    I'm just starting out in the hobby. My first purchase was the Realflight simulator. I bought the package that comes with a spectrum DXs transmitter and USB dongle. I plan on buying a Sportcub S2 as I will primarily be a park flyer but, I will move up in the future. Thanks for all of your great information. Fitz

      You can get the Spektrum wireless USB dongle #WS2000 to connect to your PC and use a Spektrum transmitter with the simulator. Not familiar with Ardupilot? Sorry, somehow missed your question until now?? The majority transmitters on the market today are fairly easy to program and operate. When the manual doesn't explain in enough detail, there's TH-cam! As for the QX7, it is a pretty good radio. The FlySky transmitters are similar to working with apps on a smart phone. You seem to know your stuff! 👍🏼. I’m quite new to RC, and after buying a trainer I want to move up to the Avios Spitfire Vb
    Question: In order to get a similar “safe switch” setup like some trainers have, that level you out when u get into trouble, will I need a special transmitter and receiver with a gyro stability type-thing in it? ( can u tell I’m a noob!?) 🤣
    After watching this, the FS i6-S or DX6e transmitters are on the shopping list....I just don’t want to trash the beautiful spit before I get to grips with it!
    Thanks in advance, Dan.

    • @TheTravelingTechGuy
      @TheTravelingTechGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Dan,
      The system you are referring to is the SAFE and AS3X, developed by Spektrum and they are the only manufacturer I know of that have a safety system like this. In order to use SAFE with AS3X on any other plane, you would need a Spektrum transmitter and a Spektrum receiver with SAFE and AS3X built in.
      I would suggest you wait a little while on that Spit until you build up your flying skills. Warbirds are not the easiest of airplanes to fly especially, for a beginning pilot. You'll want to pick airplanes that will move your skills to the next level until you have the skills to handle any warbird.

    Hi, I'm new to the hobby and have been flying a Sport Cub RTF from Horizon Hobby. About ready to get my next plane which I'd like to be the UMX Turbo Timber but it doesn't come RTF. The 6 channel Sektrum transmitters just seem to expensive to me for the type and amount of flying I plan on doing. I've been looking at the RadiioMaster TX8 which comes in at under $100.00 and is multi protocol. What do you think about the Jumper and RadioMaster transmitters? Thanks.

    • @TheTravelingTechGuy
      @TheTravelingTechGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Unfortunately, I am not familiar with the Jumper/RadioMaster brands... While the price and features are attractive, I would do a lot of research to make sure it is a quality product. Watching review videos and scrolling through forums of other users that actually own the that transmitter, will be your best guide on whether to buy it or not.
      As far as the cost of the Spektrum 6-channel transmitter, I think it is still a good value for being under $200. Spektrum has been around a while and has a very good track record on quality and features. Since the Turbo Timber is BNF, you can easily bind that plane or any BNF model to a Spektrum transmitter.
      If you do buy the Jumper/RadioMaster transmitter and fly with it a while, come back and let me know your experiences with it.

      Really, any one of the transmitters on the list will give him the options. All have the capability of storing the settings of multiple models in them. He would only need to buy an additional receiver for each new plane. This would give him the option to fly any Almost Ready to Fly (ARF) and Plug-N-Play (PNP) plane on the market. If he wants to only fly Bind-n-Fly (BNF) planes, he would need to have a Spektrum transmitter.
      I would suggest that you compare the features of two or three transmitters in your price range. Then, I would look at the costs of the receivers that are compatible with those transmitters. Which ever one gives you the most bang without breaking the bank, I'd go with.

      In general, look for aircraft transmitters that have specific "aero" and "heli" versions. The "aero" version will usually have a ratchet throttle and the "heli" version throttle should be smooth. Some more expensive transmitters (Futaba T18SZ for example) feature external adjusters for gimbal stick tension and throttle quadrant selection giving you maximum flexibility. Older Futaba transmitters that should work well include the T12FG, T12K and T6J (that has a simple user swappable ratchet plate).

  • @basilyousif3077
    @basilyousif3077 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cheaper Spectrum radios are good for foam planes where the signal is easily sent and received through the material in the plane but for reliability, I would definitely go with Futaba. As planes get more complicated your going to see more interference problems from wire nests in planes and My Futaba radios have not failed. Even when a signal is hammered by a nearby tower or too many flyers on the field it still get's the plane or helicopter back. Many guys at our field fly Spectrum and I've seen so many crashes when they continue to use it for more advanced planes. There are also many aftermarket receivers for Futaba and Spectrum if your on a budget I would put those into the cheaper planes and helis. One aftermarket 14channel receiver for Futaba for $30 is the Corona and next to the $200 14channel Futaba its a real bargain. I have only used it in Large Foam EDF jet's though. I wouldn't put it in my Turbine Jet which does have the $200 Futaba receiver. Whith my experience cheaper aftermarket stuff might be susceptible to Vibration from more complicated RC Models, Gassers, Turbines etc!!

    • @TheTravelingTechGuy
      @TheTravelingTechGuy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Futaba has been the standard that others had to follow for many years but, not any longer. Too many competitors that are building transmitters/receivers that are comparable to most of Futaba's higher-end stuff but, at a lot less cost. Take my FlySky FS-i10 for example. I paid maybe $68 for it and 10-channel receivers, cost me between $15 - $20. If I use a 6-channel receiver, price is even cheaper. I fly mainly gas planes and haven't had any issues with signal interference or vibration issues.
      If Futaba made a line that competed at the lower price point trasnmitters, Futaba would once again, be the dominating force in RC. I have a feeling Futaba and Spektrum are going to eventually price themselves out of the market if they don't do something to stay competitive. It would be a shame to lose either one of them from the market.

      @@TheTravelingTechGuy sure there great for begginers to start out cheap into RC but Spectrum is made in the Sanwa factory that makes Airtronics. Aiirtronics were bad I had many horror stories with them - planes dropping out of the sky uncontrollable. FlySky is really good bang for the buck I use there aftermarket Futaba recievers. The drawback is some stuff comes defective so what's there quality controll like , also after a crash they can go bad where as very few Futaba recievers have went bad for me after an impact. When flying my Large Helicpoters I can not imagine any other radio than Futaba not just from another radio being so hard to configure for a Heli but the safety aspect.

    I'm coming back to the hobby after many years and can't believe that these Chinese radios are offering the tech they are for the price - why are people still buying Futaba and Spektrum etc?

      @TheTravelingTechGuy  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good question? You would think these legendary brands would bring out radios that would have more features and specs to remain a strong competitor? Spektrum is the only one that has a attempted to compete with a radio with good specs at $169. Thanks for the comment and for watching!

    Why would you not want lipos in your transmitter??

      I had been using the Tactic TTX-650 for the past 12.5 years. It has the regular alkaline battery tray in it. I liked it as it was always ready at a moments notice without having to worry about charging it up first. Now that I am using FlySky gear, charging the LiPo in the transmitter hasn't been a big deal. Thanks for the comment and for watching!!!

      I have a Detrum Gavin 8c radio that uses batteries that I have many models on it and guess what I'm still using batteries but I switched batteries from alkaline to lithium
      energizer makes them , they last nearly twice as long and put out a little higher voltage ⚡️

    You put a bit of effort into your video, that's great. You should go the extra mile and do something with your background. I know it really doesn't matter, but it sure would look a lot better. Something "brighter" looks like your in a dungeon or something.
