jesus freakin'H! i'm a few hours from a long weekend overseas, updated my SD, and refind broke 😢 This fixed my triple boot setup! You literally saved me a ton of hassle from bringing a non-working SD on a 4-hour flight! Thanks for sharing this!❤
THANK YOU SO MUCH! I followed the guide for reFind and it fixed my dual boot issues! ISSUES. I've been manually booting into steam os via the boot manager, cus the usual way just boots me into windows even when I choose steam on the refind menu. Second issue (just leaving this out here in case someone has the same issue) was the major "Gnu grub 2.06" error that pops up when I'm booting into steam. After much sleuthing, I learnt I was able to bypass that by holding the 3-dots button on the lower right, while booting into steam. There should be a list down menu popup, I selected the second from the top "Previous" and then I'm in.
Looks like I never set a password for sudo, so I had to "change my password" via the system settings>users>change password. I used the new password on rEFInd and it worked. I started to panic but now I can fix my dual boot. Thanks.
So I don't have any of clover or revfind I go boot from file and do exactly what you say BUT it doesn't boot and it loads GNU GRUB 2.06 I can't go back to steam os idk what todo...
I will start by saying Thanks for your how to guide to dual boot on the Steam Deck! I am not as tech savvy as I would like to be and I am receiving the OLED soon. I will be attempting to dual boot using your internal ssd method (following it exactly as you have written it) and would like to know if anything has changed using this method? Should I precede to use your existing guides?
So the only thing that will be different is the drivers. Unfortunately, Valve has not yet provided Wifi, Bluetooth or Audio drivers for the OLED - but I hope they will have these in the next few days! The web page is the same: help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/6121-ECCD-D643-BAA8
What if it wasn't booting then I do the recovery, but every time it restarts after the update it reboots to windows and after rebooting again starts the bucle of repeated updates and failed reboots? I can't go to desktop from the "select language, select time zone, insert wifi" recovery
@suketodara might just start from scratch tbh. That and my Linux is starting to become a lil bloated (my own fault) and now I've got windows I don't need the Linux emulated C; drive. I can just attach the actual windows one
Hello my friend, I have a problem. I bought a m.2 1tp. When I install the OS on the steam deck, the image freezes. It is new. When I put it on USB C, then I put it on the steam deck from the outside, it disconnects by itself.
hi,, i did the third option.. cause when i bought my steamdeck 2nd hand... it has already dual boot...sadly u update my steam without thinking...i follow the third option and it automatically go to steam OS...but how to go back to Windows OS..thanks
Hello man, i install clover some months ago to my steam deck and i updated my steam deck after not using it with 2 months and when the update was done it couldnt find any os. And i searched in the internet, seems its kinda of a common issue, but as i see you can you can find your nvme in bios "Boot from file". Mine is not showing in the bios, windows instalation, steam os installation, gparted live. The problem is i cant ask for steam help because they told me to get a new 64gb nvme, but mine was an aftermarket 1TB ...
My deck loads straight into windows every time. The powershell window (to make refind appear after restarting) says partners invalid or something like that
I did fix it that time by forcing it to boot into steam os and typing something in console. Gotta find a good video again just happened after updating windows. I'm using clover by the way. It does not fix itself when you force steam os.
Until Valve is able to fix their compatibility issues, it is a necessary evil. Most seem to use it for Gamepass however, if someone could figure out a way to get UWP apps like that working on SteamOS, it would solve a lot of reasons to use Windows on the Steam Deck.
@@baldsealion How is it a necessary evil to be dedicated to maintaining anyone's near monopoly? People could make the conscious decision to give something up because they're not okay with the potential outcomes if they take it. I would say that the don't because it's easier to just go with what you were taught as a child, use at work, are invested in for entertainment, and/or because they largely don't care or know of the possible outcomes. Probably figure UWP out alongside xbox series x & s emulators. Maybe it will be another thing like WINE, who knows. I like how the arguments against switching have sifted from 'doesn't have my programs and games' to 'no AAA games' to 'gamepass', gamepass being on UWP --the very platform which Microsoft wanted to try to monetize all programs running on their platform through. Probably would have helped with security though. I wonder if people mean and would ever outright say that they just don't want to & don't care: f' everyone else, I'm taking care of me.
Grow up. There are things that will only work on Windows which is why some of us decided to dual boot our decks. It's the flexibility we want, like it or not.
@@aznhomig your flexibility stifles competition. you grow up, I'm not even asking fools like you to not do it, ffs. I would never advocate for restrictions, install windows on a switch if you want. Because stuff doesn't work on Linux hell even when it does it give you random crashes for no reason other than proton taking a dump somewhere, and I like Linux it's just not ment for game designed for windows so get mad at the developers of said games.

After updating my steam os I'm getting no bootable device error, i boot into steam os but i need to use the efi method every single time i can no longer boot into my Windows Os.

But my steam deck startup looking like it's running on clover as i got those 2 windows and steam icons whenever i run my deck before the update, but it doesnt fix itself after the booting in through efi.
after i did the 3rd step as i dont have clover or refind, my konsole goes to sudo password for deck: and then nothing? its stuck there.i cant even type in my sudo password. help pls
My exact same situation, the sudo password and I don't recall ever creating one, I only did the button code to enter to steam deck, nothing more! Some say that decky loader is the culprit

Thanks buddy, worked for me using refind :)
No refind gui option..
Great video!
I had an additional issue, that my navigation input didn‘t work in the boot menu.
