I feel like if the skinny mirror girl never went to Shark Tank and just went all in on seelling to stores and hotels or whatever, she could have actually had a decently successful business
yeah i mean she had a business who wanted to give her $700,000 and turned it down then came onto the show and exposed her shady mirror business. she could've taken the business further if she just didn't expose herself
the halloween thing really is terrible. since the gifts have to be bought beforehand and are definitely not translatable into a tangeable amount of candy it takes all the fun out of trick or treating away. With trick or treating you are earning candy that you get to eat when you get home, if you know that all the candy is going straight into the Switch witch's toilet bowl then theres no motivation to really go out trick or treating. It's not like you're going to get more presents if you get a lot of candy so you might as well just stay home or do something else and still getting the same presents anyways.
The mirror company could've been so much better if they had just gone a slightly different path. EDIT: I meant literally changing the product too, cause this one's terrible. "Introducing the TrueFlat (WIP)! Many mass manufactured mirrors are slightly convex because of loose quality control. This can lead many to both an unrealistic view of their body, and develop into self-image issues. TrueFlat prides itself in our quality assurance, making sure you can see the true, wonderful you!" This still supports her emotional investment, while also being a way more viable consumer product. Even though other companies could start promising the same thing, people don't care about mirror brands very much, so as soon as they see the whole "convex mirrors are bad" campaign they won't pay attention to other mirrors, they'll just figure "well, I should get me one of those straighter mirrors from that lady.". There's no innovation in sight, but it could easily spark out as a generic trademark.
So basically she would lie even more by saying normal mirrors are lower quality and hers are real, when she’s actually purposely selling one that makes people look skinny
@@jeffreyfairbanks5242 im pretty sure most mirrors are a bit off though. Not necessarily convex, but warped in some other way a bit which could make people feel they are more asymmetrical than they really are.
I think they should have gone with an allergy/dietary restriction angle for the switch witch. If your kids is allergic to peanuts, that means they can’t eat like half of their candy. Allergens like dairy, almonds, gluten, etc are also found in candy. If a child is diabetic, they may not be able to eat any candy or only one piece when their sugar is low. That is a perfect way to still make Halloween special (and safe) for kids who can’t eat certain foods.
I used to refuse to wear my glasses in front of a mirror since I had gone so long without looking at my actual skin. I thought my skin had only a few blemishes, wasn’t too bad, but then I saw my reflection with my glasses for the first time in a month… ruined my self confidence. Living in delusion didn’t help me though. All it did was make me think my skin was worse than it really was. The skinny mirror really is a horrible idea for people who want to be confident.
The fact this actually ended up in clothing stores is disgusting, talks about helping women self image yet actually ruining it more. I remember seeing this in the local Deb’s in the mall and it never had the logo removed, it was just made smaller. This lady is truly a numskull, the company making it to 2018 is pitiful and should have never made it that far.
The sharks are more than willing to invest in clever schemes to deceive people, but when the scam is too obvious, they act like they have some semblance of morality for the cameras. Behind closed doors, I'm sure they probably wouldn't have turned down that 700k if they were in her position
it's actually insane that someone can create a business, design the product, make the product, and never realize how dumb of an idea it is. There's no way no one told them how dumb the switch witch or skinny mirror were, they had to just be too full of themselves to listen
The skinny mirror thing was probably doing harm to people's mental health, not the other way around. If you go to a shop and buy a dress because it makes you look thin, and then try it on at home and you look like usual, you will feel so much worse at the fact that you thought you were skinny. And if you buy one for yourself you will know it, meaning you won't convince yourself. Even worse, you may convince yourself that any differences are because of the mirror, not because of any weight you might actually have lost.
Never heard of the Skinny Mirror, but in my teens, it was pretty much common knowledge that stores used mirrors that made you look slimmer so that you would buy the clothes.
The whole switch witch thing isn't unique, I knew a fair few kids who had some variant of some magical thing come and exchange some amount of candy for a toy, as did I. Honestly it wasn't a bad deal since it made Halloween more than just a gorge yourself on candy night especially since it took weeks to burn through it even with my sweet tooth. But that's exactly why trying to market that doesn't work because people have already been doing it for ages with their own traditions and probably has spread far more that way than any commercialized product lol
Ah, the skinny mirror. A few years back, I was in some clothes store, I don't remember which one it was exactly, but it was definitely one of the more well known ones. I looked into one of the mirrors and noticed I looked a lot skinnier then I actually am, and when I walked away, I could notice the mirror was slightly warped. I'm not sure if this was the same brand of mirrors, but it definitely was some sort of skinny mirror.
that actually reminds me that i've seen myself in mirrors and thought i looked thinner... and got home and saw i wasn't, and because i have body dysmorphia i was very upset. until i saw this video/comment i had no idea these kinds of mirrors existed! but anyway whatever moral high ground skinnymirror girl is trying to take is bullshit lol and ty op for letting me know these exist /gen
my mom actually used to do the "switch witch" thing with me as a kid on halloween, it was like the toothfairy but for candy. But she wouldnt take all of my candy and she would get me a cheap walmart or dollarstore toy in return. Eventually I caught on just like every kid does with santa etc and realized most people probably dont do that. I never had any hard feelings when I found out because like I said it was only a part of my candy and I got something out of it and I was compliant
I went to highschool with the switch witch guys kid, someone told me his dad was on shark tank, but he would never talk about it. All he would ever say was it’s elf on the shelf for Halloween, he never talked about how it went, and never saw the episode until now. Edit: also yeah they are from mass but not from Salem, probably just said that for the pitch.
She claims her goal is to make people feel more confident in their body and she just wants to help make people feel better when in reality all shes really doing is exploiting people's insecurities for money

The Switch Witch is an objectively horrible business idea, but I immediately thought of a way their book could be helpful in the Prader-Willi community. If you don't know, Prader-Willi Syndrome is an incurable, untreatable genetic disorder that causes the person to be eternally RAVENOUS. People with this syndrome, left unattended, can eat themselves to death. Refrigerators and pantries have to be locked, and 24-hour monitoring is required. Obviously, this makes it difficult for parents to allow their PWS children to engage in many social activities, including Trick-or-Treat, because it is food-centered. The story of the Switch Witch is like Elf on the Shelf, and could reward PWS children with something positive other than food (by replacing candy with toys). Like I said, a terrible business idea, but the concept could really help PWS families engage in this one very normal annual tradition.
After seeing the Switch Witch, I think it would have been great if Atrioc looked at the Mensch on a Bench (which is mentioned in the last moment of the Shark Tank clip) which was when somebody tried to make a Jewish tradition thing as a parallel to Christmas's Santa Claus; it even seems that it did decently well after a quick google search, plus just the fact that the guy in the show mentions it as a thing that he expected to be the "next" of.
The skinny mirror lady probably had her business fail because she went on shark tank and showed off to everyone how it works to manipulate you and now stores don't want to buy it. She could have made bank just removing the logo and marketing to stores, she already knows people buy way more stuff when looking in it
Kevin would've definitely invested if she was honest about it and was like "yea we're scamming women into thinking they're skinnier so they buy more clothes"
Department stores will often have slightly curved mirrors to slightly slim people in the reflection. They just don’t put a logo telling you in the corner lol. This has been a thing.

My parents did the Switch Witch concept with me (they made up the Great Pumpkin though). I like it. We keep a small portion of candy and the rest is swapped for a cool present. Terrible business though lol
My aunt was one of those “I don’t want my kids having all that candy on Halloween” moms, so she came up with the idea for the Halloween party held at her house where all the kids in the family came to trick or treat, and for the adults to buy the candy from us kids during the little “auction” we held after bringing back our candy haul. Prices ranged from 10 cents up to $1 depending on the type and size of candy ($1 would be for like 4 for $1 or for the rare full sized candy bar), and I would always end up with $20 bucks or so, but still kept a good amount of my candy because my mom wasn’t a crunchy mom like my aunt. 😂
Only thing the Halloween shit will do is that kids will start to hide all the candies, and then give ten horrible pieces of candies to their parents to get their presents AND the bag full of candies.
My parents did something similar to the switch witch, it only happened once, my neighborhood put our candy outside the door. The reason it only happened once is because i got a magazine filled with scooby doo ads. Literally got nothing
The skinny mirror has the logo yes but not a lot of people are going to notice it, it does basically say skinny so on the low chance you look and read the logo then maybe you can figure it out.
The switch witch would only work for like. Gullible 5 year old or under too. Or the nicest kids ever who don't like candy. Even then you have the risk of them remembering later on and throwing a fit.
I think the Switch Witch was supposed to be like a new Elf on the Shelf, not new Santa Clause. It is a lot though to get a whole switching table, fog machine, etc. Sure its reusable throughout the child years, its much more expensive than a elf doll.
Geez the skinny mirror product is a landslide of health issues. I put on a lot of weight in college and even after during covid, but what I’m doing to fix it is getting back into working out and fasting. If you lie to yourself with a “skinny” mirror it’s only going to make things worse.

The green ninja would never give up his candy to the switch witch, but if he had a skinny mirror maybe he would
They really took taking candy from kids to a new level
When Atrioc Started Streaming 3 years ago... "This could be a hobby"
I genuinely enjoy learning marketing jargon from Atrioc
Introducing the Witch Switch, your kid makes an offering of gifts, then the gifts disappear and the kid wakes up to even MORE candy
Only thing the Halloween shit will do is that kids will start to hide all the candies, and then give ten horrible pieces of candies to their parents to get their presents AND the bag full of candies.
Honestly the fact that the Switch Witch is still around is very impressive
Switch Witch gives big Elf on the Shelf vibes. Just way way worse lol.
0:01 I’m surprised Nintendo didn’t yoink your glizzys for that Ikana Canyon snippet.
Atrioc motivated steve jobs. it all makes sense.
My parents did something similar to the switch witch, it only happened once, my neighborhood put our candy outside the door. The reason it only happened once is because i got a magazine filled with scooby doo ads. Literally got nothing
Camera based "mirrors" that have "imperfection" filters will totally be a thing though.
Sephora have AI computer vision systems to make you look good in their make up, so it is already a thing
The business was terminated lmaoooo
There's only 2 ways to go in life, Shark Tank or Therapy
Dude the switch witch is sad but the fact that some poor schmuck made KNOCKOFFS is worse wtf?!?
my parents used to let me keep like 30 pieces of candy every halloween and they bought the rest off me so I wouldn't eat so much candy
The switch which was something my parents did which they called the good witch but the present was just a empty notebook
The skinny mirror has the logo yes but not a lot of people are going to notice it, it does basically say skinny so on the low chance you look and read the logo then maybe you can figure it out.
Love the shark tank!!! I wish they made more episodes cause the content will run out eventually
A commercial where you're still wondering what you're suppose to buy. Honestly true art, Yes Atrioc!
The switch witch would only work for like. Gullible 5 year old or under too. Or the nicest kids ever who don't like candy. Even then you have the risk of them remembering later on and throwing a fit.
Does it come with a neck brace so you can't look down?
8:50 BRING BACK THE FUN-HOUSE MIRROR! I'LL INVEST! JUST NOT THE SWITCH WITCH!!! XD
I knew a teacher with 7 kids who would switch his kids candy for a chinese food dinner and then sell the candy at school
Bro the skinny mirror is so dangerous to peoples self image
Firstly I live in Australia, and clothing stores have been known to use skinny mirrors for tricky for over 20 years.
And secondly I DO NOT want to have skinny mirrors in a store. It's like the emperor and his new clothes. Ridiculous idea !
The skinny mirror would be great for instagram selfies.
Also The fat mirror she mentioned sounds like a better idea to me as it would make you feel fatter and you try to loose weight
Neither is good lmao
It just enforces insecurities
@@living5891 True but I am talking from business standpoint. From a moral and ethical view however the idea of a mirror that alters your figure in any shape or form is wrong other than for entertainement
Damn government tryna switchwitch my hard earned candy
switchwitch gift idea: take the candy, put it in a box and give it back to the kids. that way the switch witch came, gave them a box and their candy back, and everyone’s happy.
man as someone who is 100% a parent, and 100% have children, the only thing im worried about is if they get TOO much candy! forget the fact they might get run over by a car because their costume is black, or they could be given drugs, think about their teeth man! i would rather have a dead child than an unheathy one is all im saying.
Ok so Kevin O’Leary isn’t wrong when he points out that the skinny mirror is unethical and exists largely to trick consumers into buying clothes; however, I find if moral grandstanding deeply ironic cus it’s nowhere near as bad as FTX which stole money from people and he loved FTX and then turned around after its collapse and still defended it.
