  • Chang’e-4 lunar rover took panoramic photos of its landing site, the Von Karman Crater, located in the Aitken Basin, in the South Pole region on the far side of the Moon. Chang’e-4 (嫦娥四号) lunar mission, the lander and the rover Yutu-2 (玉兔二号, Jade Rabbit-2), landed in the crater on 3 January 2019, at 02:26 UTC (10:26 Beijing time). Communications with Earth are provided by the relay satellite Queqiao (鹊桥, Magpie Bridge).

    Did the short stop during the landing phase serve for the image analysis of the avoidance of rocks or even landing in a crater? Or was it pure luck that the lander did not land at an angle in a crater?

    • @darth856
      @darth856 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not expert, but one thing to remember is that the sky is always black on the moon, even during the day. This was probably taken when the sun would drown out any stars. Because during the freezing cold lunar nights, the rover goes into sleep mode.

    • @dmrr7739
      @dmrr7739 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Because the camera exposure is set to record the moon’s surface, which is orders of magnitude brighter than the stars. If you adjusted exposure to pick up the stars, the moon surface will become a featureless white blob.
