140BHP in a mini that weighs around 600-700KG because of all that cage tubing, but if you’ve been in a mini with just 90BHP you would realise how fast these BEST CLASSIC MINIS really are. My first car was a mini 1275GT at the ripe young age of 18 and I absolutely thrashed it . Now I’m 47 and still think 1 day I’ll build another it’s just something every mini owner goes through. You forget about the scraped knuckles changing engine mounts, or the damn oil-leaks or the crappy heater because they are just SOO MUCH FUN. SCOOBS UK (Wales).
But when you put a substantial cage in a mini you can replace much of the shell with fibreglass or even carbon fibre if you can afford it. Plus theyve had all internals gutted and windows changed for polycarb unlike road going minis without cages. So the weight is probably still less despite the cage.
Small world! Hi lads, Stephen wrote the MW article on my 16v mini and Dan and I were class mates back in school. Nice car, good luck and keep safe chaps. Ed R.
I’m into building aeroplanes these days.... I’ve still got the green 16v one (it’s unofficially for sale) and the elf, one more road mini project to build mind.. Money money money!!!! :-0
Currently in the process of building a 1460 8 port. Any recommendations on how I can purchase the throttle body’s separate as I would like too also run the omex ecu. Been informed through mini spairs there only available in kit form?
A ballpark estimate would be 140bhp, but so much depends on the rolling road, so we don't like to be too specific on this as it can be misleading. Cost depends largely on the builder and components used.
@@MEDEngineeringTechVideos Yep it was purchased and thank god they did or the mini really would be died. Plus I love my Supercharged R53 nearly as much as the ERA.
@@MEDEngineeringTechVideos To be fair the BMW Mini was cherry picked by BMW as someone clearly saw the potential in it. The earliest development cars had Rover chassis numbers and Rover etched glass. It is what it is. I'm just happy an essentially Rover product lived on long after the death of its parent company. BMW have kept it going a little longer than 6 years too! (I know what you meant though!)
@@realMaverickBuckley Why thank God exactly? The new Mini could have been the thing to save Rover. They were left with long in the tooth models (despite the ZS V6 for all its aging origins being described as one of the best FWD cars available at the time) and a quartet of clowns who had fun stripping the carcass and spending money on ridiculous ventures like a super car (just what every ailing car company needs), Le Mans and a venture into the BTCC not to mention all the extravagance and spending on luxuries. Rover never stood a chance and while I absolutely don't hold BMW responsible for the company's demise I do hold the Towers shower absolutely to blame. I honestly think they never had any intention to salvage the company. Have a look at their previous endeavours.
Very nice.
A high level of finish.
Cheers Stephen. Great tech vid & lovely mini 🏁👍🏻
2:40 'Craig Davies' water pump - I'm pleased I'm not the only one who keeps calling the Davies Craig pump that!
Canna get reeewind?!
I thought he made CD’s

@@dfpguitar It's normally around the same weight as standard +/- 5%
@@realMaverickBuckley but a lot stiffer right?
Minimum weight for this race series is 660kg i think.
Thank you for a very informative video, on a beautiful little car....
Quite advanced race car. Big difference to my old road going mini.

Hi Ed, why not build a race car next...?

Stunning Race Mini 👌🏻😎
Interested in access to the plugs? Do the throttle bodies have to be removed first?
Great vid, keep em coming 👍
Trop beau le mini

The DTA ECU is just as good as the Omex. We'd use either.
My favorite car is mini cooper.💗💗😍😍😘😘
Nice but why not start it up or drive it? I would have liked to see it used in anger.
We'll ask Dan for some in-car clips once he gets to grips with it.
Great car. I didn't hear how much HP that engine puts out and how much would that engine / gearbox cost?

@@MEDEngineeringTechVideos holy crap! SO near enough 300hp per tonne with (kind of) an A series . And not a B16/B18. Very nice!
@@realMaverickBuckley I've got a B16A in a Clubbie and it doesn't feel as quick as my 5 port race car.
Craaaaaiiiiiiiiiig daaaaaaaavid!
whats the crank setup are you using?
This is running one of our Multiweb crankshaft kits
What's going on with that map at the bottom on end? I assume it is just and example? D'OH!
How much power and any idea of weights and performance?
looking about 145 bhp with a top speed of around 125-130mph
i want to hear it running Start the the Fucking thing up man
What is the Cost to Build ????
Probably approx 20k engine
Come om how much would it take to build something like this?????
A small house deposit!
Very competitive against other racing classes. What is your normal race budget?
It’s a shame the regs don’t allow the whole engine and transmission to go back 100 mm
Its a mini but inside Mystery of mechanics.
Pero como es racing muy muy bien
Nice!
Sí lo diseño en los guardalodos se vería mejor
go drive it!
Mi auto es viejito pero más viejito más más viejito más más añejo mejor función
And the iconic British car is now built by BMW who stole it
Hardly, they bought the marque along with Rover and kept the classic going for another six years.

Only the name buddy, they haven’t stolen any of the original mini design. You can still buy a “brand new” classic mini in the U.K. if you want one..
