Just my observation, but the lady in the sketch appears to be wearing the fashion of the early 1800s. The Empire line dress, shawl and very dainty slippers. But this is a fascinating analysis of the painting and sketch. I became interested in art whilst doing an Access course and I still love it to this day. I think one doesn’t just look at a painting, one READS it as well. Fabulous!
This is such a fascinating presentation. I have a couple of questions. If Actaeon has been turned into a stag in this picture, is Diana protecting him from the hounds by holding him close, or is she about to deliver him to their jaws?
Hi there, neither I think. Remember this is an allegory. Diana is crowning the stage implying that she is forgiving it, but she closes not to reverse the metamorphosis. regards David
Gives new meaning to, "Oh Romeo Romeo where art thou Romeo?" My theory is Elizabeth had her Love of her life's children, just wisked away to an out of the way estate when the babies were starting to show. Babies raised by another with provisions for the child and the child's keeper by the Queen in Quiet. Her ladies, (a couple of them) in waiting would not have said one word ... They knew her since they were all small children and were loyal to her .... Back in those times one would have to hide the truth to protect one's self and love ones. Silence n loyalty were key factors to survival.... Just my theory. Elizabeth was a very intelligent strong Lady.

At 11:51: at about the very center of the painting toward the top, I make out in the pattern of the fabric a 3/4 face of a man with a thick, sort of long mustache and a slim line of beard in the center of the chin. I see suggestion of the man’s shoulders and torso. Just pareidolia, maybe. Perhaps related to how the photo/painting displays on my screen.
Are there other instances of Hampton Court refusing permission for a painting to be seen/ photograped/ examined by experts...if so, what are the reasons given ?
Getting a strange echo of Peter Greenaway’s equally arcane movie ‘The Draftsman’s Contract’ ... The same motif of accurate drawings of a big house revealing mysterious secrets... well worth seeking out if this presentation piques your fancy....
Could it not be a lament for a lost love and the family they never had? The cut off branch being a family line that never was but could have been? Which bit definitively (or most strongly) suggests that there were actual children?
Hello Heath, yes you are right. I explained this in the original Pregnancy portrait video and also in the first part of the one on Henry Wriothesley. Regards David
I've wondered about Elizabeth's secret elite descendant(s) and their possible connections to freemasonry maybe incl the Rothschild etc. I was told in 1980 that bacon was Liz and Dudleys child and main writer of Shakespeare (he still could have been involved in de Vere's work) and he was of the Rosy Cross. Are there Wrothley or Bacon descendants involved in this pregnancy portrait (how could anyone miss that?) I've mentioned before of my strong belief that Essex acted like a spoiled brat wanting to be recognized as her heir. You are a man after my own heart. Your attention to detail and clear expression of it is so welcome and I very much appreciate your work.

@@davidshakespeare1767 Hi, David, I wasn't meaning you were incorrect, i just thought the "heartsease" version was significant because it has more symbolic value.
Hi Martin, No I don't. I tried looking up black precious and semi precious stones and there are lots of them, so I elected to just described them as black! regards David
An interesting hypothesis, perhaps they will allow the painting to be x rayed some day and ultimately cleaned of its clumsy overpainting. I would say it was done not because of clues in the background, but because visual tastes change - the fashion being for wild landscapes late 18c not flowery bowers. If Elizabeth really did have secret children, where were the pretenders coming out of the woodwork when she died or the courtiers who talked once she was safely buried? James had no particular loyalty to his cousin Liz as far as I am aware but would have been interested in removing any opposition, illegitimate or otherwise (if there was proof of a secret marriage as well as progeny).
I would like that too cause my dads mother married her cousin (idk which kind of cousin, like first or second 🤷🏻) and he’s the father of all her kids, including my dad. Also her dad was native and so was her mom but we don’t know what tribe nor anything about his past. My brother and I believe him or his father may have been a victim of those schools that forced natives to conform to Christianity/Catholicism and speak English, basically beat their culture out of them.
Can you please say "drawing" in stead of "drawring" there is NO such word, NO R , total affectation. "behavior, speech, or writing that is artificial and designed to impress." I wonder who might be impressed by silly wrong pronunciation???
Absolutely fascinating. Thank you so much
31:08 I agree. If you can't sign you name to your own will, Will, you can't write plays.

It's simply British pronunciation.
