    Pro tip. The lower spring seat is removable and reversible. Mine was upside down from the factory. It took me hours of frustration to find that out. As I was packing up the shock assuming it was wrong. Did one last visual comparison and find out my hurdle. The other other shock came out of the box properly. Hope this helps.

      @@OlisGarage Actually I had to figure it out the hard way lol. I had no idea after market bushings are different... They are lol. So nice of them to not give any instructions lol. But still was helpful regardless.

    Wish I had this video 6 months ago when I lowered my 94 Jetta! Great video.

      May I ask what shock and spring combination you used? Or, did you go for coil overs?

      @@OlisGarage ap sportfahrwerke coilovers 🙂 I had sachs advantage shocks and fk automotive lowering spring. It worked fine for about 3-4 years, but lately the car felt soft and was leaning a lot in corners. Will see how it works out 🙂 the fronts are coming on the car soon, as soon as get by a decent pair of original shocks, because ap sells only cartridges

    Look into the tensile strength and grade of the SS Hardware and you will find them interesting. The original hardware wasn’t grade 8, it could be grade 5 at best.
    There are high strength stainless steel fasteners available. They are used in many high stress or critical loads areas.
    Where did you sourced your SS lower shock hardware?

    When you have a video changing front lower struts and lower springs ?

      I have the parts, just need to film it. Hoping within the next few months.

    Could you make a video on how to fix or replace the driver or passanger seats? I am about to buy a mk1 cabriolet, and the seats like to move pr wiggle back and forwards

    • @OlisGarage
      @OlisGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I will definitely add that to the list!
      FYI, that is a really easy fix. A couple of plastic pieces and some grease are all that you need. I will make a video; expect it to be released in the late spring timeframe.

    if you install lower springs, can a stock shock do?or shorter shock are available?

  • @BradMeehan
    @BradMeehan 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Can you reuse the stock springs with these parts listed in the description? My 92 is really bouncy but I'm also being budget conscious.

    • @OlisGarage
      @OlisGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely.
      Rock Auto usually also has inexpensive new springs and stock components it you want to buy relatively inexpensive, new components

    Hi Oli, the upper and lower spring retainers, did they come with the struts from Koni?. I have a pair of Koni rear struts but both retainers are quite corroded, I have been looking around various sites to see if I can purchase the retainers to replace, but no luck, any recommendations on where to buy or who supply's.

    • @OlisGarage
      @OlisGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The uppers no, I got those from the car. The lower ones which are orange came with the springs. The top ones are available on some sites from what I remember.

    Will this cabrio ever see salty roads again? Or is the hard part of it's life over? :D

    • @OlisGarage
      @OlisGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hopefully it will see very little. It will get driven in the winter, just not when there is snow and ice everywhere.
      I drove the brown 84 for 3 years through the winter. Such a fun car (with great heat), but so bad for them.

    Stainless steel bolts are not ideal bolts for suspension or chassis parts. Should be using grade 8 bolts or better.

    • @OlisGarage
      @OlisGarage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I guess that explains why nothing is ever stainless. Well I’m certainly going to keep installing stainless in that spot because I am not going to try to saw it apart again haha
