Just want to thank Eoin again for coming in and showing us this amazing Soda Bread Recipe. It's a serious weapon, you could feed a family for a week off a loaf. We used whole food ingredients to add extra fibre extra oomph!
Sorry we don't have a written recipe for this! We're currently working on an updated and improved version which will feature in our new book (to be launched in Spring 2018)... So please bear with us until then!
All the best,
Dave & Steve.

Thanks for this
Thanks
200 C is 392 F
Great. Thank you.
Thank you, not sure why the Knuckleheaded pair didn't put it down...
Soda bread is actually one of the few things I walk by in the shop and think "oh I miss that" so I'm proper chuffed about this :D Thanks guys!
Buttermilk - After cream has been removed from milk, leaving skimmed milk, the cream is put into a churn and churned. The butter is made and what is left is buttermilk.
My mother made butter sometimes as we had a farm.
My grandparents had happy goats it was wonderful
My seven year old son had a fun time making this today! We are really enjoying all of your recipes! Thanks
Ah brilliant when the kids get involved!! Love it!! 😄😋🙌
Yo! I swear this has to be the FIRST vegan bread recipe that I've seen on TH-cam that actually looks good!! Good on you!
I've tried so many of your recipes!! Thanks for being awesome :D
Thankyouthankyou for the support Rachel dude! Big love 💚💚💚
I made this today as per the recipe and it was nice but very dense. So straight away i made it again with 500g of spelt flour instead of 600g of wholemeal as the dough was very heavy prior.Ill comment once cooled with how its turned oit!😊
Let us know how it is Adrienne! 😄😋🙌
...and it hasn't cooled to this day...
I wanted to see if anyone had commented trying with spelt flour. Has anyone? I love the recipe but I do like spelt flour and Kamut if anyone has tried either!
Just made this in a modified gluten-free version, SO awesome! Thank you!
Love your Irish accents 💖
Irish bread, when I stayed in Sligo I had a migraine after a long day of travelling. I was given some Irish bread, boom, migraine gone!!
Something so wholesome about the way the two dudes hype the guy up.
To anyone who wants to make this bread: DON'T use 20g of bicarbonate of soda! The bread tastes so much of it, it's disgusting! Use 1 small tsp.
And instead of a milk alternative (if you don't have access to it) you can use water and instead of lemon juice you can put in about 2 tsp of apple cider vinegar.
Also, use 500g of flour. I also had to bake it a lot longer - but it depends on the oven.
That way it tastes nice.
was just going to say the same thing i can feel the soda in my throat!! lol :)
@Unfiltered it's for the "egg binding agent" you can substitute almost any "egg" you like
Thanks for the added info
Hannah Plas wish I knew that sooner ffs
I put in the small tsp and it was much better this time and it didn't affect the bread any other way that I could tell. I reduced the flour to 500g but not the liquid so it was still a bit moist when I cut it. I will try reducing to 250ml and leave it in the oven longer. I had left it in for 60 minutes this time so will try an additional 15.
"St. Patrick would be proud of that".....I'm dying! hilarious every time!
OMG that's awesome, a quick bread recipe, need to try this. Here in Germany is everything about the yeast, it's lovely but thakes its time, you know what I mean! Love your energy dudes 😀👍
My husband is our bread maker - and it is WONDERFUL! Can't wait to have him make this :)
Closest soda bread to my great granny’s in blarney, loving the fact that it’s vegan
Thank you!!
I like how you guys always explain stuff like if the ingredients are interchangeable or how they work
My mom used to make this for us after she had been to Ireland! Yummy=) Winter is here in NZ so that would go great with soup. I would like to see if I could do a gluten free version with buckwheat, rice flour and almond meal. If that's a fail I will have to make it your way, I love that stuff! Thanks so much for the recipe guys!
Absolutely!! love the simplicity of the ingredients. Thank you guys. Guess what I will be doing at the weekend?
I am soooo glad you did this. now I can make a much loved bread I can eat and enjoy.
Ah super delighted to help Casey! 😄👍🙌
You lads have definitely changed the way I eat. I went back to being vegetarian and now am mostly vegan, and your recipes really help me keep it nutritional and delicious! I've been using so many of your recipes on TH-cam I thought it was only fair to buy your book. I'll buy the second one soon 😀
wow that looks really easy to make. Will definitely be baking some soda bread this weekend ☺
I've made this bread a couple of times now. It's delicious and so easy to make! Thank you so much for the fantastic recipes! Love you guys x
Ah super stuff keep up the fab work! 😄👍🙌
Soda bread is so yummy! Awesome!
We think this one tops the lot- healthy AND delicious!!!!
The Happy Pear Got any barbeque pork rib recipes? Chicken would be great too.
I just made this and omg 🥰 excellent. I did half white flour though
yummmm. fresh bread is the best
It really was DIVINE, Sarah!!! 😍😍😍
Awesome! I’ve been looking for a fast vegan bread recipe for a while and this fits the bill perfectly:)
Does a chia egg work as well?
Love your content, guys!! ;)
I had to add more vegan type milk to mine and cook it longer b/e I made it too thick I suspect. Love the recipe. Many thx from Chicago.
Hey Chicago, fellow-Illinois baker here.
Vegan Soda bread that's soooooo SCRUMMY :-) thanks a million for sharing Dave and Steve and Eoin and sending you guys tons of love and heaps of happiness and oodles of Plant Power from Waterford to Greystones and have a FANTASTIC evening ahead XXXX
Wow, this bread looks superb!
I hv tried the recipe, however it turned out to be a little bitter. Do I really need to add 20g of baking soda? Thank you so much.
What can I use to sub out the wholemeal flour? I am gluten free. Which gluten free flour would you recommend? Thanks! Love you guys!
I'm going to make it tomorrow. Looks delicious and sweet as the three of you ❤❤❤
For sure going to try this!!😊
Do it dude!!! Let us know how you get on 😉😉
I know I'm late to the party, but would it be ok to add the lemon juice to the plant milk before mixing the wet/dry ingredients?
So simple. Must have a go.
ROCKIN'! Sunday morning brunch material!!!
Can you cook that in a air fryer? Cheers
We love air fryers and we'd love to say absolutely. We haven't tested it but I can't see why not.
tried this recipe yesterday using spelt wholemeal, took the bread out of the oven after just over 25mins, thought it sounded hollow but when I cut it open it was still doughy in the middle. So next time will leave it in an extra 5-10 mins.
You Irish boys are just great (my mum was Irish). I'm going to bake this bread today.
You're just brill Anne, good on ya! 😄👍🙌
I'm curious about the lemon juice. I've seen buttermilk substitutions where they've added directly to the nut milk and waited for it to start curdling. Is that not needed for this recipe or is it not needed at all?
an acid is needed to react with the soda, I use ACV instead of lemon, and only water, no milk at all
Did you let it rise after making dough? Did I miss that?
Yo Lads! The cross on the soda bread is to "let the fairies out of the bread" ! great recipe , can't wait to try it....
I thought it was to let the devil out.
Good Evening from Canada,
Thank you very much for sharing. A Excellent Video. Highly Recommended..Can you please tell me if I could use buckwheat flour and not whole wheat flour? Buckwheat is the healthiest to eat. Thank you
Give it a go and let us know what you think! 😄👍🙌
Can any whole grain flour be used in this recipe...spelt, rye, etc? This looks SO delicioso!!!
Looks delicious. Wish you would add the recipe in the notes.
thanks for this inspiration. going to give this a go later
Very beautiful 😍 Rustic Vegan soda bread 🍞 yummmm yummy 😋 yummmm 👍👌🤩
I know Ur a girl with the amount f emojis u used
Can I make this as a mix of dry ingredients to give as a gift or will that make it weird?
Can’t wait to try this guy is, you could’ve put the lemon juice in the milk. Thanks
oooh would love if if you guys could make some vegan hot cross buns!! been craving them like crazy
Johanna Ellen hot cross buns are vegan😬
Found this recipe looking for another soda bread recipe and will stick to the vegan method from now on! Was lovely with my homemade blackberry jam using frozen berries I gotta use up with the new season more or less here! :)
Ah delighted you enjoyed! Well done with the jam fair play! 😄🙌🙌
Wow, you're one of the few people who made this and actually liked it. Did you follow the recipe or make some changes? Thanks!
Yasss!💪 I've been waiting for this soo long. Time to get back the Ireland-feels😅
Hi guys, love all your videos and recipes: thank you xx would you be able to make ‘Yorkshire Pudding’, I can’t quite get it right and would appreciate some guidance! Thank you xx 😊
omg I don't know what's sexier their accents or the fact that they're vegan ♡♡♡♡
Mariah Estrada come to Ireland, all men where they are from talk like that
Just made it following the video....it's quite dense & not so 'fluffy' any ideas where I went wrong?
You got me excited. Can you do a Northern Irish soda bread next. ;)
This looks great, but my soda breads often end up gummy, so I've taken to using an internal thermometre. Do you know what the appropriate internal temp of this bread should be when done?
This looks amazing.Thanks
Glad you enjoy Adrienne! 😄🙌😋
Be awesome if Eoin could come back and do more videos 🍞
Lovely stuff, lads. Any tips for a gluten-free version? Would I just replace the flour, or would it be more involved than that? Love the videos. xoxo :)
Can i use baking powder?
1. Traditional soda bread does not have to have eggs in it. I've watched quite a few videos of Irish grannies making their versions, not one used eggs. Just flour, salt, baking soda, some sugar and buttermilk.
2. Buttermilk is not milk that has gone off. It's the liquid part of milk left over when you make fresh butter. You can also make it by add a little lemon juice or vinegar to fresh milk and leave it to cause separation.
I don't call myself a chef, just a home cook, but I do like to research facts.
Yes!
Hi guys, I tried making this as my first ever attempt at bread :) after 30 minutes it was very doughy inside, almost like glue when pulled apart. After a further 10 minutes it was better but it tasted like flour and was very doughy. Do you know what I may have done wrong?
I had the same issue. I think 600 is way too much flour for this recipe. I tried a different recipe on the web that was pretty much the same but with only 500g and it was a little sticky when it went in the oven but instead of adding more flour I just stuck it in the oven and it turned out perfect. Moral of the story when it comes to soda bread, if it tastes like flour you’ve used too much. Use less next time and don’t worry if it’s too sticky, it’ll be fine 😉
In the Gordon Ramsay soda bread video, after he mixes all ingredients, he flours his board and shapes the bread and it’s not sticky when going in the oven so, maybe that’s how you can add less flour and not have it be as wet prior to baking.
Same issue for me. I thought 600 was a lot and Eoin’s bowl really didn’t look like it had 600 g in it. But I carried on and it rose but was quite dense. I might experiment again with half a recipe, so as not to waste too much.
Please make healthy vegan jollof rice! Love u guys
Thanks for the suggestion, Fabienne dude, we'll put it on the list! 😆
Beer bread would be so good!
Thanks fellas! I am definitely making this one of my staples!!
Hey fellas! Where can I find the written/typed recipe?
Hi guys dropping in after the lean mean lockdown years when I managed to knit an epic jumper and did not learn how to make sourdough ,..... however I got this one down pat. Warm regards and tx as always and in advance happy st paddy's day .... always tempted to watch Finnigan;s Rainbow because my sis on a brief overnight stay in Dublin was determined to get out and find a leprechaun ..... those were the days. Still vegan and thriving think ethics do come into it also like my friend in Sao Paolo get a chance in the am to do some wild swimming on the shores of Lake Huron.
Hey dudes .... thanks for the recipe ..... I have waited a long time and finally it is now there my favorite bread in vegan ... maybe I come tomorrow morning early .... I come from germany and make three days of vacation :))
Ronny
really want to make this! Do you think I can use whole wheat flour?
Would you please list this ingredients in-cups and tea/fable spoon measurements. Thank you 🙏
any tips on what flour to use if making it gluten free?!
I would love to see your take on seitan if you haven't made it already 😍
Can I use apple cider vinegar instead of lemon juice? If yes how much?
Sure just sub the same amount 😄👍
I only wish I had had this recipe for St. Paddy's Day! :( Love that there is no sugar--here in the States, the version my family makes is very sweet, between the sugar and the raisins--really more like a dessert or sweet breakfast bread and probably not too healthy. Also would love if you could do a hearty gluten-free version. I'm going to experiment with oat flour. Thanks so much for all your great recipes and videos!
It turned out pretty good, but I had a lot of trouble getting the dough to really bind together... any suggestions?
Wow super easy! Thanks
What a treat!! Thank you guys!!
I would love if you guys could do a gluten-free version of this bread!
Take it you just add so much of the rest of the milk as long as it stays pretty dry, need to try it again with less milk
you guys defo should try Vegan Spanish Omelette (with chickpeas flour mixed with cold water instead of eggs ) . you will kill it guys!
OMG!!!! Delighted to see this!
Wow that's easy!
Took me a little more than 5 min. to prep... With only one pear of hands :-)
It's in the oven now, so keeping my fingers crossed.
This is a god send ! Honestly the food I miss being vegan
Could you guys make a rice pudding video please? 💕
We'll put it on the list for sure Sasha 😆😆
ooohh yes that would be amazing
Sasha J a rice pudding made with coconut milk, a wee bit of lime zest and a spritz of lime juice is AMAZING!
LOOKS AMAZING!!!
Vegan dough nuts next!!!
They're on the way Emer 😉😉
Emer Murphy Jamie Oliver has a really good vegan donut recipe I've made it loads of time!
Any idea why the seeds into the bread turned green after just half a day? Is it a chemical reaction from soda?
Hey would coconut milk work too instead of rice milk?
This is so helpful, thanks!
Can you freeze some slices?
Would spelt flour work?
Hermi I wanted to ask about buckwheat flour too :) would it work??
spelt flour works too, have done similar recipe, but instead of lemon juice I use ACV
Spelt works, confirmed
instead of a flaxseed egg can a regular egg replacer work?
If you used a sweetened dairy free milk would it make the bread too sweet?..
i wonder what happend with the other 50 % of the almondmilk?
It didn’t get used, the amount of liquid depends on how much the flour will absorb. 😊
I’m confused I’m afraid. Do you put in half or was it 250ml initially? Thanks
Calan Campbell it was 350ml, they didn’t put it all in because it didn’t need all 350ml. I made the same recipe and my mixture needed more than 350ml. It depends on how much liquid your flour will absorb. You need to feel for it.
Hi! Could I use whole spelt for this recipe?
Finding it hard to find any flour so could I use plain will it turn out ok
You can, it might vary a little, but experimenting is all part of the fun of baking. If you're ever struggling to find flour, blending up oats very fine is a great flour.
Made it with plain flour ..... never again it was horrible to claggy
