This is going to a great resource for those ancestors who were alive in 1939 and who have died. I had some ancestors who were not very good at sharing stories. Now I can pad the stories out with information, it might also explain their reluctance in sharing information.
I was born in 1932 and I was living at 57 River Avenue, Rye Park, Hoddesdon with my parents and sisters in 1939. I have vivid memories of our lives during the war and could have much to add to records of people and places.
Hi Ian, we open new records every few months of those who have passed away (when we receive proof of death) or those who pass 100 years old. The Register was annotated until 1991 by the NHS.
Why can I not find location of 2 uncles (aged about 7 & 11 in 1939)? The rest of the family with older & younger siblings are located at the same address as expected, but 2 are missing
How is it that on previous occasions my Mother was included on the Register but with wrong house number and age and now she isn’t there? NOR me either altho’ at school age? Also that previously a counter search could be made by street name and now this has disappeared?
There are some comments on the opposite page that is not always possible to see the whole notation. Also it sometimes says e.g.See Page 19. How do you see this information
My parents John & Dorothea May Stansfield are shown as living at 4 St Johns Mount, Wakefield together with their second daughter Dorothea Gillian age 6, I was born 2nd November 1939 so obviously not included. However their first child & my eldest sister Andree Louie born 10th November 1934 is not included. Sadly from age around 5/6 years she was diagnosed as having had brain damage at birth and went to live in St Catherine's, Tickhill Road, Doncaster - how do I find her & details of the date she was placed there? Janet May Maxwell nee Stansfield
Another interesting insight into the 1939 census. My ancestor is listed as a nurse, living with the Matron/Doctor's assistant of the Nursing Home but my ancestor has 'i' inmate whereas the Matron has 'o' officer. What is the difference between an inmate and a patient? Could it be that an inmate was a worker living at the institution but not as a patient?
Oh no! A technical hiccup meant the outro video didn't play during the live broadcast. Here it is if you fancy having a gander! th-cam.com/video/EXM2fGzH2oI/w-d-xo.html
Servicemen and women on active duty don't appear on the register, even if they were there at home, according to Who Do You Think You Are magazine in Nov 2015.
@@helenemcqueen1315 : So how did their absence on the Register affect the population statistic for thé Year 1939....vaunted as 41million as numbers recorded. To be brutally candid I reckon this whole agenda reveals a crying shame of modern inadequacy to vet necessary statistics...and I’d go further to say opinion wise that maybe there ought to be a national census more often say every five years.
If the 1939 register is supposed to be complete why are two of my uncles and their families are not included? They were born in 1908 and 1911 so should not be closed records.
Pay attention to were the information is from/about, not everywhere focuses on the US. Look at where you family came from. Look into websites that focus on the US.

Yearh, me too and how!
How often is the Record updated? Or is it done just when individuals die? You said that married names weren't added any more.

Does the 1939 include servicemen. My father and uncle were in the Royal airforce during this time and I have been unable to find any record

Why won't you accept alternative evidence / proof of death eg: newspaper obits, etc before opening a closed record
Correction to the previous comment - Dorothea Gillian was aged 1 year
Why is so much redacted in certain areas? For example Boldon UD has a lot of it's entries redacted , they can't all still be alive can they?
