I think the guy’s childhood trauma and family discontent made him jealous of other, more secure families. Hence trying his best to make people feel uneasy as he did. Then, when he had the chance, eventually couldn’t contain his urge in breaking a family altogether.
Absolutely heartbreaking for the families affected

You can get multiple types of murderers. He would be a Type 2 murderer, which often people who commit random murders without premeditation are. If he was that charming over the phone, he was likely socially adequate and quite cunning/smart. It’s scary who can turn out to be a psycho murderer sometimes.

So many k*llers are in the same position as this one! Messed up childhood in one way or another and then they go onto repeat the pattern in an even worse way. Never excusing their actions but there’s so often an ‘explanation’ for why they did what they did

Three people sadly lost their lives, because society is too compassionate towards broken peoole. Is it the fault of the broken person? No. But ask yourself, if they are "rehabilitated" would you leave your children alone with them? There's no saving some people, only their future victims by stop the crime before it even has a chance to start.
