  • During wound healing, serum and white blood cells move to the site of injury which creates exudate which starts to pool in the wound. Managing this exudate is important to reduce risk of leakage and maceration and optimise healing conditions.
Gelling fibers can be used to manage highly exuding, sloughy and cavity wounds including undermining. However, some conventional gelling fibers may shrink and increase the risk of gap creation between the dressing and the wound bed which allows for exudate starting to pool. Excess exudate may leak on to the wound edge and the periwound skin, which can cause maceration of healthy tissue, leading to delayed wound healing. This environment could also promote bacterial growth, increasing the risk of infection.
Biatain Fiber with Hexalock technology, is the ideal solution to reduce exudate pooling in highly exuding, sloughy and cavity wounds, including undermining. Apply Biatain Fiber loosely in the wound and apply a secondary dressing for instance, Biatain Silicone. Upon contact with exudate, Biatain Fiber locks in exudate and bacteria to minimise the risk of maceration and infection. Biatain Fiber keeps it shape with minimal shrinkage to minimise gap creation and exudate pooling. The tensile strength of Biatain Fiber supports easy one piece removal with minimal risk of leaving fiber and gel residue in the wound to reduce pain for the patient during dressing changes. Biatain Fiber is designed with and for Healthcare professionals to reduce exudate pooling for optimal healing conditions.
