I had read that in the rain scene after both L and Light go out to the rain, when L dried Lights feet it was a reference to the bible when Jesus washed Judas feet , he did all that and knew that Judas would eventually betray him . Just like L knew Light would eventually kill him. He still dried his feet and considered him a friend. Makes me sad things ended the way they did but idk i just thought the reference was awesome .

I'm rewatching Death Note after over a decade, and damn, L's death was depressing af. He seemed so sad about it as if he knew he would die and was worried about Watari too when he deleted all the data...
The thing is, he knew he was going to die eventually. That’s why he befriended light. He considered him a friend even though light never did. The scene when L was outside in the rain was because he wanted to watch the sky one more time before he dies. He knew it was happening that day. That’s also why he said “the bells sounds louder today” or something similar to that. Nonetheless it was a heart breaking scene and I cried a little
I too rewatched Death Note after many years. What struck me was how there was nothing redeemable about Light from the beginning, from the moment he killed Lind L. Taylor. I idolized Light when I was younger, and found him to be so intelligent. Yet his character was written in such a way that forced him to commit nothing but blunders from the start. Had Light stuck to his principles and only killed criminals, he would never have tipped L off by killing Lind Taylor. Then he murdered those FBI agents for absolutely no reason -- Ray Penbar had already cleared Light of any suspicion. But it was Light's hubris that drove him inexorably to a confrontation with L because he wanted to kill him, which eventually led to his death posthumously. Anyway, it's really not the same anime I remember. It wasn't quite as clever as it had been in my memory. I found it to be somewhat contrived at times (though still brilliant). I guess this speaks to my growth? Or my regression.

He wanted the ultimate proof that Light was Kira, even though he knew it already, he still was playing the cat and mouse game until getting solid facts. After discovering the existence of the gods of death, he was pretty much about to blow Light right open, that's why Light had to nuke the entire operation.

Am I the only person who's watched this anime like eight times. I feel like once you finish this you can never go back to watching just average anime. Everything is held to this insane standard.
I love Light's character. In almost every show, the protagonist is flawed, and works out their flaws throughout the series. But when we see Light in the first episode, he seems almost perfect. He's smart, gets good grades, has a good home life, and has a good sense of justice. He even gets an added bonus of being attractive too. But throughout the series, he loses many of his good qualities and becomes a mess of a character. School doesn't matter as much, and his decision making gets worse as the series goes on, with him making more and more mistakes up until the end. His sense of justice became skewed and he goes crazy trying to make this flawless world, loosing his friends, family, and then his own life. That attractiveness no longer has its appeal once he's revealed to be the monster that he truly is. It's an interesting take on a villain protagonist, and I enjoy every time I find these types of characters.

L was literally fighting a solo squad. Any Kira lover here would say that Light defeated L, my answer is just say who was the correct one here, while Light was murdering people to become a god of the new world,L was just doing his duty. Light's ideology was correct but he became evil as the show progressed but L stayed in the right side and died being the right one.
there is no right and wrong in death note. for example L kidnapped and tortured misa (in japan a person is only able to be confined for a period of 72 hours once arrested, and this is only after bein interviewed and going through several procedures) now considering L's immediately able to obtain misa for his torture its obvious that she likely never went through the procedures required.So there are already several breaches of human rights going on and all due to L. made lights dad pertend like he was going to kill Light (witch would've probably scared him for life if he didnt get his memories back) and he commanded a fellon to pose as him so l could see kiras method of killing. He spyed on Light witch is illegal because it seemed like he didnt get permission from the police to spy on the family, lets say he got permission to spy on them, ok, but how do you explane him spying on the yotzuba group(he wasnt with the police task force anymore) Unproper execution and potential cause of murder, spying,sexual harassment, kidnapping, torture. All these crimes are ones that our hero L has committed in his quest to defeat Kira. Remember all this i mentioned is just in the anime. Considering hes the worlds best detective and his relative uncaring attitude while committing these crimes its obvious hes done it all before so hes probalby committed many more of these crimes then we are able to see. L is not justice. Hes just not. Just like Kira isnt so isnt L.

Ryuk had his fun, there was no winning on his side. He actually liked Light in the end I believe. In my opinion L won, and it wouldve been alot easier for him, if Light didnt have two shinigamis at that particular point...
Light won actually. Season 2 was just made up, so the L Fans got they're revenge. Seriously, it should have ended with L's Death, and Kira achieving the perfect world. NieR and Mello were completely made up, and never mentioned before.

In the last episode of the anime, as Light is dying on the stairs, the camera pans to (the ghost of) Ryuzaki standing in front of him with his hands in his pockets... I like to think that he was watching over the investigation and his successor finally achieving what he could not. Rest easy, indeed.

I just finished rewatching Death Note and when L died I felt so broken I could tell he knew he was gonna die. And his smile when trolling Light to come out to the rain was so precious he considered Light a friend but also an rival. I'm sobbing 😭 I'm glad near and mello solved the case. I forgot how awesome that last episode was. It was intense and sad.

The thing for L was, if he concluded the case, he would’ve lost his competitor, possibly the only person alive who could challenge his wits. Anyway, it's really not the same anime I remember. It wasn't quite as clever as it had been in my memory. I found it to be somewhat contrived at times (though still brilliant). I guess this speaks to my growth? Or my regression.

He wanted the ultimate proof that Light was Kira, even though he knew it already, he still was playing the cat and mouse game until getting solid facts. After discovering the existence of the gods of death, he was pretty much about to blow Light right open, that's why Light had to nuke the entire operation.
I think he knew he was about to die. His last move was genius and would have exposed Light completely.

I love Light's character. In almost every show, the protagonist is flawed, and works out their flaws throughout the series. But when we see Light in the first episode, he seems almost perfect. He's smart, gets good grades, has a good home life, and has a good sense of justice. He even gets an added bonus of being attractive too. But throughout the series, he loses many of his good qualities and becomes a mess of a character. School doesn't matter as much, and his decision making gets worse as the series goes on, with him making more and more mistakes up until the end. His sense of justice became skewed and he goes crazy trying to make this flawless world, loosing his friends, family, and then his own life. That attractiveness no longer has its appeal once he's revealed to be the monster that he truly is. It's an interesting take on a villain protagonist, and I enjoy every time I find these types of characters.
Light’s character flaws are one of the many reasons this show is great, and it’s a fantastic take on a messed-up character.

there is no right and wrong in death note. for example L kidnapped and tortured misa (in japan a person is only able to be confined for a period of 72 hours once arrested, and this is only after bein interviewed and going through several procedures) now considering L's immediately able to obtain misa for his torture its obvious that she likely never went through the procedures required.So there are already several breaches of human rights going on and all due to L. made lights dad pertend like he was going to kill Light (witch would've probably scared him for life if he didnt get his memories back) and he commanded a fellon to pose as him so l could see kiras method of killing. He spyed on Light witch is illegal because it seemed like he didnt get permission from the police to spy on the family, lets say he got permission to spy on them, ok, but how do you explane him spying on the yotzuba group(he wasnt with the police task force anymore) Unproper execution and potential cause of murder, spying,sexual harassment, kidnapping, torture. All these crimes are ones that our hero L has committed in his quest to defeat Kira. Remember all this i mentioned is just in the anime. Considering hes the worlds best detective and his relative uncaring attitude while committing these crimes its obvious hes done it all before so hes probalby committed many more of these crimes then we are able to see. L is not justice. Hes just not. Just like Kira isnt so isnt L.

In the last episode of the anime, as Light is dying on the stairs, the camera pans to (the ghost of) Ryuzaki standing in front of him with his hands in his pockets... I like to think that he was watching over the investigation and his successor finally achieving what he could not. Rest easy, indeed.

@yashwanth gowda The big influencers tell us that trought hard work everything is possible, if you study you will become rich, that we all love each other, nothing bad is going to stop us.
But when you try to do the same things they are doing you realize that you're not getting anywhere by being this way. Billions of things happen every second that affect your life at the moment or will in the future, and a good loving person like you that doesn't want to betray, kill, steal, and all that stuff decides that you won't get anywhere by being this way.
That's my opinion on this song, and as a reply to your comment aswell, you either suffer and die alone in the shadows, or you become the shadows and you rise to the top.
