Hey Erik, I have bought a Mini Sax from Venice beach and i have yet to find a video that goes through techniques like this one. "peace sign finger" method and "Bending notes with half finger makes a huge difference! Thanks for the tips! Feel free to do more videos on the first instrument played:)
Four just about 4 months now, I've had one of Erik's superb Tenor ATS instruments. I'm finding it easier to play (no mean feat as I have COPD) but the one drawback that I think it has is the lack of a thumbrest. It isn't especially heavy, but neither is it lightweight and it is also quite a good size. It can become tiring after awhile - possibly I feel this more because I'm having to concentrate very much on breath control and keeping the instrument in that 'sweet spot' which suits me. I'm currently trying a few experiments to see what I can attach in the way of some sort of 'ring' around the ATS which will allow me to add a temporary thumbrest. Has anyone else had this problem?
Be aware, if you live in the UK and are buying and importing one of Erik's instruments, the transport costs automatically applied are £64 and then there is an additional charge for VAT of 20% applied in this country by customs and excise - and they WILL levy that duty as a part of the process of importing with the carrier. So, in effect, allow a maximum of £100 on top of your order, depending upon which model you order. I ordered the 'G' for which the duty was 39 pounds.

Why the alto saxophone mouthpiece with the tenor reed? And could a thicker reed be used? I use a 3 1/2 on my tenor saxophone, so the mix kind of confuses me. Also, do the wooden need to be oiled?

Hey Erik, What scale would you recommend for a beginner, and also, what is the most recommended scale for a professional sax player and what scale sax is the most played and most prefered. What i also want to know is that if someone wants to buy only one sax, what scale should it be in?
Thank you for the reply. I've made up my mind for the Bb, I suppose the C is a versatile scale for playing with other instrumentalists on easy chords but it doesn't really have the Jazz vibe to it. The Bb, much like a conventional saxohone, will have that jazzy soul in the Jazz culture scales and it gives that feel of a sad soulful jazz concert. The C just plays too much on scales with happy-ish vibe. :D
Hi Hudson The links to my saxes in the above text. there you can see more information including prices. We ship inside the USA for $10. and outside for $65. If you have someone visiting here its a great way to get the sax for less. Regards, Erik
hi ERIK, I am from India ! i love the way bamboo sound, i personally like to play bamboo flute . . . One thing i want to ask what is the major difference in tone of bamboo sax and a bamboo FLUTE ? _out #onkarx
i played the tenor sax in school band(i think it might have been in Bb, but not to sure), and i was thinking about getting the bamboo sax. which one do you think i should get?
Can u send or make a video about the letters of the of the alto sax and ares os 13 1/4 the circle on the bottom is 1 And the black thing on top is B 5 And what reed we need to us like what number
Hi Nailea: My Alto, (Because in my humble opinion sounds most like a real alto) is my Bb or B Flat instrument. So all closed, which is the root note, or Key is Bb. All fingers closed including the back hole. Then you start opening up from the bottom to the note C, next finger up is D, then Eb (E Flat) F, G, A, and when the back hole is open it is Bb again. The mouthpiece says B5 that is the kind of mouthpiece we use, after much experimentation. And we recommend a tenor 1 1/2 reed. Even though we are using an alto sax mouthpiece. For further questions please email me at info@eriktheflutemaker.com Happy New Year, Erik
Erik, I'm a bagpiper player. My pipes are in the key of b flat. What sax would I be comfortable with. I was thinking mabe the carbon fiber in key of b flat. What say you?
It is the sax we sell most of. We have Bb saxes in Bamboo, Cocobolo, the All Terrain with an industrial polymer and just made some carbon fiber Bb saxes. Soon to come on the market. Great sound, easy on the handspan. At eriktheflutemaker.com Regards, Erik
My saxes have 6 top holes and a back hole. This gives you the 8 note major scale. Cover half a hole for a half not a sharp or flat. Bend back a hole and you bend a note. The limitation is it is only one octave. You can play majoe, minor and pentatonic. Regards, Erik
hola, maestro quisiera saber algo, vivo en Colombia y quiero adquirir uno de sus fabulosos instrumentos pero no tengo tarjeta de crédito, hay alguna otra forma de pago?.gracias de antemano por su atención espero respuesta.Saludos
I've played the native American flute for many years but thinking of trying something different. Never played a reed instrument before. How difficult would that be to master ??
Hi Tony, once saw a small boy in a stroller blow one of my saxes and get sound. When I saw that, I thought anyone can do this. That said, I also sold one to a wise man who could not get sound. The reed lays upon a tight lower lip. Then you produce pressure in the bite. Correct placement, no too far in or out and a sharp huff to get the sound going. Like a Karate kick of breath. At first lots of trial and error. Less pressure to keep it going. But lots of energy and pushing to play. Hope this helps, Erik
The sax I make that sounds more like a tenor is my G. The sax I make that sounds more like an Alto is my Bb. You can only play my saxes in the lower octave. Unfortunately it is a one octave instrument. But lots of fun. Erik
Hi James: This is a one octave instrument. It can play in major, minor and pentatonic major. one can bend notes and play sharps and flats. Not the real sax but I love them as well as many others. : ) . Erik
Oba Adailton Cost of shipping $65. Then you have some cost in customs. The above link on my You Tube All Terrain page will send you to my website. I wish you all the best. Erik
I am not an authority on it. Has a lot of holes and can scare some away. But in the long run probably can do more with it. I have not found it to be rich in sound. But some reverb can help. Bottom line I do not own one. So best I am not the one to speak up.
Hi! Good afternoon. How are you? I was looking at your channel and the videos you made of Bamboo Sax . I was very interested and I wonder if you sell, and you can send to Brazil . If so, calculate how much is everything (freight and price) and send me , or leave here in the comments . OK ? Thank you!

I am in love No words for the above. But I have a question. What key would Jazz/Blues be best in? Ignore the question, of what key would be best in. I know which one to choose, Alto is the best for Jazz/Blues.

Hola buenos dias, donde puedo comprar estos productos??
Hi Erik I just ordered an alt sax Bflat from you and I can't wait for it to arrive! I'm so eager to learn. I some question about the fingering. Is it like playing the recorder? Does it come with a fingering chart ? Thank you
+MARTJE2222 Comes with an easy way to play some songs.
do you have any instruction videos using tabs to show what hole to play, thanks
Hi Jim, we send literature with the sax with some simple songs by number. Erik
lol @ "we'll get to the doh/dough" ;)
great! beautiful sound ... a question, you can add holes to have all the notes of the chromatic scale?
By simply covering half a hole you get a half note. Not good to have too many holes on your instruments. Erik
Beautiful instrument! What is the scale of the Bamboo Sax in C?
C all closed D E F G A B and back hole high C
Why the alto saxophone mouthpiece with the tenor reed? And could a thicker reed be used? I use a 3 1/2 on my tenor saxophone, so the mix kind of confuses me. Also, do the wooden need to be oiled?
Hi! The tenor 1 1/2 reed make it easy to play. We oil the sax before it leaves the shop. Erik
hermoso .. felicidades .. como puedo hacer para adquirir estos saxos ??? vivo en España.. y cuanto cuesta ??? por favor espero su respuesta .. un saludo

The cost of a alto, which would also include a b flat. Your sound is unique, much better that metal to me.
Hey Erik, What scale would you recommend for a beginner, and also, what is the most recommended scale for a professional sax player and what scale sax is the most played and most prefered.
What i also want to know is that if someone wants to buy only one sax, what scale should it be in?
If you play with others in C, D minor F or A minor get the C. Most really like the sound of the Bb. Deeper than the C and has a nice Jazzy voice.

Just wondering, why is the alto sax called the alto when normal alto saxes are in the tune of Eb not Bb?
Great question.
Because it sounds more like an Alto sax. regards, Erik
Which kind of sax is that?
Donde lo puedo conseguir....vivo en México City. Soy Hugo Hernández Rivera.
Hola Hugo en www.eriktheflutemaker.com
Hola Hugo Los saxos se encuentran en www.Eriktheflutemaker.com salud, Erik
Erik, I'm a bagpiper player. My pipes are in the key of b flat. What sax would I be comfortable with. I was thinking mabe the carbon fiber in key of b flat. What say you?
It is the sax we sell most of. We have Bb saxes in Bamboo, Cocobolo, the All Terrain with an industrial polymer and just made some carbon fiber Bb saxes. Soon to come on the market. Great sound, easy on the handspan. At eriktheflutemaker.com
Regards, Erik
Do they have the same fingering as a normal saxophone because i play a saxophone but normal saxophones are soooooo expensive
+Daniel Cloud Hola Daniel. Se puede comprar por Western Union. Pero mejor comunicamos por email a info@eriktheflutemaker.com

God bless you!
do you have any tenors tuned in Bb. and how can you play a bamboo tenor in a lower octave
The sax I make that sounds more like a tenor is my G. The sax I make that sounds more like an Alto is my Bb. You can only play my saxes in the lower octave. Unfortunately it is a one octave instrument. But lots of fun. Erik
i'm a noob to wind instruments. whats the range of one of these?
Hi James: This is a one octave instrument. It can play in major, minor and pentatonic major. one can bend notes and play sharps and flats. Not the real sax but I love them as well as many others. : ) . Erik
James Poh
Once, I thought that a sax was a wood instrument.
Erik boa noite, quanto custa um sax tenor enviando para o Brasil ?
Erik good night how much a tenor sax sending to Brazil?
Oba Adailton Cost of shipping $65. Then you have some cost in customs. The above link on my You Tube All Terrain page will send you to my website. I wish you all the best. Erik
How does this differ from the xaphoon?
I am not an authority on it. Has a lot of holes and can scare some away. But in the long run probably can do more with it. I have not found it to be rich in sound. But some reverb can help. Bottom line I do not own one. So best I am not the one to speak up.
Hi! Good afternoon. How are you?
I was looking at your channel and the videos you made of Bamboo Sax . I was very interested and I wonder if you sell, and you can send to Brazil . If so, calculate how much is everything (freight and price) and send me , or leave here in the comments . OK ?
Thank you!
+Junior Vitor we ship all around the world. International shipping cost $65. Then you will have a customs fee. Never fun. The prices of the saxes are on our website. Regards, Erik
I am in love
No words for the above.
But I have a question.
What key would Jazz/Blues be best in?
Ignore the question,
of what key would be best in.
I know which one to choose,
Alto is the best for Jazz/Blues.
Any key you want to play in. My Bb sax will play in a pentatonic major scale in Eb doing the Jazz secret- Peace Sign-fingers trick. Regards, Erik
