He is such a lovely little boy. you capture some lovely moments. there is one moment early on where Damo and Otis are walking through the stalls and Otis is asking her a question. Damo has a very gentle, genuine and loving engagement with Otis - it is quite beautiful to watch and no doubt gives Otis the feeling of love and security that enables him to thrive. thank you again for sharing these lovely insights into your experience of the world.
Hi Ryan, Damo and Otis, another great festival this year. Interesting to see that the pond in front of the launch site was completely dry this year compared with last year when it was full of water. Just shows how hot and dry this hot season has been in Isaan. The instrument that you said was a flute, was in fact a Kaen, which I am sure you knew anyway. This is a typical instrument originally from Laos but also associated with the Isaan region. It is mainly used as an accompaniment for Morlam singers or dancers. It is a very interesting instrument and not that easy to play, as I have tried on more than one occasion. It is probably a very wise decision not to to have the very big rockets, because as you can testify, the ones used this year are quite big , and noisy, enough. Thanks for sharing as always Ryan, God bless you and the family 😀❤🙏
Yep, there is corruption, sure. Corruption everywhere. But the Thai Government, at this stage at least, does not seem to have open hostility towards it's own people.
One of my earliest memories in Thailand after meeting my wife 16 years ago. Good times.... I remember taking cover under my plastic chair when a rocket exploded. But felt alive ! :D
I love these local Festivals im 2 meter tall getting talked about is an understatement, but the people are friendly and share, so I always bring something to share 2.
Excellent vlog Ryan, love this aspect of Thailand. It's still a bit wild west out there hahaha that's why I love the place so much. Great too see everyone having fun and just enjoying the festival. I have never been to one of these festivals but it's now on the bucket list
I love Joey Phuwasit's song on this festival, but I am yet to see this festival around my village in Korat. Great to see the festival, thanks for the video!
First time I headed out to a friend's village in Rattanaburi and tried the "wake and bake" on Loacow. I was in bed asleep by 9:30, AM only 2 hours in! Getting hammered first thing in the morning and carrying on all day just wasn't my thing, but impressive. cheers!
The reed instrument is not actually a flute but basically a miniature pipe organ. It is called a Shing (not sure about the spelling). I bought one many years ago while traveling in Europe. You should pick one up Ryan. They sound amazing solo and you can play chords as well along with the melody. With your musical ability I think you could have some real fun with it!
Well nice place to see your rocket science is up to par. And quite unique to see especially if it was anywhere else it would be banned. And fairly much sums up Thailand that it is up to you for your own responsibility even some of the tourist spots.
I went in 1990, it was wild! I'm not sure if it's different now but up to 120kg of gunpowder launching those bad boys if they didn't explode beforehand, guys standing on the launch scaffold while rockets were taking off, I was surprised I saw no one lose their life. I returned to Australia the front page news in Melbourne newspapers that day was about an unexploded firework landing in an empty Tennis stadium. Wow!
I try to avoid the really loud festivals but I have found my noise canceling iPods help make it tolerable when one doesn't have a good excuse not to go. I did enough of that when I was young and foolish.
when i went years ago they were gamling on how long the rocket was in the air they had like spotters with binoculars recording the times, takes me watching this guru
You could consider recording in 1080p, and then upscale to 4k inside your video editor. It's not as good as recording in 4k of course, but for people watching on 4k TV's the upscaling helps. (And more importantly, I suspect the TH-cam algorithm slightly favours 4k)
It gets more dangerous every year, yes but it is interesting, exciting and fun festival in the same time, I think. Anyway, enjoy and be safe at Bun Bang Fai Festival 🚀🎉😱
WOW those are amazing fireworks , always interesting and entertaining to see what's going on with you and the family and the village. I could make a comment about government helping its people here in UK but would probably get me band off utube or arrested or both .
I saw a video of an RTAF pilot complaining about a near miss with one of these rockets. Unless you want to zoom in quite a bit 1080 is just fine, and if you want to slow things down shoot at 60fps.
The festival is presumed to be evolved from Buddhist fertility rituals which were held to celebrate the coming of the monsoon season. The festival also reflects elements of Lao folk culture. Observed just before the crop plantation period begins, the festival is a sign to make merry before beginning the hard word. Even today, scholars study the tradition of old rocket festival as it may play a significant role to the history of rocket festivals in the East, and might also be of importance in the socio-economic and development of Southeast Asia. This is the history of Rocket Festival in Thailand.
Taking your life in your hands going there Ryan? Still I liked the Thai version of Englebert Humperdink😅 are the rockets home made? Scared your son a little I think?
Love all kinds of mushrooms and I also eat anything that is high in antioxidants we still have a lot to learn from so called primitive cultures who knew more about the benefits of natural food than we do.
In villages the temple make horrible bangs without care for man or animals hearing I purchase ear protection muffs for the children 😡💥💨🤷💣🔕💆🦻*Note Deffness Cannot Be Repaired 🫢😢
Ryan. 4K on TH-cam makes no sense. Usually people consume their videos on a cellphone or tablet. Also even for enhanced 1080p TH-cam wants €18 per month (not even 4K).
The President of Ukraine's Party is called "Servant of the People". Also a great, although slightly surreal comedy sitcom by the same name that was on Netflix for a while written and starred in by Zelensky before the invasion. It is a very dark and funny satire.
My village we never celebrated and organized this festival anymore bcuz ppl.crazy and drunk all the time.and some of them after dunk they go crazy and fighting chaos every year.no enjoy after festival you can jointed with body ceremony 😢😢😢😢😓😓😓😓😓😰😓😓
Great episode guys. BTW, my American 65 year gay man enjoys Thai "fem-boys" unlike lady-boys he says. The Lao Khao if homemade can be over 100 proof. You are well known compared to before! 555 The smell of burning gunpowder and accelerate in the afternoon! It seems on a small scale governments work better, local councils, local temples all serve their communities in rural Thailand more. In the cities too much temptation and corruption happens. Appreciate the mini Thai lessons, pronunciations, etc... Ryan. Thank you. Peace and Love Y'all
Did you get call Otis's Dad yet. Normally Thai love Kids and made them the centre. Instead of saying your name. they will call you Otis's Dad "พ่อโอทิส". In case of they know your kid name.
I wonder what the statistics are on bung fai deaths and injuries, or bushfires. I mean I can picture some innocent farmer out in the field 5 km away and then a damned 10kg rocket carcas falls from the sky lands on their head, or through a house roof.
Why do so many farang walk around saying hello in Thai but you don’t see Thais walking around doing the same, do the farang feel they pud passa Thai when they can say wat dee krab. I get tired of hearing this limited attempt to communicate. If your a farang and want to communicate, at least get a tutor to teach you some protocol and some Thai.

"A council and government, there to help it's people" What a novel idea.. No.10 should look into this.
Yep, there is corruption, sure. Corruption everywhere. But the Thai Government, at this stage at least, does not seem to have open hostility towards it's own people.

I cannot believe Damo let you get that close🤣🤣🤣 Last year was REALLY scary😬
😅😅😅
Yes, I have been to these festivals. Always thought the big rockets were a bit dangerous. Plenty of fun at the festival.
More amazing Thai madness. The Thai’s never seem fazed by anything with little regard for danger or safety.
Nice to be the only Farang
Mo has a beautiful smile.
That red fruit with the hair on it is Rambutan isn't it?
Yes

I missed it this year due to family circumstances in Holland but my girlfriend opened her phone today so I could watch it live in Nongbua lamphu ❤🙏🙏🙏
The small red spiky fruit are called rambutan in Indonesia.
ขอให้มีความสุข ขอบคุณครับ👍

This is freedom, in Europe you need a ticket, face scan, ID, with security, police to keep out the migrants, here every body can go to festivals
Oh, Hell Yeah!
