Control is incredible. I bought it Sunday night jumped on for a few minute to try it out before going to bed. Next thing i know, it's 2am and im texting my boss pretending to be sick :D
I had someone describe Doom: Eternal as a rhythm shooter, and I thought they were absolutely stupid. Then the next time I sat down to play it, I realized they were actually right. The flow state you get into honestly does feel like you're keeping a rhythm.
haven’t beaten it yet, on the last fight against the big dude after you get sucked into the tornado but it’s ass on hard because the whole, doing over the entire thing again doesn’t sit right with me so i benched it for now
I think people will look back at Control even a decade from now and realize how good of a game it really was. I bet even 10 years from now it'll still be very playable...
Ff7 r was one of the most amazing gaming experiences in recent memory. Such a big gamble but it was executed so well. It was also not super open worl which I really enjoyed. I miss more story based, streamlined games so it was fun to see that in ff7 r. Spent over 100 hours playing it and I’m so, so glad I did. Such an amazing game.
I would also add Returnal as well, its literally a roguelike with bullethell with psychological and Lovecraftian horror. Speaking of Control, can't wait for Alan Wake 2.
Great list, and I would have added Returnal to the honourable mentions list. Didn't reinvent the genre, but it had such a unique way of presenting the narrative to the player and had such a unique story to tell.
Yes but Returnal isn't exactly AAA, it was more of a AA game. And before you say it was a first-party Playstation game, yes that's sort of true but also no. Housemarque was acquired by Sony after Returnal came out, so Returnal was made by a then-independent developer that has only made AA (albeit really good AA) in the past. Housemarque's next game will be their first AAA game.
I would have dropped Deathloop to honorable mention. Can’t verify the budget of Returnal but between the visual polish, story and combat I think AAA is deserved.
DOOM Eternal...I beat this game on Nightmare, it pushed me to play and complete other games on their hardest difficulties. One of the greatest games I've played in my lifetime so far.
@@nathanr6381 i dont think a lot of people have enough time on their hands to beat a 10 hour campaign with permadeath on. you can save after a mission but its bugged so itll just drop you in with no weapons, basically resetting your run anyways.
Control reminded me so much of Quantum Break, just with a different set of powers. And I *loved* Quantum Break. (Love Control as well.) Control was so good that it motivated me to get the Alan Wake game to play it. (I started it years ago but never finished it. Picked up the Remaster and will be playing through it again.) I saved the Alan Wake DLC on Control. Haven't touched it yet. Won't do so until I play through Alan Wake. Then I can go back and finish Control in full.
For me: I think Red Dead Redemption 2 will always be the epitome of what story driven narratives should strive to be. I've never felt so closely connected or concerned about a character like Arthur Morgan before. He's complex and detailed. He has strengths and weaknesses. He has flaws and faults. It all comes together as the story progresses and you're left with the scars of the remains. Few developers and writers are willing to put in so much effort, detail and consistency with their characters and story and playing RDR2 was such a treat to experience. I wish I could play the game for the 1st time all over again and regain that sense of exploration and discovery.
control... and crosscode... two games that i will never understand didn't explode after years of being out there. i bought control on a whim 4 years ago and i still keep going back. great video (as always)
Elden Ring is for me probably the best video game I have ever played. It binds everything I love about a Souls game with an even deeper sense of wonder and mystery be cause of it's open world and environmental and object based story telling, that you have to explore to understand the story and all of the endings and side stories and characters. It's a game, that you feel like you can replay a hundred times and there's always something new you haven't discovered or your cause of action takes the quest in another direction.
The problem is that Elden Ring is not unique in just about anything it does. Open world? Nope. Souls like? Not even close. Weapons, armor, items, crafting, with very opaque quest design? No again. I don't hate Elden Ring, I even liked it enough to play through it three times, but I can't think of one thing that makes it unique in any way. I think from a gameplay and game design perspective Sekiro is miles ahead of Elden Ring in many ways. I don't hate it but I also don't quite understand the obscene love affair many have with it. There are games that are better than that one in my opinion, and even objectively there are many better.
Oh man, doom eternal, like the Arkham games, felt like they were made for me. Once I had an understanding of it, I became this friggin monster of the combat variety. Like taking down marauders without letting em even get a chance to swing. One of those games that just fit me like a glove, ya know?
Man Deathloop was so good. It was one of the first games I got for my ps5 and I loved the dialogue. The whole Colt /Julianna dynamic had me laughing quite a bit
hey falcon! great video, i absolutely loved control, one of the few games that managed to keep my attention long enough for me to finish it. with that being said, iterating is pronounced with i as in intern rather than i as in eye
Correct, partially - except, _"i as in eye"_ ? "Eye" has no "i" and "as in" means exactly that: *_"as in"_* so you'd pick a word that actually has an "i" *_in it,_* but is pronounced as "eye," like, for instance, "ironic" (sort of like people correcting others make mistakes, I guess, or "correcting" actual English usage based on weird American usage / Americanisms, but that's a whole other chapter and not the case here, "eye-terating" is not just wrong, but almost painfully tongue-twisting and weird, like making an extra effort just to get it wrong for some reason, since "it-erating" is easier and quicker to say). So, for (another) example, you don't say _"a, or b, or c, or d, ... or i, ... or x, or z [or any other random letter that actually isn't __*_in your example word_* you get the point, I hope] as in sky,"_ you say _"y as in sky." "Words are hard," some like to say, but languages and speech is interesting fun, in different ways, depending on whether used correctly or incorrectly; in the former case it's fun _as in_ [teasing :p] fascinating, in the latter case more as a sort of comedy of horrors, but either way, without words, language(s), and speech, we'd still only be grunting - and theories say, we (and our brains) may have never evolved beyond (grunting) animals. Obviously some evolve more than others (on individual levels, not as groups, racial or national or any other) in terms of speech and language aptitudes (and since, the theory goes, that's tied so closely to overall intellectual development and evolutionary steps, maybe in terms of overall intelligence and aptitudes as well, to some extent). (Well, this was fun; turning four little words -or five, if we include "the trigger word," that _eye-watering "eye-terating"_ into a linguistic discourse. "Leave it to me...") (PS / edit - I know you meant "i pronounced as eye," but you did write _"i as in eye"_ :)
Control was a game I loved. The gameplay and lore was really good, my only complaint was the main story which felt weak but everything else made up for it.
CONTROL, on the other hand, became one of my favorites of the generation. So fun. I stretched that game so far with how many jillions of times I went back to combat areas. Funny thing, at first I did not gel with the combat AT ALL and in fact quit the game, but restarted it because I thought the very beginning, when you're like, "Wait, where's that door I clearly saw through the glass a second ago?!", was awesome. And once I got the hang of the combat it became like all I wanted to do with my time. I didn't want the story to advance because I was worried the combat would go away or become less engaging but the opposite was true. I'd still drop whatever I was doing to play a round in that main research atrium again.
Hi Falcon! I watch this channel almost everyday, I love it, you guys are straight forward and most importantly, honest. Triple A games is a definition of a game with a larg publisher behind it and ofcourse a big budget, like, Darksouls 1-3 ;)
Love how everyone is giving control some love. It runs amazingly despite how good it looks. The game play is fun and inventive and the progression system is actually really good. They also made a female protagonist that was so likeable that no one complained about her.
Control is one of those games that you don't realy get what's happening, but it's awesome, love these kinds of games that put you into an unknown environment and constantly defies your expectations.
So glad to see Control on here. I always wanted my friends to play it so they could share in my enjoyment and they never did lol. Such a good game. (Deathloop is also so cool 👌🏻)
I actually don't mind that FF7 remake is going a different direction, so many things can change now, this can set up the series for a new ending and greater things to come.
I'm just glad FF7R has the vastly superior action RPG combat system. The fact that they're changing the story is a big bonus. Let's be frank, anyone who is interested in an Final Fantasy 7 remake in the first place is highly likely to already know the entire original FF7 story by heart. I wish other remakes would delve more into improving not just the gameplay but the story too.
@joelanderson8062 I mean they are already using atb in og FF7. The one in FF7Re is just a logical improvement from their previous games. You can move in battle and normal attack doesn't consume atb bar (FF12), "more actions per turn" (FF13), seamless walking and encounter (FF15) and now you can do normal attack faster resulting in faster non boss encounter. As for the story, I won't say anything before they are complete. Tho yeah if you compare it to Trails where even though the story is not complete yet each game still has their own great story FF7Re kinda bland if it just stand alone like that.
I LOVE that Control is on this list! Once I got the game to properly work (a yr or few after I bought it on pre-order) I played right the way through it, even the dlc. I got the 100% done. Loved playing it and can NOT wait to see what Control will be like! Hopefully as gd as the 1st 🤞🤞
Quantum Break is still an amazing (story wise) game from remedy. Control’s gameplay builds on what they put in there. I highly recommend playing it if you have an Xbox or PC. (It’s Microsoft exclusive, sorry PS)
@@immortalfrieza Hopefully ,in the future , we won’t have exclusive anymore, but Sony, Microsoft etc, want to have them to sell their consoles, but alot of the recent exclusives eventually come to PC anyway, which makes the entire point of saying they are “exclusive” void.
@@CrimsonScar-1 Hopefully. Maybe someday we'll have consoles that sell on their own merits because they provide something that's unique and worthwhile rather than because they lock particular games to particular consoles.
I wish there were other games with such atmosphere as in Control. The architecture and atmosphere just hits different than anything else. Fallout 4 had a little of that same energy exploring unexpected and uncovering interesting lore while advancing the game.
I loved Control. Even after 70+ hours of gameplay I still occasionally find a spot that I haven't discovered before or a box that I haven't opened. I still go on tier 3 expeditions from time to time.

Definitely an homage to _The Prisoner_ (1960s British sci-fi series) what with the island setting and the 1960s modernist styles/decor/OST.
Nier Automata is my favorite game of all time. I wish I could erase my memory just so I could play it again.
Ive heard only good reviews about Control before, but now after seeing it in this ranking I'm 100% certain that I wanna play it ❤ Thank you Gameranx!
Control was such a fun game I hope to replay it one day
Control is a fantastic piece of art and action. David Lynch meets Uncharted. I was encouraged to see it in the top 5.
I absolutely LPOVED the Hybrid style of Final Fantasy VII Remake Falcon, it was SO GOOD, can't wait for Rebirth :)
👌👍🏼
haven’t beaten it yet, on the last fight against the big dude after you get sucked into the tornado but it’s ass on hard because the whole, doing over the entire thing again doesn’t sit right with me so i benched it for now
playing the new game + with all the ablitys and counter stance feels like devil may cry sometimes
Nope.
Control and Nier Automota are by far Masterpieces
I think people will look back at Control even a decade from now and realize how good of a game it really was. I bet even 10 years from now it'll still be very playable...
Loved control, eagerly waiting for the sequel.
👆🏻 same here
Something almost anything but a mobile game 😆
@Alfred Dominguez they actually have hiring up on there website for the 2nd game
Returnal needs an extra special mention on this list
It's just another roguelike.
Whats unique about it?
Returnal would’ve been a nice fit in this list as well. Great pics, Falcon
While I didn't fall in love with it Returnal definitely deserves a mention
Ff7 r was one of the most amazing gaming experiences in recent memory. Such a big gamble but it was executed so well. It was also not super open worl which I really enjoyed. I miss more story based, streamlined games so it was fun to see that in ff7 r. Spent over 100 hours playing it and I’m so, so glad I did. Such an amazing game.
The first Dark Souls cost $25 million to make. That is definitely 100% AAA. It doesn't matter what you consider AAA, it is all about the budget.
5 years ago feels like 2014, but it's actually 2018
I would also add Returnal as well, its literally a roguelike with bullethell with psychological and Lovecraftian horror. Speaking of Control, can't wait for Alan Wake 2.
Control was such an amazing game. I loved every minute of it
Great list, and I would have added Returnal to the honourable mentions list.
I absolutely LOVED Control, from the gameplay to the story. Best free game PS+ has offered. And the Ashtray Maze level, *chef kiss*
DOOM Eternal...I beat this game on Nightmare, it pushed me to play and complete other games on their hardest difficulties. One of the greatest games I've played in my lifetime so far.
ayy nice one. Ultra nightmare next? Finished it a while back and the sense of acomplishment is something else. You can do it
@@nathanr6381 i dont think a lot of people have enough time on their hands to beat a 10 hour campaign with permadeath on. you can save after a mission but its bugged so itll just drop you in with no weapons, basically resetting your run anyways.
This was a video I didn’t want to end. I’m adding Control to my wishlist rn.
Awesome list Falcon! Recently played Control and has quickly become one of my favourite games. The tone and atmosphere are unique in my opinion.
Control reminded me so much of Quantum Break, just with a different set of powers. And I *loved* Quantum Break. (Love Control as well.)
Control was so good that it motivated me to get the Alan Wake game to play it. (I started it years ago but never finished it. Picked up the Remaster and will be playing through it again.)
I saved the Alan Wake DLC on Control. Haven't touched it yet. Won't do so until I play through Alan Wake. Then I can go back and finish Control in full.
Console or PC ?
@@dzangam1879
I play on all platforms. But for this game I am playing on console.
Gameranx dropping vids Every day like its christmas! Lets gooooooo thanks guys!
Makes me SO HAPPY to see monster hunter world on this list it definitely got me into the monster hunter franchise I've put sooo many hours into it
Really happy to see control in this list. I love this game
About halfway through this list started getting good, stuff like Control, DL and DS are very unique, idk about the first few picks tho
Crazy how many list vids are on TH-cam and somehow I never get tired of you guys!
Oh man, doom eternal, like the Arkham games, felt like they were made for me. Once I had an understanding of it, I became this friggin monster of the combat variety. Like taking down marauders without letting em even get a chance to swing. One of those games that just fit me like a glove, ya know?
Sad that remakes and sequels qualify as unique AAA games these days
So, for (another) example, you don't say _"a, or b, or c, or d, ... or i, ... or x, or z [or any other random letter that actually isn't __*_in your example word_* you get the point, I hope] as in sky,"_ you say _"y as in sky."
"Words are hard," some like to say, but languages and speech is interesting fun, in different ways, depending on whether used correctly or incorrectly; in the former case it's fun _as in_ [teasing :p] fascinating, in the latter case more as a sort of comedy of horrors, but either way, without words, language(s), and speech, we'd still only be grunting - and theories say, we (and our brains) may have never evolved beyond (grunting) animals.
"Leave it to me...")
(PS / edit - I know you meant "i pronounced as eye," but you did write _"i as in eye"_ :)
Glad to see deathloop on this list. I know it was divisive but I loved it.
Definitely feel the same way about DEATHLOOP!
I really think Control is so underrated. And people dont talk about it much. Its freaking amazing game.
Cant wait for the Control sequel, that games world building was refreshing
Hi Falcon! I watch this channel almost everyday, I love it, you guys are straight forward and most importantly, honest.
Triple A games is a definition of a game with a larg publisher behind it and ofcourse a big budget, like, Darksouls 1-3 ;)
I love doom eternal :)
Its one of the top games
Love how everyone is giving control some love. It runs amazingly despite how good it looks. The game play is fun and inventive and the progression system is actually really good. They also made a female protagonist that was so likeable that no one complained about her.
👌👍🏼
Love these vids! You guys always help me find good games to try (like Control and Nier Automata)
Glad you like them!
Control is one of the best games I've played in my entire life!
Control is one of those games that you don't realy get what's happening,
but it's awesome, love these kinds of games that put you into an unknown environment
and constantly defies your expectations.
Control's level design has some marvelous moments
So glad to see Control on here. I always wanted my friends to play it so they could share in my enjoyment and they never did lol. Such a good game. (Deathloop is also so cool 👌🏻)
Yo friends is missin out, once I told my mama that it's connected to Alan wake, she hooked finally after years of tryna get her interested
Was expecting to see Returnal make the list. Either way, I'm not mad at this list. All very good and unique games.
I actually don't mind that FF7 remake is going a different direction, so many things can change now, this can set up the series for a new ending and greater things to come.
Agree it would have been predictable if it was a straight up remake, noting wrong with it but nice to get some different surprises.
Sekiro with its own battle system alone IS AAA and unique, not speaking how it is also FromSoft game. Its one of the best FromSoft games.
Arthur Morgan feels left out
Ghost of Tsushima (2020) felt very UNIQUE to me, even though nothing was really new...
My main takeaways here is that apparently seq of thieves is AAA
but Sekiro and Darksouls 3 arent
I wish FromSoft would remake the King's Field games,
as Elden Ring style games.
gameranx making my boy record a VO when he’s sick 😂
Quantum Break is still an amazing (story wise) game from remedy.
Control’s gameplay builds on what they put in there.
I highly recommend playing it if you have an Xbox or PC.
(It’s Microsoft exclusive, sorry PS)
Exclusives should be a crime.
@@CrimsonScar-1 Go with streaming then and the pool of hardware will be bigger.
Thank you for an amazing video 🫶❤️🔥
Our pleasure!
The dark souls games absolutely are triple a games
I love god of war 2018 it’s really awesome and tons of fun
I loved Control. Even after 70+ hours of gameplay I still occasionally find a spot that I haven't discovered before or a box that I haven't opened. I still go on tier 3 expeditions from time to time.
They truly were unique, for their time, and still are now.
Doom Eternal and Monster Hunter: World were probably the two biggest surprises for me! I poured hours and hours into both of those games and ended up loving them. Final Fantasy and some of the others I expect quality but its always nice when you are surprised in a positive way. That said - DINO CRISIS OR BUST!!!
I’ve been playing Deathloop. Engaged me no end. I’ve not finished it yet as I got distracted but such a great premise and game play
👌
i’ll get my hands on it after finally grabbing a ps5 this friday. looks so fun and different from the usual main story driven zombie games i’ve been playing recently. anything i should look out for?
you should check out gameranx video “Top 15 NEW Upcoming Games”
I just finished Control for the first time and man what a game!!!!!
Love you falcon
❤️🦅
Control is full stop one of the best games ever made.
Control is a masterpiece.
I discovered Control by accident, got it free on the Epic games store I think. One of my favourite games ever. I liked it so much I'll probably buy it on another platform just so I can give the developers some money haha
He says about ff7 remake "you could just do what kingdom hearts does"
Later in the list: kingdom hearts
How is Elden Ring unique....From Software literally just makes the same game over and over lol
Oh surprise, this list coincides with more of the most memorable/better AAA titles. Great list btw.
Thanks!
