Trick - Roll Over

Here is a quick video of how to go about training your dog to do the fun trick of Rolling Over!
- Begin with your dog in a down position, ideally on a comfortable surface like a mat or carpet.
- Hold a treat near your dog's nose (lure) and slowly move it towards their shoulder, encouraging them to roll their hip and then lower their shoulder to lie on their side.
- As your dog begins to shift their weight and follows the treat with their head, mark each step of the behaviour with a clicker or a verbal marker like "yes" and reward them with the treat.
- Once they have succeeded on lying on their side continue to move the treat to their shoulder so that they follow with their nose
- As they follow the treat they will life their front legs and then back end to roll over to their other side
- Mark and reward when they succeed
- After a few sessions of luring with food, start fading the lure by removing the food from your hand and guiding them with your empty hand to Mark and Reward once they have Rolled over
- Add a verbal cue only once they are easily rolling over with a simple physical hand signal/Cue
- Verbal cue 'Roll Over' followed by your Physical 'hand cue'
