    Hey Dan, writing from socal here. I already have a penn jig master 500s that I'm gonna spool with 20lb. Now I'm looking for a bit beefier rig for YT, probably 30#+. Any good combos you would suggest for under 200$ (on a tight budget). I've been looking at the Penn Squall and Warfare but I m afraid the Warfare might be too light. What would yo recommend? Again, I'm just looking for a general rod/reel that can add some strength when the jig master is too light. Thanks :)

    Thank you Dan.It seems as if your not sponsored by a reel company Like penn Accurate ect...... It makes it hard to talk about reels and models, I appreciate you trying to give us an idea of the type of reel to use without having to mention names. You have plenty of followers online,there are plenty of people that watch your shows too! It's time for a company to talk business with you. I HAVE FAITH IN WHAT YOU USE AND USUALLY BUY WHAT YOU RECOMMEND YOU HAVE A TOP REPUTATION. Thanks again Dan your friend from Tijuana

      I have not had a fishing reel sponsor in over six years. As a rule I just don't like to push one brand over another and I would prefer you visit your local Turner's Outdoorsman store and see all the reels that are out there on the market.

    I heard in the video you said to use spectra, and then put mono on top of that. How much braid should be enough for catching rock fish or yellows, and how much mono would you attach to the braid?

    • @dansportfishing
      @dansportfishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For just rock fishing I wouldn't add any more mono than you need for our set up, maybe six feet? for yellows you can do the same thing, except if the yellows are on the surface, use floro and not mono.

    Don, I'm running into a bit of a prob. Delta Airlines will charge me a mint for any fishing rod tube over 62" when I fly into Calif. That means most 1-piece rods are out. Can you recommend a 2- or 3-piece rod for yellowtail? Oh and BTW, is there anywhere between San Diego and Moro Bay, where yellows can be caught from shore? I've heard they can be caught from cliffs or piers at times.

    • @dansportfishing
      @dansportfishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You might get lucky and catch one from a pier, but I wouldn't plan a trip around having that happen. You can always rent gear at the local landings.

    Would this setup work? 🎣
    Thanks a million

    • @dansportfishing
      @dansportfishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sure that would work, but you don't need to spend money on a two speed reel for yellowtail. That reel is better for tuna fishing.

    Hey dan
    Everyone says hooks are 1/0-5/0 are good for yellowtail but what size is the best? Also, what hook size is good for Dorado

    • @dansportfishing
      @dansportfishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      they all will work, but it all depends on your bait. fishing for tuna, yellowtail or dorado you could use a #2 hook with anchovies, 1/0-3/0 with sardines and a 5/0-6/0 with mackerel. You need to match your hook size to the size of our bait, not the fish you want to catch.
