Underrated manga, underrated anime, and even more underrated soundtrack. This is one of the best anime OSTs i've ever heard. It sounds ethereal, touches the soul, and sets exactly right atmosphere to the scene so you can actually feel the darkness of the show. Hidden gem, pure masterpiece.
incredible show. the animation choice gives the characters a level of authenticity which benefits the show. i love how awkward moments can be and the way you feel second hand embarrassment for kasuga. the depiction of teenage awkwardness is so real and relatable, it gives the anime a level of realism that many other anime lack. using 'flowers of evil' to show kasugas descent into perversity is a really good metaphor. nakamura and kasuga seem so different yet at their core they're the same with the way they view themselves separate from the 'fodder' of their town. kasugas development in realizing he isn't better than other people because of superficial things like reading pretentious books, and him even admitting that he doesn't really understand them. nakamuras diary gave her character an added layer of depth and gave her more humanity to the audience. the classroom scene was absolutely beautiful in the way that you could feel the euphoria of nakamura and kasuga, the entire thing was so well done and was a total upgrade of that scene (the manga scene version just doesn't have the same affect.) the incredibly long and drawn out walk out of the school allowing the two of them to digest what they'd just done and for the audience to think about what had happened and why it happened. the relatable desire to escape ones boring town which permeates many teenagers' youth. the haunting but beautiful and perfectly fitting soundtrack. i could keep going i just absolutely adore this anime.

Сначала меня смутила рисовка, но посмотрев 3 серии я понял - это идеальная адаптация. История в аниме не радужная, она реалистичная. Анимешные школьницы в реальности так бы и выглядели. Эндинг вызывает чувство тревоги. Ты как и главный герой пытаешься сбежать от этого дискомфорта, но не можешь. А саундтрек к аниме - это шедевр. Один из лучших, если не лучший саундтрек к аниме. God, I saw Aku no Hana and it's one of my favorite anime. I loved it, and I cried in many scenes because of how moving it is. Hearing their soundtracks again makes me very homesick. Thank you, seriously.
Nice to see Aku no Hana getting some love. I feel it was deeply underappreciated (especially the anime), so thanks for this. Also, there was a live action movie of it released in Japan not long ago. Might wonna keep an eye out for it when it gets translated.
Last month I saw the series it was terrific... I loved it, Now I'll be getting engaged and moving to London, but I want to live forever in Japan. Wish I visit Japan
Thank you, this was just what I was looking for. I just finished watching the anime yesterday and intend to read the manga soon enough. It was quite an obscure series that had a peculiar atmosphere to it, unlike anything I've seen. As some have said was very under appreciated but I was happy that I saw something unique in it.

I actually finished the manga yesterday and as you thought I was pleased with it and the ending as well. No spoilers on my end for those who haven't read but if anyone enjoyed the anime then they should 100% pick up the base material if they want a proper ending. I agree about the manga not quite sharing the same atmosphere that the anime had which was sad to see but fortunately it didn't bother me too much. It carried interesting character developments and it also gave some insight to things that would've been left untold if one didn't read it. At the end of the day the series as a whole might not be for everyone but in my honest opinion if someone is open minded then they could find the beauty or charm that is there.
The earth is a dirty and desolate colony, and I am searching for an escape. I think about fleeing from this realization, about ending it… putting an end to the feeling of psychological suffering. What I see is nothing more than a manifestation of pessimism about a merciless reality on earth, where brutality persists, and everyone participates in it. Few shed tears, while the majority laugh. Our lives, in the end, are nothing but a grand illusion.

I dont think ive ever seen sadism and masochism presented in such a raw yet innocent way. This one incident escalates into the true depth and evil of humankind. It just grows like a flower of evil. Pure evil nature.
