- Leafcutter ants are an amazing species and they are a species that we have wanted at the Zoo for a very long time.
With such a complex community and amazing evolution, these ants are sure to impress our visitors.
We've tried something a little different with our any colony, by using Lego to create a nest box for our ants.

Finally made it to the Zoo last weekend (Geordie living in Surrey and in Newcastle visiting family) and it was with the wait. Little kid loved the Capybaras (been waiting 2 years to see them), big kid the Raccoon, Mum the Alpaca and me (Dad) the Poitou donkeys….whoa! And we all couldn’t stop smiling at Hog Springs.
Thanks to you and all your staff for such a well thought out place and conscientiously stocked gift shop. We will be back. 😊
