Yes, just 2 would work if you are mixing in trailing flowers/vines or 3 of just the geraniums.

We just place the geraniums right in, they will root in to the existing soil quickly.

Why isn't my geranium growing . I have had it for about three weeks and it has not grown any. It is blooming but not growing

We preach on 3 principles all the time and 99% of problems will be found in those 3 or a combination of. They are: good soil, good care and good fertilizer. If your flowers are not growing, there is a reason (probably soil.)
