Ik vind dat Nederland het op veel dingen goed doet, maar er gaan net zoveel dingen hier verkeerd.

I'm from England but left there 50 years ago. My family moved to the Netherlands and then to the U.S. But, I'm still proud to be English. I have a lot of family there. This was an interesting video to see Dutch people's perspective of their country and being Dutch.
I'm from the UK (northern England) and don't have any particular fondness for my country. Brexit, the state of the NHS, the malpractice of our current government, and the general feeling that things are going downhill all play a part in that. For what it's worth, I spend most days wishing I lived in NL. I'm going next month for the fourth time in a year and can't wait. We could learn so much from you guys. Keep the videos coming. Ik zat een keer in een les over Nederlandse cultuur met zowel Nederlanders als buitenlanders en deze vraag werd ook gestelt. En eigenlijk waren alle Nederlanders het eens dat we niet echt trots zijn op Nederland of het Nederlander zijn maar alle buitenlanders waren allemaal super trots op hun eigen land, dat was wel heel apart en grappig.

Ik ben duitser en identificeer me met vele meningen van de mensen. Ik heb de indruk dat ook de meesten mensen de trots zijn nederlanders te zijn niet extreem nationalistisch zijn en praktische reden hebben. Ik persoonlijk denk zoals de man met de belgische moeder of de vrouw de het niet belangrijk vind en niet speciaaler wil zijn dan de anderen. De grensen zijn vaak een goed voorbeeld dat ze vaak een beetje absurd zijn: platte land met een riviertje en koeien, elkene aan een kant en andere aan de andere.

I think as a Dutch American, that hasn’t lived there since age 7, I’m more proud to be both Dutch and American than any of these folks. I’m still pretty fluent and could understand every word as we spoke it at home growing up.

I am also Dutch American!!! I have only been to America once but I feel the same. I feel very proud to be a part of both of these nations
Many Dutch people are wary of nationalism because of WW2, I think most Dutch people are proud to be Dutch in the sense that they feel a connection with eachother, are glad to live in a free and relatively wealthy country and because of the language and football of course, but we look at the US and places like France and the extreme nationalism there and how it contributes to polarization so many Dutch people prefer to keep it to being proud but also feeling a connection to nations close to us. Like the gentleman in the video with double nationality, and for example my girlfriends parents live near the German border, work in Germany and probably have more German than Dutch friends. So in those places it is seen like a bit weird to be overly nationalist all the time. Also keep in mind there are a lot of regional identities too, that sometimes are more important. Like being Frisian, or Limburgish, or belonging to a certain religion.

The gentlemen with the dark grey/greenish jacket and the one with the blue jacket (in front of H&M) have interesting answers. I like that they do not have a nationalistic pride because that connects with a whole different meaning. I would never say I'm proud of my country or being [x] because of the dark horrible history that the country has done. You can say you are glad to live where you are but putting allegiance to a government and country is never a thing I'd ever do.
Nou, ik kom uit Duitsland en natuurlijk hou ik van mijn land maar het is geen liefde in de zin van trots, maar meer liefde voor wat we hebben bereikt sinds de vorige eeuw. Duitsland is vandaag een democratie met vrije verkiezingen. We hebben vrijheid van meningsuiting, vrijheid van godsdienst en het homohuwelijk is hier legaal. Dit zijn de echte redenen waarom ik van mijn land hou en Nederland was zeker ook een geweldig rolmodel en een belangrijke vriend voor deze transitie. Er is nog zoveel te leren over Nederland maar met jullie fantastische video's kom ik elke maand een stukje dichter bij mijn doel. 🥨🧡🌷

Wij Nederlanders zijn erg nuchter, wij zullen het niet van de daken schreeuwen zoals andere culturen, bijv Amerikanen. En daar ben ik trots op, die nuchterheid. Ik ben Nederland alleen maar meer gaan waarderen sinds ik geëmigreerd ben.
De Nederlanders zijn inderdaad nuchter, maar ik vind het moeilijk om te zeggen of ik dit positief of negatief vind. Aan de ene kant ben ik zelf geen fan van overdreven nationalisme, maar aan de andere kant mis ik wel wat enthousiasme en ik vind een beetje patriottisme wel goed.
Zeer interessant onderwerp. Ik ben in Californië en ik vraag me af waar de man was die denkt dat we allemaal onze vlaggen uithangen. Misschien was hij hier 4 juli.

Ik ben trots op een Amerikaans mannetje te zijn, omdat ik zie het land heel mooi uit, ik vind het cultuur ook wel leuk omdat het divers is, er zijn veel mensen met veel verschillende religieuze achtergronden.
Hi 🙂, pride is a feeling - you can feel anyway you want - no problem.. I tend to be irritated when people are feeling "proud" of someting that would be about the same without them. I'd expect them to feel glad etc. Just being part of a group of several hundred million human beings, living in a certain country, being born there by accident .... why proud?
@@netlang well, proud is the feeling you feel for other people, right? I am proud to be one small part of a country where people overcame adversity, and accomplished brilliant things, I’m proud of my neighbors, and of my community, to be a part of it is an honor, it’s like being a part of a nice educational institution, it doesn’t mean you’re a part of the only institution, it doesn’t mean you’re necessarily always the “greatest” institution, but you’re “proud” regardless because it’s the feeling you get when you are a part of something greater than yourself, and have a certain gratitude for that, and what it has done for you, I didn’t choose my nation of birth, or my native language, and I haven’t really chosen many things, but I don’t see a reason why the results of chance can’t be something you’re proud of.

Could you please help me to test my ears and tell what is the native language of Tim? I saw his Russian videos and thought he grew up with German, but was confused by pronunciation of German names. Now I see that Dutch video, but I still hear more a flat melody as in Plattdeutsch rather than Nederlands… thank you very much! Just linguistic curiosity

Er is een verschil tussen de vraag ben je trots op nl of ben je trots om nl te zijn
Ik kom uit Australië en ik zou niet zeggen dat ik er trots op ben een Aussie te zijn, daar onze politiek zo verschrikkelijk kut is en de regering maakt altijd slechte beslissingen over de toekomst van het land en alles wat groene, duurzame energie betreft. Ze maken ons milieu helemaal kapot. Maar ik ben zeker blij en gelukkig dat ik hier geboren ben, want het land zelf -ik bedoel de landschappen, de stranden, de bergen, the Bush and Outback, de vogels en dieren, de eucalypts en acacias-, al dat vind ik echt heel leuk. En er zijn wat vriendelijke warme mensen ook. Maar ik kon heel viel positieve dingen over Nederland ook zeggen. Weet toch niks van de regering op het ogenblik daarheen.

Mensen, die in de eerste wereld geboren zijn, die niettemin gewoon niet willen zeggen, dat ze er trots op zijn...dat is heel gek, vind ik. Zelfs de mensen, die uit Somalië komen, kunnen misschien zeggen, dat ze hun land lieven, het is heel jammer dat de Europeanen gewoon niet kunnen zeggen, dat ze blij zijn dat ze in zo'n goede samenleving wonen, en dat ze zich tenminste dankbaar voelen.

Ik heb nooit begrepen waarom men "trots" moet zijn op zijn vaderland. Ik ben het absoluut eens met de vrouw van 3:30.
Het is geen prestatie maar puur toeval in welk land ik geboren ben. Dit maakt mij geen beter of slechter mens dan anderen.

Het geschiedenis onderwijs is de de laatste 25j alleen maar slechter geworden en op die manier is de binding met het verleden van Nederland steeds zwakker geworden.
Ik denk dat de overgrote meerderheid de ontstaansgeschiedenis van Nederland niet eens in detail kan verwoorden.
Ook het verkwanselen van soevereiniteit aan de minder democratische EU is veel Nederlanders een doorn in het oog en vele andere Nederlanders maakt dat het concept Nederland als nationale staat steeds minder relevant.
