🤷🏽‍♀️I'm missing something. I enjoy simple melody and rhythm. Fantastic harmonica
.But the lyrics? Outside what? What have we learned... that 3 chords 5 notes and 4 words repeated and repeated...

They wrote it because they felt like outsiders in the music industry. Aspiring to be a rock band, but Bear and his brother Bo (no longer in the band) grew up as pastors kids and have Christian themes woven into their music, so they got pigeon-hold as a Christian band, when they were simply Christians in a band trying to be a rock and roll band.

I actually heard Needtobreathe tell a story about this not long ago, they were trying to make good music but not do everything all the other artists were. They made The Outsiders talking about how they’re different than other bands even if they don’t completely fit into a specific genre of artists. The first time they played the song a lot was actually at a Taylor Swift concert because they opened for her a while back.
