Ponpoco, poñyo, my neighbor totoro.
RACHEL!! I love this project so much, but PLEASE do not use the "patchwork fabric" in a project that requires you to cut it! That's called a crazy quilt top and they are historically significant primary sources. That one looks like it's in really great condition and it actually has names and dates which means it's even better!! Turn it into a wall hanging or a quilt, but please don't cut it up 😭😭😭
Honestly, Rachel gives me the same excitement/enjoyment JennaMarbles did when she was on TH-cam, and I am absolutely here for it. Though nobody could ever replicate Jenna, Rachel has that same "I'm gonna make videos about what I want and what I enjoy" kind of energy and there is honestly something so wonderful and genuine and refreshing about that. Like, I will never NOT be excited when I get the notification for a new video she's posted, regardless of what the content of the video actually is.
No, just no. Due to how TH-cam is and for respect of Rachel's channel I'll just nicely say. Don't compare Rachel to a no good, no talent, no name nobody lie jenna marbles. The only reason why she was so popular was due to her wearing skimpy clothes and cosplays and every dude around was drooling over her while getting their jollies off. So I said it before and say it again. Don't compare Rachel to someone like jenna marbles.
@@JoeXTheXJuggalo1 Not that she needed to for anyone but herself, but Jenna literally stopped all of that years ago, found a much better boyfriend, (now fiancé), switched her brand, expanded her talents, and gained many more followers. She also, unprompted, took down a lot of her earlier videos she thought may be hurtful or have harmful messaging. She was a big gamer, crafter, pet parent, plant person, etc. Her channel and Julien's have been for everyone. Also, Rachel replied to this and was appreciative. She likes Jenna too, and has mentioned it before. I also don't think she would appreciate a dude defending her by putting down another woman or content creator, but that is just my guess, as I can't speak for her.
@@DanielleVlog365 what you said is as dumb as a drug addict saying they're no longer addicted to drugs just because they went to rehab. Also it's not y fault that my simple words can offend you. With all the so called "changes" you say jenna did. All that did was make her go from trash to garbage in my book.
3:58 I’m pretty sure her apron is a care tag from a regular piece of clothing! (You can see the little iron symbol) which I never noticed before in my two and a half decades of familiarity with this masterpiece of a movie, and makes me love it that much more
My moral quandary is old linen tablecloths. I see one and think "this is such high-quality linen, it would be great for making shirt ruffles," but then I see that it has hand-done embroidery on it, and I feel too guilty to cut up someone else's needlework.
Could you make a whole shirt or skirt out of it, and make a feature of the embroidery around the neckline or hem? I think that would be really honoring the previous stitcher's work. Or, I mean, you could use it as a tablecloth if you don't want to cut it up.
I cannot bring myself to cut up a hand embroidered piece. I buy them, but I end up framing them and hanging them on the wall Especially the really old ones I did use one pillowcase to cover an antique lampshade, it looks great on that antique floor lamp, and I only had to open up holes that already existed so I didn't feel bad about it
Not the same but I once bought a beautiful silk dress in a charity shop for the fabric (to make into a headscarf) and it was only once i started taking it apart that I realised it had all been painstakingly sewn by hand, and here I was HEARTLESSLY chopping it up 😭 the guilt was awful but it was already too late so I made sure the recipient of the headscarf knew the backstory and hoped she'd love it all the more for it! (she did)
I and one of my friends were absolutely obsessed with borrowers after seeing Studio Ghibli's The Secret World of Ariety in theaters as kids, we bought those oversized novelty pencils and played in her treehouse and pretended that it was a treehouse in a bush and that we were borrowers and had the time of our lives
i feel like that would rip too easily. I would probably make a skirt and shirt combo. The shirt would be made out of dishtowels or fuzzy gloves and the skirt would be made out of old blankets and tablecloth. For acessory i would probably have a little backpack made out of a sock and some yarn to keep it closed.
The absolute chokehold this movie had on me as child was insanity. I remember wanting to go to thrift stores and buy giant sweaters and I would carry a messenger bag and hide in our attic. I drove my parents bonkers. The books and the movie…just perfection. It’s just a joy.
There’s also a tv show this older. It’s still on the channel Retro atavistic. Brilliant actors. CGI unfortunately of it’s time and slightly regrettable…..
I absolutely agree. I was afraid that it might have been cut up. I’d definitely be framing it in an archival box frame, or....or at a pinch, turning it into a large cushion (decorative only). But personally, I’d frame it because it’s so beautiful and in amazing condition - if it is as old as the dates suggest, but I guess it could be something that someone made to appear old.
Awesome!! My grandparents lived through the depression and raised me….someone said….Ben Franklin?? Necessity is the mother of Invention! Definitely makes us more resourceful!! Keep it up! Bartering or Swapping is great fun too!!!
Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!! Yes!!! I love Jim Broadbent! There’s a version with Bilbo that I love too & of course Arriety 🤩🥰✨🌟💖🌠 Great job Miss Maksy!!! I want to make one!!!!! I will!!!! I hope so!!! I’ll try!!! LOL
I dressed as Arrietty once for World Book Day at school. I basically wore a basic dress but my mum made a huge pencil out of the inside of a roll of wrapping paper and I just carried that around all day 😂
Rachel, my girlfriend is obsessed with your style in this video. She kept “ooo”ing and “ahhh”ing over all your looks and especially your hairstyles! If you ever feel like it please do a hair tutorial for those borrower buns because she is trying to do them and its not going well lol. Literally my favorite video of yours amazing job!
I love that you show re-using the packaging and thrifting! I'm almost at my 12 month mark of Not Buying Anything New (except like medication, and food) and my brain has actually started to rewire itself to using what I have. And it is Exciting. And saves a LOT of money. And sparks my creativity. Thank you Rachel, gem of a person.
@@KasumiSan1989 No one is perfect, not you, not me, definitely not people who get weary from trying really hard and still being shamed for doing their best. Let's build each other up, not point fingers for a moment of feeling superior. K?
This video takes me back, when I was 7 my school had a "dress up as a fictional character" day, I went as Arietty, my mum used a dog blanket (washed ofc) as a dress, a coat hanger bent into a paperclip with yellow tape over it, bubble wrap over my shoes, and a bunch of duct tape around my waist. I freaking loved it. And I won the best costume prize for my year hehe ❤️ your version is hand's down much better haha, you incredibly talented human bean!
Honestly, I LOVED the little vest, because it's a little "awkward" and not that flattering, it really give the borrower vibe ! Also, I wonder have you seen studia Ghibli's version of the Borrower ? The secret world of Arriety, it's super super cute too
Since you like the Borrower, I recommend The Secret World of Arrietty. An amazing studio Ghibli movie based on the same book x There's the Japanese dub, the American dub and the British Dub with Tom Holland x
@@allysonmccartney2150 In the American Dub, it is David but in the British dub, its Tom Holland. I live in England and my dub contains Mark Strong, Tom Holland and Saoirse Ronan xx
Best. Video. Ever. I’m forever telling my husband that “the borrowers took it” anytime we misplace something. While I don’t *actually* think there are tiny people in my walls I refuse to ever stop pretending there are.
Rachel: "I'm going to spend 4 days making a borrower costume" Day 2 - Rachel continues making borrowers costume, while wearing a perfect borrowers costume! 😄😘 Re the kneepads, I think a few of those disposable foil family sized pie dishes, layered up , possibly with a bit of that foam board between some of the layers to keep it thick and rigid, and then the sides cut and rolled in to form the edge? Something like that may save you a bit of heartache, hopefully.
I had no idea there was another borrowers film aside form Ghibli's Secret World of Arrietty, but the book series was a HUGE part of my childhood and you really, viscerally took me on a nostalgia trip with this. I need to find where my copies of the books have ended up, maybe even hunt them down in the original language to reread. There's something extremely delightful and whimsical about cottagecore at that size. Edit: SO MUCH KUDOS for actually trying to make something shaped out of the giant knit! I know I'd probably have just cut it into 2 (or 3 i suppose, i like my front opening clothes) rectagles and made the world's simplest sleeveless jacket/coat :'D
This was a super cute project! I have never seen the movie but in Iceland we have a folktale of "búálfar" which essentially translates to home-elf or house-elf and they supposedly live in your home and occasionally borrow things, so when we loose things in our apartment we usually just say that the home-elf must be using it and move on 😊 love all your videos as well!
Rachel: "What is the opposite of miniatures?" Me: "Maxiatures?" Rachel: "... Maxiatures." My proudest moment lol 😂 Also can we appreciate the opportunity for a delightful Maksy-atures pun?
Three things One: I would love to see you also look into the Secret World of Arietty from Studio Ghibli’s costume design (I love the clothes clip as a hair clip) Two: Whenever I see the borrowers I always think of the littles that my mom grew up with and passed down to me Three: I’d definitely be a goth borrower, doilies and lace are a must
After Bernadettes ankle content now we have Rachels knee content! Things are getting saucy with my fav creators. Love the result and the thrifting/recycling as always 🥰
Right? We are highly favored to be online during this golden age of content. But have you heard of Seamstressed? Her most recent hamburger dress creation was gold!
BORROWER CORE! YES! I've wanted to do a Secret World of Arrietty cosplay for years. I love the oversized hair clip she has. And giant buttons are also such a vibe. This video has awakened something within me and I think I have to do some borrower core for Halloween this year.
Arriety's shoes are rubber thimbles, I think. Mother Borrower's apron is a fabric tee shirt tag. Fun, huh? And, the movie has a Pre-Draco Malfoy Tom Felton! How could this not be perfection?😘

The thing about crochet blankets is that I'd imagine they unravel terribly when cut, so I'd try to use the blanket as a whole with some creative gathering (like threading a ribbon through it in strategic locations to gather it down into the shapes you want), then add things on, since crochet takes sewing really well :) That particular zig-zag stitch could be really cute as a skirt or top or even a fun cloak!
If you use the entire width of the blanket and cut just above one of the zig-zag colour changes (would have to cut following the zig-zags too), aside from some little yarn scraps from the cut row it shouldn't unravel at all! If you cut it vertically though and go through the rows then you'd absolutely need to somehow sew and secure every single end
idk if anyone has said this yet but that is an incredibly special turn of the century crazy quilt which honestly should be protected because its a really wonderful example of traditional handicraft.
Also the vest was the perfect "I'm tiny so my clothes are awkward and bulky touch" you didn't need to go so hard but you did and that's why we love you
The Borrower movie is packed with HP alumni. A very young Tom Felton (Draco) plays Peabody Clock, Jim Broadbent (Slughorn) plays Pod Clock, and Mark Williams (Arthur Weasley) plays the exterminator. My mum used to read us The Borrowers as a bedtime story, and we went to see it at the cinema on release. So many happy memories. I loved the outfit- great job Rachel 🧡🧡🧡
RACHEL! We talked about this! Now that you have space you need a cutting table! Please heed this nearly 40yo ex floor troll's warnings! Also Dollar Tree has knee pads made out of foam that are surprisingly good...
I was looking through comments for the knee pad suggestion- I second this one. You can even attach the “snaps” and trim the pads off to size. Really enjoying all of your creations but especially the cosplay stuff ❤
@@rachelmaksy As much as I totally get the whole "eagle eye view" desire, your knees and back will Haaaate you. I am also a 40 year old floor troll and I've had to start using the pool table to cut on because floor too far.
i swear the concept of "The Borrowers" blew my tiny little mind as a child. This + fairies and gnomes and all sorts of mythological teenie people using regular things to make clothing and dishes and what have you was so amazing and fascinating it captivates me to this day
My mom recently passed away, and I've been having such a tough time, but we both loved your videos. They seriously all bring me such joy, but this one has become one of my all time favorites immediately. I seriously need to rewatch the Borrowers, it's been too long. I'm just so glad you do what you do, thank you 💗.
“When someone we love passes, they no longer become a part of our past but a part of our future.” The grief you’re feeling for your mom is testament for how much you loved her. Grief is the price we must pay for loving someone so deeply. ♥️
@@illya7 Thank you, it did. My mom read me the book when I was little and it was one of my all time favorites. When the movie came out, I loved that as well. I think I'll buy the DVD and revisit the memory, it's been too long. My mom's memorial service is actually next week, and my friends are coming over for a girls night over the weekend. I think the movie will be perfect then 💗
@@ginakn615 I'm glad your friends are coming to gather with you, as you honor your Mom. *any wanted hugs* Be gentle with yourself, as you learn how to adjust carrying her around with you in your heart. "What would you wear as a Borrower" best question ever thank you. I always thought the little plastic clip Arriety wears to keep her hair up in the 2010 Ghibli adaptation The Secret World of Arriety was adorable and definitely something I'd try if I was a borrower. Also the idea of like. a coat made of a discarded quilted over mitt or potholder sounds so cute. Or I'd just take in old doll clothes, that would be so fun.
I'm not sure what I'd wear; that needs more thinking. I love your idea of quilted oven mitt/potholder as a puffy coat! What I *do* know what I'd do as a Borrower is for my bed. Y'know that awesome feeling of putting on a brand new pair of socks for the very first time? I'd borrow a whole pair from a multipack to make my bedding. The ultimate squashily soft fluffy marshmallow bed for me to burrow into & never leave!
1. Your hair was so freaking adorable this whole video 2. It's been over 100 in California all week, so this was a nice bit of fall I needed 3. If I was a borrower, I would make a formal dress out of a lace dolly
Oh yes , I just saw a round crochet tablecloth the other day and was reminded how a friend used to turn them into beautiful skirts ..but this one had nasty brown stains on it ...will grab it next month and just dye it with coffee , it looked like a giant doily x
@@grizeldaxxx4568 If you can find it & want to try cleaning it first, Grandma's Secret Spot Remover is amazing. I got horrible black streaks out of vintage white polyester with it, after trying Shout & bleach and neither did anything. It's also gotten out tons of other stains, but that was the one that really impressed me.
That watch belt was adorably my favorite part of the outfit. Even Just the tint of auburn in your hair makes your skin tone glow. So glad you are wearing it that color. Such a beauty.
Omg! Borrowers was my FAVORITE movie as a kid! I love that kind of world building. Your costume cane out amazing and your video game character editing was top tier.
Dearest Rachel, please consider saving that antique quilt. Its a Memory Quilt...the names and dates embroidered on the squares are associated with the person whose clothing the quilt piece came from. Usually, a special occasion or memory like baby clothes...
We have a family crazy/memory quilt, which we treasure. Since there are both first and last names on it, it also has historical meaning. Local historical societies sometimes like to have them.
Whats it to do with her. You guna go to the op shop and buy everything there that's old or has someone's name on it incase it meant something to someone in the past. Silly.
When I was a very little girl, many, MANY, years back, "The Borrowers" series by Mary Norton were my favourite all time books. So I can honestly say to you, Rachel, that you make a perfect Borrower! Well done! ❤
I’m enchanted by miniatures (as I believe Rachel is), and seeing the concept turned up-side down to “maxiatures”-or should I say “Maksyatures”-is blowing my mind! Amazing work, Rachel!
I remember watching the Borrowers and it blew my mind… then I watched the “making of” kind of documentary and was even more blown away, they made costumes that looked like clothe tags, all the props ♥️ just a wonderful wholesome movie
the boots ariety wore may have been made of one of those rubber finger covers for page turning/separating papers (they have the little grippers that make it easier to move the paper and keep you covered so no paper cuts). Also? I am living for this channel, your references have me friggin' nostalgic and you are an absolute gem.
I think it might end up being easier to actually crochet the vest, with a thick cord it wouldn't take long at all and it would look nicer maybe? The big seams on the dress are precious, it gives the dress a very nice feel, I would wear it everywhere :D As for the knee-pads, I think making them similarly like the gardening knee-pads would look both great AND be practical, so get something soft like a medium hard mattress foam and just cover it in fabric, it would look nice and be super good for working on the floor :D
Wasn’t that chunky hand knitting thing a trend a while back? I feel you might be able to shape it better that way! I’ve never done it so I can’t be sure… but now I want to try!
@@lorijacobs7078 Wool roving doesn't hold up to wear though! Since it's made to be pulled apart for spinning, it's terrible for knitting because it shreds immediately, and every little bit of debris that hits it gets buried inside.
Rachel you made my whole day better. I often reference the borrower's movie because it is a beloved classic but most of the time I just get strange look when I mention it. I love that are doing an outfit based on it. I always loved Arrity's look.
Hi there, I’m a borrower. My friends and I enjoy watching your program and were so elated when we saw that you were featuring our style! We never thought that it would become a trend among beans. We had to laugh a little, by the way, when the beans fell out of the sack. What a marvelous pun! There are several of us from different families living in our house. It is a very old house, but not the fanciest kind. It started as a very modest dwelling but has sort of turned into a cake house (as we like to call it) because about every owner has added to it over time. It has many layers to it you see. Our house has many hidden nook’s and crannies and the current owners don’t sweep or clean that often. Let’s just say that there are several generations of spiders living here too. Which is just the way we like it! My family lives in the bathroom, behind the sink where there is a little dead space in the wall. I know what you’re thinking. Who would want to live in a bathroom? But honest, it’s the best location for us little folk. It’s right next to the kitchen for one, has a good water supply, has a laundry space attached with more than enough socks to keep us warm and clothed. The beans do complain quite often about mis-matched socks, but it’s fine because who really cares about mis-matched socks?! They hardly ever care when the buttons go missing either. My mother likes to take the loose hair out of the brushes and weaves them into the prettiest garments. Everyone in the community adores them because of they’re daintiness. Something that you just can’t achieve from scraps you’ve borrowed. Well, gotta go. We can’t get caught using the phone and they will be waking up soon. Can’t wait for your next clever video! xoxo P.S. My friend Wynn would like me to ask you if you plan to do anymore videos featuring little things? She just loved your mouse house and wishes she could visit it.
hello borrower! i am a human bean, your lifestyle sounds so fun, i wish i could shrink down and be a borrower anyways i hope the bean that the phone belongs to doesn't see your comment, they would be utterly terrified😂 p.s. was it like a game of twister to write this
The vest might be my favorite part! Absolutely inspired choice to use a giant yarn, it could totally have been harvested from a little sock or tea cozy. And I genuinely don't find its bulk unflattering at all, I like the "cropped armor top" aesthetic!
I grew up reading the book series "The Littles" as one of my favorite book series. I was salty when The Borrowers came out because I thought they stole the idea from The Littles. That was before we had internet, a quick search just now taught me that The Borrowers came out a good 10 years before The Littles 🤣 I still love the idea of tiny people living in your house. While watching this video something started moving inside the empty drink can next to me, now I am certain it is not a fly lured in by leftover drops of cider in there but definitely a tiny human...
I still have all my Littles books stashed away with the rest of my favourite books from when I was a kid. I am very much looking forward to reading them with my son when he is old enough 😍
Kid me was entirely obsessed with this film, and adult me 1000% forgot that until this video. And in this short clip, I realized the Borrower's look like a cross between the Weasley family, and what battles amongst some ancient Britons and Pictish tribes (I imagine) might have looked like. Love the whole thing.
This is a lovely video idea, even though my allegiance is to the early nineties TV version of The Borrowers, which had a simpler clothing design* and 100% more Ian Holm. Incidentally I thiiiiiiink Ariatty’s shoes in the film are meant to be made from rubber thimbles, that’s the closest thing I can think of, the apron though is definitely a washing label, which is a detail I love. *a lot of the clothes in it were really basic t-shaped smocks made in what was probably upholstery fabric, or things with thick open weaves, basic but incredibly effective.
The stitching for the apron gave me an idea: A scarecrow’s wife who lives with him on the farm. She always makes dinner for him when he comes in from working all day (standing in the field) - honestly would be an AMAZING concept to see you pull off for spooky season!
Eeeeeh so cute! Might be worth making one of those victorian style pockets that just hang off their own waist band and can be worn with any skirt. I saw sewstine make them and they looked super handy. yours could be sized smaller to fit your mic stuff!
I love the watch-belt idea. I think I might use this but maybe find a cool functioning clock and wear it in the front like a giant statement belt buckle.
OMG FINALLY! My aesthetic/lifestyle is Actual Practical Salvagepunk Practiced By An Actual Homeless Person Using Actual Salvaged Stuff, but it's basically IMPOSSIBLE to find inspiration/camaraderie online for it (because "salvagepunk" as a search term is inextricable from Mad Max looks that are obviously unwearable outside of cosplay), and I've never considered the Borrowers as a possible inspo source but they come closer to my actual lived experience of salvagepunk than any other media I've seen! Thanks for this, it's giving me new ideas to work with 😁
I love the look you got! It's very homespun friendly. That quilt is a beauty. I am shocked it was in a thrift store. Quilts like that can fetch a pretty penny in the right places. People collect those, and the authenticity i. That one as a genuine vintage home quilt adds value. Or used to... Maybe that market died? Well don't cut it up. Hang it in a pole against a cold or noisy wall for additional warmth and quiet.
Yeah, I absolutely would not cut that quilt up! That's definitely an old one and, even thought it's either incomplete or damaged, it shouldn't be cut up.
ngl when she pulled a 100+ year old quilt out of the bag I was like nooooo😭😭😭 and then the whole video I was tense that it would show up! (and yeah it's worth a few beans)
I really hope she will not cut it up as well :( idk but some stuff is just nice to be appretiated the way it is. I got crochet lace from the 1930s online a while ago and I will not cut it up (it was already cut on one side, cause it was made for that) but just put it on a shelf as decoration :>
A quilt from 1900 that you showed would be an historical item. Many collectors would be interested in that. Someone made that 120 years ago if I saw the embroidery right when you pulled it out.
@@maddieb.4282 Not about being mad it’s about a piece of history. She literally hand crafts. Get the irony. No one is mad just hoping to point out an historical significant piece
I found this video immensely comforting. I too have watched that borrowers a number of times. I also have a love of all things tol and smol. I'm talking BFG, Iron Giant, The Secret World of Arrietty, Indian in the Cupboard, Gulliver's Travels, Nigh at the Museum, the list goes on. The side comments, and little antics are so fun. I did not think I'd sit here for 30 minutes, and that time flew by. It was so entertaining to watch you make the outfit. Also that needle you lost, I figure a borrower has picked it up, and put it too good use. I'm sure they thank you for it everyday :) You've captured the whole vibe of the borrowers really well. It was such a pleasure to watch you piece your outfit together
I love that you got a bunch of green, unroasted coffee beans in the sack you bought!! Also, thank you for the nostalgia trip because omg do I love The Borrowers!! Your outfit came together so cute and I love it! If you haven't seen it already, studio Ghibli has a movie called the secret world of arietty and it's a retelling of the same story! :D
I loved the borrowers growing up too! There was a great borrowers tv series on the BBC, starring Ian Holm and Penelope Wilton, that I watched religiously on telly back in the day ❤ The costumes aren't as amazing as the film version, but the acting and story line more than make up for it. If you haven't watched that one yet, Rachel, I'd highly recommend it. Oh and fyi the apron in the film adaption is made from a care label, which I friggin love the idea of! I'm always cutting them out of my clothing because they irritate me. So the idea that a borrower is picking them up out of my fabric trash bin and using them for aprons is just so adorable. Great video hun! Big love from Manchester UK xXx
I need to reread The Borrowers, I haven't read those books since I was little. I've never seen the movie, but, no offense, I'm shying away from a Hollywood adaptation of what I remember being a book I loved. The sense of wonder, though, that I can relate to! I don't really remember the plot or those books, but the mood, the vibe, the feelings, those I remember. Edited to add: Maksy-atures! Maksy-atures! Get it, get it?
Yesss! My fav part of the movie is when the dad says, ‘No, no, no, and again, no!” I say it all the time. Along with so many other phrases from movies. Love you, woman!
Borrower-core the aesthetic I didn't know I needed in my life but I do. Well seeing what would be around my flat if I'd be a borrower living here it would be art supplies and old socks that were lost under the abyss of the sofa. Not sure how that combination would work but oh well.
If you were a borrower, unless you were an overmantle you'd likely know how to sew your clothes. Therefore you'd likely have scavenged some of those socks for fabric, and just imagine what they could do with your art supplies! If nothing else your borrower rooms would be super decorated exactly how you'd like.
The outfit came out super cute! Specially the watch belt and the button purse! If I was a borrower, I would borrow stuff from children's rooms (tiny toys, tiny jewelry, shiny nail polishes, and glitters!) preferably all in pinks and blues and purples :) I'd be such a cute borrower I think
So many things to love about this video. 1: your hair looks amazing and they warm brown red so flatters you and your skin tone and aesthetic 2: I’ve missed your full instructional videos so this was a treat 3: your barn is really coming together and I am here for the full Rachel aesthetic 4: we’ll just the whole darn video was the bees knees!
I was having such a hard day today and thought to myself "I really hope Rachel made a video I can watch while I eat my emotions" and lo and behold you did! Thank you so much for your cozy, cute, happy content that I consistently go back to like a security blanket
I still have my copies of the original book series with really fantastic illustrations by Beth and Joe Krush. I read them so many times as a kid and a teen and was just fascinated with the idea of being such a tiny person and using things designed for big people in new and creative ways.
I love the part where you're talking about how the dress fabric should technically be large print and you literally are wearing a skirt with giant plaid print on it that would have worked perfectly as a piece for a borrower outfit 🤣
The dress was soooooooo stinkin' cute. I love the material it was made out of. Very fall, very dark academia. This whole look was adorable. Not sure why the belt and purse can't be everyday wear.

IMO the BBC miniseries version of The Borrowers and Studio Ghibli's Arietty are far superior to the movie version but I always wanted to be a Borrower and was obsessed with their homes and clothes as a kid. Love this vid
I've never seen the Borrowers movie but I read a couple of the Borrower books and like you was enchanted by the idea of their small size and crafty repurposing of objects. Loved your interpretation and this video!
I just moved into a new house a few days ago. Playing these videos in the background while I unpack has helped me feel so much better and like I have company while I conquer what feels like an overwhelming task.
Me, a Brazilian, seeing the coffee sack: “Holy Moly!! Is that a freaking Brasil reference???” (I know that’s not exactly how the meme goes, but I didn’t want to curse in the presence of someone as wholesome as Rachel 😳)
I work at my childhood library (yes, this is as wholesome as it sounds) and I was LITERALLY just thinking about the Borrowers books today as I shelved some children's books, so I GASPED when I saw this notification. Once again, you fulfill that 90's kid urge to live inside our childhood films and tv shows =^_^= Love you so much! xx
Rachel, your vibe in this video is wonderful. You seem so incredibly relaxed and bubbly and content with what you're doing. And don't think that your other videos are lacking these vibes, okay?! They're just extra present in this video 😅 We love every video you upload!!!

Your video titles make me laugh so hard. "Fuggin'" is now a part of my vocabulary.

I’ve not seen The Borrowers movie you referenced but I have seen Studio Ghibli’s version The Secret World of Arietty so still grasping the concept and I LOVE it

Was about to comment this! I recognized it right away!
Came here to say this but you beat me to it! Rachel’s ask version totally gave the same vibe though :)
Glad someone else caught this too
Well that makes sense then
I came to the comments to check for this.
Rachel: I'm going to make a borrower outfit.
Also Rachel: wears borrower clothes to make borrower clothes.
That second day outfit with the big check tablecloth aesthetic skirt and chunky knit slipper socks was perfect for a Borrower!
@@LeJimothy yeah I was like, well, mission accomplished.

Yeah, that one with the large pattern looks way more like something a tiny person could wear than something with such a tiny pattern, lol 😅.

School are both happening , it's definitely not Summer anymore !
RACHEL!! I love this project so much, but PLEASE do not use the "patchwork fabric" in a project that requires you to cut it! That's called a crazy quilt top and they are historically significant primary sources. That one looks like it's in really great condition and it actually has names and dates which means it's even better!! Turn it into a wall hanging or a quilt, but please don't cut it up 😭😭😭
mood forever
If I was a borrower, I’d definitely use a scrunchy as a tutu ☺️
Oh my gosh, that's such a cute idea!!
This would be so cute! 😍
You are a visionary
I think it would also be easy to make it to scale. 👍
I used a scrunchy as a tutu on a mini teddy I had as a kid. Super cute!
Like, I will never NOT be excited when I get the notification for a new video she's posted, regardless of what the content of the video actually is.
that means so much to me thank you 😭😭
Yep. Alt Jenna. Hobbit Jenna 😂
Rachel: *pulls off hat to reveal yet another, smaller hat*
3:58 I’m pretty sure her apron is a care tag from a regular piece of clothing! (You can see the little iron symbol) which I never noticed before in my two and a half decades of familiarity with this masterpiece of a movie, and makes me love it that much more
It IS, i love that
I love how Rachel's channel has just become her doing whatever makes her happy. I'm completely along for the ride!

I buy them, but I end up framing them and hanging them on the wall
Especially the really old ones
I did use one pillowcase to cover an antique lampshade, it looks great on that antique floor lamp, and I only had to open up holes that already existed so I didn't feel bad about it
Make a skirt out of it where it's less cutting and more usable❤️❤️
Not the same but I once bought a beautiful silk dress in a charity shop for the fabric (to make into a headscarf) and it was only once i started taking it apart that I realised it had all been painstakingly sewn by hand, and here I was HEARTLESSLY chopping it up 😭 the guilt was awful but it was already too late so I made sure the recipient of the headscarf knew the backstory and hoped she'd love it all the more for it! (she did)
I and one of my friends were absolutely obsessed with borrowers after seeing Studio Ghibli's The Secret World of Ariety in theaters as kids, we bought those oversized novelty pencils and played in her treehouse and pretended that it was a treehouse in a bush and that we were borrowers and had the time of our lives
that sounds like so much fun!! i would die to have a treehouse and pretend to be smthn fantastical 😩😩
I feel like a coffee filter would be great for circle skirt petticoats as a borrower
Even better like 5 coffee filters for extra poof
Omg or a handkerchief with lace on the edges 🥰
i feel like that would rip too easily.
GIRL SAME, I built so many borrower houses and I was OBSESSED with this movie and the books!
That is so cute!!
i was obsessed with the books for so long & somehow didn’t know abt this movie until today?????
There’s also a tv show this older. It’s still on the channel Retro atavistic. Brilliant actors. CGI unfortunately of it’s time and slightly regrettable…..
That is older……sorry, auto correct.
That antique quilt would be super cool as a framed wall hanging!
Yeah, I was hoping she wouldn't cut that! Such history !
There’s a version with Bilbo that I love too & of course Arriety 🤩🥰✨🌟💖🌠
Great job Miss Maksy!!!

I will!!!!
I hope so!!!

Rachel, my girlfriend is obsessed with your style in this video. She kept “ooo”ing and “ahhh”ing over all your looks and especially your hairstyles!

Best. Video. Ever. I’m forever telling my husband that “the borrowers took it” anytime we misplace something. While I don’t *actually* think there are tiny people in my walls I refuse to ever stop pretending there are.
I frequently refer to the Borrowers whenever I misplace or lose things too!

Is nobody gonna mention that every outfit Rachel wore throughout the video is very Borrowercore ? So dang cute
You should watch the Ghibli version, it's not as crazy as The Borrowers but it's pretty to look at and a pleasant film to watch with some tea

Rachel: "I'm going to spend 4 days making a borrower costume"
Day 2 - Rachel continues making borrowers costume, while wearing a perfect borrowers costume! 😄😘
Re the kneepads, I think a few of those disposable foil family sized pie dishes, layered up , possibly with a bit of that foam board between some of the layers to keep it thick and rigid, and then the sides cut and rolled in to form the edge? Something like that may save you a bit of heartache, hopefully.
*Rachel continues making borrowers costume, while wearing a perfect borrowers costume* Exactly what I was thinking!
Perfectly put. Also, great tip about the kneepads
That is so sweet and wholesome
Alternatively, my German Oma insists 'das Haus verliert nichts' = the house loses nothing. Well, what is borrowed is not lost, so it checks out.
That's hella cute!!! 💞

Three things
One: I would love to see you also look into the Secret World of Arietty from Studio Ghibli’s costume design (I love the clothes clip as a hair clip)

If you cut it vertically though and go through the rows then you'd absolutely need to somehow sew and secure every single end
idk if anyone has said this yet but that is an incredibly special turn of the century crazy quilt which honestly should be protected because its a really wonderful example of traditional handicraft.

the boots ariety wore may have been made of one of those rubber finger covers for page turning/separating papers (they have the little grippers that make it easier to move the paper and keep you covered so no paper cuts). Also? I am living for this channel, your references have me friggin' nostalgic and you are an absolute gem.
Mommas skirt/apron is definitely a clothing washing instructions tag which is sooo creative
Or crochet the vest with wool roving, which is the unsound version of yarn, and absolutely GINORMOUS!
Yeah, knitting the vest with either suuuuper chunky yarn or with roving would not take very long!

Can’t wait for your next clever video! xoxo
P.S. My friend Wynn would like me to ask you if you plan to do anymore videos featuring little things? She just loved your mouse house and wishes she could visit it.

anyways i hope the bean that the phone belongs to doesn't see your comment, they would be utterly terrified😂
p.s. was it like a game of twister to write this
@@WoodlouseFairy You are human? Because your name says fairy? ;)
@@QueenShireeni am human as far as i can tell, i just like the way woodlousefairy sounds like as a nane
As a long-time Brazilian viewer, I have to admit I let out a squeal when I saw the "Cafés do Brasil" print on the coffee bag😆Great video as always!!
Tambémmmmmm
Sim! HAHAHAHA
siimmm
Oh! I hope you helped them get out!!
Me too! Totally thought they stole it from The Littles. To this day I wish they were real (dramatic sigh)
I still have all my Littles books stashed away with the rest of my favourite books from when I was a kid. I am very much looking forward to reading them with my son when he is old enough 😍
I always thought the littles were cooler because they had tails.
The aesthetic of this whole video is IMPECCABLE. literally everything about it makes me happy 🥺
Right?!! Every frame is gorgeous!!
Yes, I’m also team 1992 tv version 🙌🥳 I loved all the costumes and Arrietty’s diary and giant pencil ✏
Yaaaasss Ian Holm will always be Pod to me. British older millennials nostalgia.
Yes team 90s. I thought I was the only one who remembered it.
Watched the tv show religiously as a Kid and was horrbly disappointed when the movie had a different cast😅
- need to give that a second chance!
The stitching for the apron gave me an idea:
A scarecrow’s wife who lives with him on the farm. She always makes dinner for him when he comes in from working all day (standing in the field) - honestly would be an AMAZING concept to see you pull off for spooky season!
All the food she makes her scarecrow husband is just corn related 🌽 lol i think ur idea sounds super cute
OR she stands in the field, guarding the plants, and he supports her by cooking dinner... still cute, i guess :>
I thought it wasn't going to work and then it did and now I will never doubt her again.
That quilt is waaaaay too pretty to be cut up, I agree!
A quilt from 1900 that you showed would be an historical item. Many collectors would be interested in that. Someone made that 120 years ago if I saw the embroidery right when you pulled it out.
Agree. It horrified me that Rachel thought about cutting it up.
Y’all be mad at something she didn’t even do lol
@@maddieb.4282 Not about being mad it’s about a piece of history. She literally hand crafts. Get the irony. No one is mad just hoping to point out an historical significant piece
Yes! Rachel, please don't cut that one up. It's over 100 years old.
I'm not sure if it's really old or just made to look old. Anyway. Cut it up if you want to. It's yours.
I'm sure they thank you for it everyday :)
You've captured the whole vibe of the borrowers really well. It was such a pleasure to watch you piece your outfit together
Dollar Tree has foam knee pads you could use as the base for the “snaps”.
Came to the comments to see if someone mentioned the unroasted coffee beans 😂
Also, your commitment to the transition/title shots is amazing! You do a great job being a filmmaker and content creator.
Thought the same thing, "Maksy-tures" !
Yesss! My fav part of the movie is when the dad says, ‘No, no, no, and again, no!” I say it all the time. Along with so many other phrases from movies. Love you, woman!
I love the borrowers! I would totally wear borrowercore! 😂
THIS MOVIE DOES NOT GET ENOUGH LOVE. I was obsessed as a child.
OHHHH you’d look so fashionable!!
So many things to love about this video.
1: your hair looks amazing and they warm brown red so flatters you and your skin tone and aesthetic
2: I’ve missed your full instructional videos so this was a treat
3: your barn is really coming together and I am here for the full Rachel aesthetic
4: we’ll just the whole darn video was the bees knees!
I was having such a hard day today and thought to myself "I really hope Rachel made a video I can watch while I eat my emotions" and lo and behold you did! Thank you so much for your cozy, cute, happy content that I consistently go back to like a security blanket
The clock belt!!!!! I totally wanna repurpose an old photo frame for my own. I want a fully functioning clock in my back for no reason.
3:32 - 3:37 Back in 2000 when I first got out if high school (& yes I *KNOW* this confession dates me!) I worked as a receptionist.
Part if my job was to go through & file *TONES* of paper documents. To stop myself from constantly getting paper. Cuts on my fingers I wore rubber thimbles. That not only protected my fingers. But had little grippy knobs on them to help me grip the papers more easily.
Her shoes kinda look like they were made from rubber thimbles. These days most everything is digital so the need for rubber thimbles is not really required. So not many people will recognise them.
The stop motion in the title screen transitions is so cute! Great job Rachel, I see the extra effort that took! 💚

IMO the BBC miniseries version of The Borrowers and Studio Ghibli's Arietty are far superior to the movie version but I always wanted to be a Borrower and was obsessed with their homes and clothes as a kid. Love this vid
HELL yes queen this is so nostalgic for me . and as for childlike wonder, nada . the borrowers always terrified me !!!
I've never seen the Borrowers movie but I read a couple of the Borrower books and like you was enchanted by the idea of their small size and crafty repurposing of objects. Loved your interpretation and this video!
I love how as Rachel says “there’s less threat of getting stabbed with the needle” I STAB MYSELF WITH A NEEDLE 😫
WHAT yes this is amazing???
also the outfit at the beginning of this episode >>>>>>
I just moved into a new house a few days ago. Playing these videos in the background while I unpack has helped me feel so much better and like I have company while I conquer what feels like an overwhelming task.
Me, a Brazilian, seeing the coffee sack: “Holy Moly!! Is that a freaking Brasil reference???” (I know that’s not exactly how the meme goes, but I didn’t want to curse in the presence of someone as wholesome as Rachel 😳)
o comentário que eu tava tentando achar existeeeeeeee
🤣 I'm having rapid fire flashbacks to times Rachel has cussed on this channel
Eu dei um grito aqui quando ela mostrou o saco de café hauahauahauha aaaaa
OK hear me out! tiny historical pockets sized for the mic, each on different neutral colored ribbons so it matches any outfit! you could even embroider on the pockets
And when you're not using a mic, they'd be perfect for pocket watches or monocles (or AirPods)!
I adore EVERYTHING about this video. The idea, the execution, the result all of it perfection! You are an original and I can't wait for borrower core to happen
Yes! 2 granny squares out of super bulky yarn for front and back just partly seam the sides to leave armholes and a bit at the top on both sides for shoulder straps
