  • Ep. 90 MAKING BEADED MOSAIC ANIMAL BROOCHES, and grouting a few mosaic hearts!
I start with some thin wood animal cut-outs and add Apoxie Sculpt. Starting with the bear, I dip my finger onto a wet paper towel, and pick up micro beads, then press them into the feet. A few black beads are used for the nose and eye. Then I add all kinds of faceted beads, glass pearls, seed beads and bugle beads in brown tones. Next, I work on the beaded squirrel with the same method, only using silver and gray beads. The squirrel has layered beads added to make the tail seem fluffy. Once the Apoxie is fully set, I spray the beaded projects with Rust-o-leum Triple Thick Glaze to seal them. I mount the sweet pink beaded heart mosaic onto glass using E6000 with silver scrapbook paper behind it for a clean look. Next, I work on another fox, only switch the direction. I use different beads so they are unique pieces. The pins are added with Apoxie Sculpt as well.
I continue getting ready for the Heart Market next week by finishing up the mirrored background on a triple rose mosaic heart. While the Weldbond is drying, I grout a picassiette heart in blue that I made in the classroom this week using white sanded grout. Then back to the triple rose heart mosaic. This time I grout with Natural Gray Spectralock pre-mixed grout.

I love your work. I am so excited .I am in the process of planning a. Mosaic picnic table.I have been out of commission for almost three years. I am a stain glass artist and cannot wait to get back in my studio. You are a blessing. However, there are so many questions I need to ask to prepare for my base.thanks to you I have some of my question answered. I hope that maybe I could take a class with you. I am a Ga. Resident very close to you. You are a great inspiration.

Thanks for sharing. I loved your roses heart! Beautiful👏👏
And what a coincidence! I made a piqueassiette blue-and-white heart with white frame two weeks ago. And I also used white grout, because it looks the best.

I would love to make a broach, but here comes the dumb question: what do you call those pens that you put on the back? Thanks for sharing!

I think they are called Pin Backs or Brooch Pins.

I found the animal cutouts at Walmart around the holidays. I think they were sold as ornaments. I’ve purchased other shapes on Amazon.
