As a Roman Catholic one thing (among many) that I can praise in the Orthodox Church and about the patriarch is he’s not afraid to talk about the differences and disagreements with the west and the Protestants. You’d never hear pope Francis talk about Filique of something like that. God bless.

One thing that has struck me about the Orthodox church - it remembers. It has a long and deep memory. Not a mere recollection of facts, but a recognition of the reality of history, and of the current situation both within and because of history. The words he spoke in the present were rooted in the past and therefore in reality, they had both geopolitical and ecclesiastical significance, and they matter.

As a student in a Catholic university in the 1960s, I took part in interfaith discussions with an Episcopal group at another school. At one meeting the Episcopal clergyman made a side comment that "The Orthodox live in a timeless world," and I laughed in recognition as a memory from grade school days abruptly surfaced. Eddie was a kid I sometimes walked to school with, and he was Russian Orthodox. He and I were casually discussing differences between his religion and my (then) Roman Catholicism, when his face darkened and he told me that the papal legates had placed the writ of excommunication "right on the holy table" in Constantinople. He was referring to the Eastern Schism, of course, between Rome and Constantinople, A.D. 1054. At the time of that conversation, this was just a few years short of 900 years earlier, but Eddie was still sore about it. Now the Patriarch also excommunicated the Pope. I don't know who did the first excommunication, and I don't know if the Patriarch was more mannerly than the Pope had been. But for me, then age 10 or 11, it was old business. Not for Eddie.

For me as a devout Roman Catholic, I salute to Mark of Ephesus for standing his words against the Pope that time, begining around 800 ad, the papacy and the church slowly involve in corruption for powers and glory, riding the name of religion. May one day all things be clear once more and the holy mother church will reunite once more under one head, Christ only and recapture Istanbul to be rename again as Constantinople, the second Rome and to restore Hagia Sophia once more to the cradle of Christianity hub. Gloria Patri

He feels personally responsible to defend and protect the orthodox faith, he is committed to its purity. I wish Pope Francis felt this way about the RCC. I think I will convert to Orthodox, I was debating joining the Orthodox before I actually joined the RCC five years ago. They do seem more in line with Jesus teaching.

orthdox alexis how exactly has the Greek church fallen? That argument cannot possibly be made about Greek churches in Greece, one of the most traditions country, but in America there certainly is some liberalization in terms of pews and confession rules etc. although they are not good things, they are far from heresy. Ecumenism is not a Greek phenomenon, but it is something that affects Gods church as a whole and needs to be wiped off the earth until a true, proper, Orthodox Union can take place

Jacob Raji Because Rome is the Mother of all heresies (Protestantism). Rome unashamedly presents theological and ecclesiastical innovations like papal primacy, the immaculate conception, purgatory/indulgences, the Filioque/changing of the Creed-do I need to go on?-as belonging to the same faith of the Apostles passed down from generation to generation. Rome has turned a blind eye to countless numbers of sexual scandals involving its priests which have been going on for decades. Yes, something isn’t right here: Rome left the true Faith to create its own.

Niko Bellic Rome and the West did nothing to help Constantinople stand against the Muslims. Rome offered protection to Constantinople ONLY if the Orthodox submitted to the Pope. But as the Russian patriarch explained in this video, how can there be a healthy union of Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians when it is forged under duress? St Mark of Ephesus and the faithful Orthodox laity refused union with Rome under these circumstances, which is why the West stood idle and allowed their fellow Brothers in Christ in the East to be overrun, slaughtered, conquered, and dominated for 500 years by the Turks.

RAMI - exactly, the protestant movement is growing, mainly off false propaganda etc. The churches need to settle thier differences quick, growing up catholic I believe rome should just return to the orthodox while keeping the independent pope just to please the western masses but only in figure, he will still have to convene with the eastern patriarchs on matters of legislative, judicial etc. I believe these protestant movements are what is killing christianity, look at how people mock your faith, and those protestants who are berserk out in the streets claiming obsurdities, not all but most, and even highly immoral and cultic protestant movements like Mormonism and west borrow churches that must be obolished, strayed from the true path, there is too much to fix, but blame only thyselves.

Orthodoxy, and Orthodoxy alone is the True Christianity of the Apostles. The only good reason for diologue is that it should bring people in and not lead to others taking our people out.

+Kurt Jensen (Quartus) The holder of the Keys given by Christ to Peter and from Peter to his successors is the defender and interpreter of orthodoxy. The Orthodox Church has usurped this role in order to please long forgotten Eastern Roman Emperors. Heaven spoke when Constantinople fell to Islam and the Hagia Sophia was turned into a mosque. He that exults himself is humbled. Then the Turkish caliph went up against the Catholic King of Albania, George Skanderbeg and was routed despite overwhelming odds. Heaven has shown its hand numerous times, at Lepanto, the Battle of Vienna, Fatima, Lourdes, Guadelupe. One has to be blind not to see it.

If by papist you mean one who respects the holder of the Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven given by Christ to Peter and his successors as his vicar, yes I am a papist and proud of it. What did Christ say to the Apostles? He who rejects you rejects Me and the One who sent Me.

      Desdichado
in Orthodoxy, every Bishop is equal.
No Bishop has authority over another Bishop.
papal infallibility, papal supremacy, filioque, unleavened bread, (the list goes on), are all blasphemous innovations inspired by demons.
in the first thousand years, Orthodoxy existed in both the East and the West.
at the time of the Great Schism, the West lost its orthodoxy, and became a slave to the demonic construct known thereafter as the 'papacy.
hence papism is 1000 years old.
it's progeny, protestantism, is 500 years old.
monophysitism (non-chalcedonians) is an oriental heresy from 451 AD.
Eastern Orthodoxy _alone_ is the Ancient Faith of the Apostles: unchanged, unadulterated, and unwavering from the True Worship of the Triune God.
_25But Jesus called them unto him, and said, Ye know that the princes of the Gentiles exercise dominion over them, and they that are great _*_exercise authority_*_ upon them. 26 _*_But it shall not be so among ye_*_ [the Apostles]'_ - Matthew 20
_Then _*_Peter_*_ and the other apostles answered and said, _*_We ought to obey God rather than men_*_._ - Acts 5_29

The Orthodox must unify with Rome, not because of the threat of Islam (or Persia if this happened earlier than I thought), but because of the threat of Satan and his destruction Leftist ideology. Our Lord prayed that the Church would be One, like He and His Father were One. This unity is only possible through our Lord’s One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church. Our Saints, Patriarch Kirill, gives us another great and Amazing homily against the false and heretical church. These words explain the true love and true faith, Orthodoxy, which Russia has maintained and donated to all over the churches around the world, and the cities where the Orthodox live. Let's pray to our Orthodox church and to our Patriarch, and hope the false way will be one day defeat and the people come back to the true faith. Big hug to my brothers and sister in Russia and in all Russian Orthodox Churches, from Sardinia Russian Orthodox Church. Pray for me.

Jesus prayed that they all might be one. To oppose this is to oppose the prayer of Christ. I'm not saying that submission to Rome is the way forward, but unity is the goal.

Unity on what basis? The prayer of Christ 'that they may one, as We (the Trinity ) are One' presupposes unity in truth and love. There is not a single major area of theology -- Trinitarian, Christological, Mariology, the nature of the Church and her Mysteries/Sacraments, Eschatology, Anthropology , etc -- where there are not serious differences. I do not say this to impugn the sincerity of western Christians, for God alone can judge that -- but dialogue (and genuine, honest dialogue is of course possible) cannot be based on fantasy and on wishing that reality is something other than it is.

I may be one of the very last Byzantine/Orthodox Catholic left in my country to be honest. I was taught well by my mothers family who have remained faithful to Jesus Christ. I will pick up my grandfathers cross and continue to teach as the scripture says not what the west is trying to manipulate. I have lost faith in the church in the west but I have also regained my faith in Jesus Christ.

Regardless of the schism Rome should have saved Constantinople. When I heard this kind of story it sickened me about what Rome did to Constantinople. There is also similar story about what Rome did to Alexandira. Had Rome did take a right decision, by now Constantinople could have been preserved as it used to be but not Turkey. Had Rome pressure Portuguese empire to help the Orthodox in Alexanderia, Ottoman empire could not take control of the middle east. Unfortunately, Roman Catholic did a lot of damages to Christianity.

That is not true I am catholic from Iraq originally, I live in Australia and I love orthodox, I even sometimes attended orthodox churches and mass
When I was in Iraq as Islamic country, Catholics and orthodox live like brothers, Muslims do not care what you are, they look at you as infidel and either convert to Islam or be killed, so we need to be together, love each other, we are all Christians at the end, catholic, orthodox or Protestants, we follow the lord Jesus Christ, do not let hatred guide you, let learn from our mistakes from the past how Constantinople gone, I know because catholic did not help and I feel sorry about that, remember Muslims taking the advantage of this division and they are coming to Europe as mass immigration, so we need to stay together in unity and god bless you ✝️
