    Great video Jack.
    The Master Lock that Jack installed is not supplied with masonry screws. They are regular screws. The installation instructions that come with the product actually advise the use of wall plugs (also known as rawl plugs) when mounting the product on a brick wall.
    BTW, NEVER use concrete screws or bolts to install Master Locks onto brick walls. Concrete screws are great for fixing things like window and door frames that don't move a lot. But they tend to come loose when put under tension with potential movement (loading unloading). Wall plugs are definitely the way to go here with one caveat ... for extra security to make it more difficult for the Master Lock to be ripped off the wall, place the wall plugs into the brick using a strong adhesive glue (eg. araldite epoxy glue or Liquid Nails for bricks). And then apply some epoxy glue into the wall plugs before fixing the screws in place.
    As for PPE, always use a face mask, eye protection AND ear protection when drilling into bricks.
    Also, when drilling holes directly into brickwork it is a good idea to use a drill that has an impact function or hammer function. Just makes the job tha little bit easier. But with patience and effort, a regular drill with a masonry drill bit will work fine for holes up to around 6mm in diameter. Let the drill bits cool down for a couple of minutes after use before handling them again. They can get pretty hot. Make sure to clean out the holes before inserting wall plugs. Personally, I prefer to drive the screws using a manual screwdriver. It takes a little longer but less chance of making a mistake.
    Finally, remember this sort of device will protect its contents from 99% of people. However, there will always be that 1% that will be able to break into the thing and access the contents. They are convenient but not 100% foolproof. But then again, what is? Cheers.

    Hi Jack, great video. Can you please tell me what size drill bit you used?

    • @DIYJack
      @DIYJack  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The drill bit should match with whatever wall plug you are using. On the back of wall plug packaging it will say what diameter hole to drill. The green plugs I used in the video are 7mm.

    Why would u check the level if it’s not been drilled in you would drill it’s first fixing then level it

    • @DIYJack
      @DIYJack  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because after you drill you can't correct it. Once you drill the holes it sets 99% of it. You can still make minor changes but not much.

      @@DIYJack I think the gent above means to drill and fit the top screw loose first, then you can level and mark the other hols without the box moving whilst you mark them.

      @@aerofly2 Hi Roberts and Aero Fly, if the surface you are mounting on is 100% the same flatness then yes you would drill fix the first screw then level after that but for my brick wall. because the box only has limited "choices" to select where to place it as the bricks are uneven. I need to carefully select a good level spot FIRST then screw in all the screws. Hope that explains it.
      I know some of you guys are thinking why is this guy doing extra steps. He's and idiot. Trust me I am one of the most laziest guys out there. If I could skip a step I would. But for these types of walls with this type of brick. Using level on the first hole would make it look much better. If you installed 100 of these key boxes and I did 100 of these on the same type of wall. My installs would look neater for sure.

    The bolts are crap ….just installed one of these , the top sheared off the bolt while tightening !
    Then again everything you purchase that has supplied screws …the screws are crap .

    Those were concrete screws. No wall plug was needed. Much more secure then using wall plugs

      ahh ok. In Australia we call them wall plugs. I think difference countries and different locations have different names for the same products. : )

      Use a feeler gauge or shim type device to pick it. Plenty of videos show how.
