  • Passenger occupancy detector failure is a common issue on many GM vehicles including the 2012 Volt shown in this video

I'm in east bay realized you were in city before I saw your bio. I would be willing to buy a used seat and diy but I worry how can I tell used seat is not f'd up before I buy. Also do you have any used part place recommendations for bay area? I wish they had diy shops like I had in military where I could pull in do the work with an experienced mech looking over shoulder offering advice

Have a 2012 Volt with this same problem. Chevy service tech says the module (as opposed to the sensor?) is bad but the part is no longer available. Says getting a junkyard seat won't work because each module is keyed to the VIN and cannot be reprogrammed for a different vehicle. Does this make sense? Bottom line, can't get a new part and can't use a junkyard replacement seat??

I would try to diy install junk yard seat.

I have 3 Chevy Volts. I found out that puling a part the harnesses connections for the Airbags under both the driver side and the passenger side, spraying both side with Blaster brand Lithium & Silicone mixture (Walmart) then putting the connectors back together, almost fixes the Airbag warning problems. Those harnesses are very difficult to take a part (3 under the driver side and 3 under the passenger side). Can you make a TH-cam video showing how to take those harnesses a part without damaging them?

I will show more closely next time I disassemble one.
A bad occupant sensor (seat scale ) seems like it is only fixable by replacing scale or plugging in a scale bypass device. Such devices are only available for more popular models, I couldn't find any made for chevy volt

There's just got to be an easier way to fix this problem. Replacing an entire seat for a $5 sensor is not that practical.

Paying a shop $2k to fix your airbag system isn't practical either! So far no one seems to have an affordable way to fix the seat. The parts and labor of seat repair are very high.

too bad that passenger sensor mat will also fail soon enough. hate those mats.

I guess I would be a faster job the second time around.
I heard it is from moisture so more likely to fail when seat is allowed to get wet like rain or a spilled drink.

@@Mrelectric423 I pulled the seat out and tried to dry it (remove the leather cover) and pull the portion of the sensor where it dips down out and let it dry in front of a heater overnight. Working for 2 days...

@@Mrelectric423 thanks, I posted the raw video of what I recorded showing the sensor (in case it would work). If it holds up will do a better video. I was about to change out the seats but the one at the junk yard was destroyed so just tried it out and it happens to work...for now. th-cam.com/video/Gi9fDOijURI/w-d-xo.html
