I have an ex-racehorse who is now an amazing hunter/jumper! I love him so much! Not all racehorses are sent to slaughter. Some are sent to be retrained. And I now have had a beautiful chestnut gelding since he was 13 and he is turning 22 this month! Not all racehorses have horrible lives.
This always makes me so sad. My trainer went to a “Failed Racehorse auction” and saw this one bay thoroughbred gelding limping in circles, and she told me that she couldn’t just leave him there , and she bought him for only $40.00. That was about 11 years ago, and now he is 34 years old, happy and healthy, and my lesson horse that taught me everything I know, and still continues to teach me more and more things, each and every lesson. This shows that all failed racehorses, injured or not, should have a second chance at life, because they all have life in them, big or small, young or old, they all have chances at/in life. ❤️🐎❤️
I almost cryed seeing this on the news..... I love horses so much! And.... I just hate to see them die or there owners treat them badly.... I feel like crying right now cuz of this little film

Sarah M it’s illegal for a racehorse to be sent to slaughter directly from the track. 80% of race horses are well cared for. Just because 20% of the race industry is bad doesn’t make the entire industry bad. Every discipline has bad and good in it, people tend to focus only on the bad.

I used to think the racing industry was bad, and it is true that some horses are sent to slaughter or get injured. However, most horses that go to slaughter are quarter horses, I believe. In racing, there’s a certain amount of times you’re allowed to crop your horse, and most horses are prized possessions to their owners.
Seth there is a limit to using a whip in most areas. Most owners love there horses yet people only listen to the rumours and not actual facts these days. It all depends on the owner and jockey.
I think it should be stopped too people are destroying perfectly good horses and killing them, horses out there trust in humans and we just treat them like machines until they break and then they throw them out like garbage. 😡 great vid btw

Dont believe everything internet trainers tell you. The horse racing industry is not abusive. Racing horses are worth a lot and are usually treated better than most horses. They get top quality feed and supplements. Not very many people use buzzers to get the horse going at the start of the race, that's usually just something you see in movies. Dont accuse jockeys of abuse when you've done absolutely no research.

It’s not the entire industry, it’s the people. There is a lot of good racers who care more about their horses than they care about themselves. There is a lot of race horses now being trained to be ridden off track that eventually get rehomed. Although, some racers are abusive and use illegal things like that one thing that shocks the horse. In my opinion the Tennessee walking horse industry is worse.

Racing isn't all guns and whips. My dad, in fact, owned race horses. None were whipped like how the media shows. Some horses are indeed drugged, abused, etc. but that isn't the case with all of them. Secretariat for example was known as the best race horse of all time. If you find the documentary on him on Netflix I totally recommend it! His owner believed that a horse shouldn't go through pain to win, Secretariat wasn't abused at all! Horses love to run, it is their nature, and being competitive is quite common in horses, of course there are some bad jockeys to take it to the extreme, but many things are restricted. This is just my opinion and I don't want it to be taken as hate, I just think it is best to know what happens behind the scenes that isn't put to press.

In fact, racehorses are not sent to slaughterhouses. And even if they break their legs, first of all they try to cure them, and not write them off. As for heart attacks, they can happen to any horse, not just a racehorse. Racehorses usually retire after they turn 4-5 years and then they spend a beautiful life. And such horses never get separated from their mothers. They live happily as all foals do, and when they turn 2 years they start racing. The movie is really nice tho!
Ok, there are good and bad sides of racing! As some people sadly do get abused some get treated very nicely! Usually horses that don’t win or are retired are sent to be trained so they can be ridden off track, well from my experience. These horses are know as OTTB’s and will be sold to some person looking for a new horse. My uncle was a racer and treated his horses like family members until he died in a riding accident. However, some racers are abusive and some horses do shatter their legs and have to be put down.

I agree, my aunt has race horses and some of them are so kind and gentle, then the go to the track, they return mean and grumpy that you cant do nothing, as soon as one of them reaches age 5 to 8 there sold to other people, i try to stop them, they always say that they love them and want to help them, thats not love if you love something you keep it not sell it when its young, its so sad seeing horses being treated like this, just because in the wild they run doesnt mean they should be forced to run on a track, they run for survival and enjoyment in the wild, theres none of that on a track except for secretariat who loved to run, still it pains me to see horses treated like this
rebeka jerala listen here, i have 30 thoroughbreds that all went to the track, i walked through there barn and every horse in there struck out, and bit anyone who was within reach, ive seen one of my favorite horse be shot on the track because he fell down and cracked his bone, so when i saw racing life is cruel i mean cruel, those people easily could have fucking helped that horse but they chose to put a damn bullet in his head in front of thousands of people so shut up you have no idea what your talking about, theres horses that love to run and theres horse who dont the ones that dont are smacked with the whip so many times that every single one of my horses are terrified of whips to where we retire them early, so when i saw track life is tough it fucking is

I've always been against horse racing,(in PC games and that it's fine) but Irl it's not! First their killing a perfectly healthy horse, and instead of killing it, maybe set it free! For example, jumping horses, hurts their legs if they go to high. Dressage, pulling on the mouth for a stupid move. Barrel racing, can cause the horse to easily slip or crack it’s neck because of how hard they pull. Racing is not the only abusive discipline there is. The majority of racehorses are treated with care. And let me tell you this, drugging and tasering a horse is illegal. People that work at the track test the racehorses if they have been drugged and they never are. Tasering is pretty easy to notice, and whipping? You guys are absolute idiots on this topic. They can only whip the horse 7 times and once you’re in the last furlong, the max is only 5 from that 7. So all of you shut the hell up and go back to your toy horses.

We have a off the track race horse moving to are ranch do to having wobblers. He may only do walk trot and it’s extremely sad to see. He is living his best life though an is 22 years old. He will be hanging out with are hunter jumper and other horses at the ranch. Luckily not all race horses are slaughtered.
I just wanted to say, I love this short story! But most of this is inaccurate, horses do not always get killed for just not winning, it depends on the owner, and how cruel they are. My grandfather raced horses his entire life and now my uncle does, and we visit his farm every weekend, all his horses are cared for beautifully and not abused. I know this is a point you are proving, but its illegal for a race horse to be sold to slaughter, dumped on land, ect. If the horse is not fit for racing anymore and retires, it gets trained to be a riding horse for the rest of its life.
i think that this was well made but i don’t agree with it at all. most racehorses don’t even race. only the ones that actually have potential race. i would say that 2/5 of horses meant for the track actually race (don’t quote me on the statistics because im not a vet)

Horses cannot trip on the leg wraps. Anyway some horses have really extensive gallop and they can hurt their front legs if their hind legs would touch.

I have a racehorse...Zalsnap .....abandoned...sold..then we brought him...he can't jump.. he is scared of whips once I showed him and he galloped away...be bucked a few times.he can up to 55k an hour..Why did they do this? to his brother??? or sisters?. I don't know..Why??.he won 7 or 6 times just why. Now he lives his life in a paddock with 3 other horses, getting ridden about every 3 days I love him More than Anything... and also he can't do trotting poles because his a flat racer..i still loved him my friends go riding on him!

Like the examples who have shown, many break legs, have heart attacks, or even are sent to slaughter. It’s awful how some people treat these beautiful animals. Try and grow a bond with the horse, and if it doesn’t win you shouldn’t send it to slaughter. The racing industry is dangerous, and it’s a horrible industry that just abuses horses. They train and train train, but when the race comes something terrible always happens. Either the rider falls off and breaks something or the horse gets worse. This is a lesson to people who are thinking about racing. Don’t. You will just regret what happens to your horse.

And does anyone know that sending racehorse to slaughter is NOT allowed by the Jockey Club? Unfortunately, some people who shouldn't own any animal break this law. The only ones to blame are these people, not entire discipline.
In fact, racehorses are not sent to slaughterhouses. And even if they break their legs, first of all they try to cure them, and not write them off. As for heart attacks, they can happen to any horse, not just a racehorse. Racehorses usually retire after they turn 4-5 years and then they spend a beautiful life. And such horses never get separated from their mothers. They live happily as all foals do, and when they turn 2 years they start racing. The movie is really nice tho!
Ok, there are good and bad sides of racing! As some people sadly do get abused some get treated very nicely! Usually horses that don’t win or are retired are sent to be trained so they can be ridden off track, well from my experience. These horses are know as OTTB’s and will be sold to some person looking for a new horse. My uncle was a racer and treated his horses like family members until he died in a riding accident. However, some racers are abusive and some horses do shatter their legs and have to be put down.
This is so sad but its true stop people like this help keep horses alive

I agree, my aunt has race horses and some of them are so kind and gentle, then the go to the track, they return mean and grumpy that you cant do nothing, as soon as one of them reaches age 5 to 8 there sold to other people, i try to stop them, they always say that they love them and want to help them, thats not love if you love something you keep it not sell it when its young, its so sad seeing horses being treated like this, just because in the wild they run doesnt mean they should be forced to run on a track, they run for survival and enjoyment in the wild, theres none of that on a track except for secretariat who loved to run, still it pains me to see horses treated like this

rebeka jerala listen here, i have 30 thoroughbreds that all went to the track, i walked through there barn and every horse in there struck out, and bit anyone who was within reach, ive seen one of my favorite horse be shot on the track because he fell down and cracked his bone, so when i saw racing life is cruel i mean cruel, those people easily could have fucking helped that horse but they chose to put a damn bullet in his head in front of thousands of people so shut up you have no idea what your talking about, theres horses that love to run and theres horse who dont the ones that dont are smacked with the whip so many times that every single one of my horses are terrified of whips to where we retire them early, so when i saw track life is tough it fucking is

You can either pay for surgery or put them down. I would pay for surgery. Anyways, they should have not done that infront of the crowd, infact they shouldnt have done that at all. I think horse competing should be stopped in general since alot of horses get injured even in western riding classes, show jumping and even dressage.

Some racing industries arent all bad. Yes, horses may break there legs, or are sent to slaughter, or be given drugs, but not all jockeys give them drugs. I am not saying i support the racing industry or follow it i am saying not all are bad.
All of you saying that horse racing is abuse, it’s really not. You guys get stuff from PETA, RaleighLinks, or Google, which let me tell you is wrong most of the time. You people never focus on the good side about racing. You people usually only focus on the good side of jumping, dressage, and shit like that, but let me tell you, there is more pain and pressure in other disciplines. For example, jumping horses, hurts their legs if they go to high. Dressage, pulling on the mouth for a stupid move. Barrel racing, can cause the horse to easily slip or crack it’s neck because of how hard they pull. Racing is not the only abusive discipline there is. The majority of racehorses are treated with care. And let me tell you this, drugging and tasering a horse is illegal. People that work at the track test the racehorses if they have been drugged and they never are. Tasering is pretty easy to notice, and whipping? You guys are absolute idiots on this topic. They can only whip the horse 7 times and once you’re in the last furlong, the max is only 5 from that 7. So all of you shut the hell up and go back to your toy horses.

My dad actually used to own a bit of a race horse but my dad would never send a horse for slaughter but his horse broke his leg and had to be put down 😩😩😩
they don't go to the slaughter if they don't win.. we say "next time better love v"or ÿou will be sent to a better home with many horses and you will get to go to the pasture for 24/7 ".. and breaking legs and having heart attacks can happen at any moment and everywhere

We have a off the track race horse moving to are ranch do to having wobblers. He may only do walk trot and it’s extremely sad to see. He is living his best life though an is 22 years old. He will be hanging out with are hunter jumper and other horses at the ranch. Luckily not all race horses are slaughtered.

I just wanted to say, I love this short story! But most of this is inaccurate, horses do not always get killed for just not winning, it depends on the owner, and how cruel they are. My grandfather raced horses his entire life and now my uncle does, and we visit his farm every weekend, all his horses are cared for beautifully and not abused. This is a great film but I just wanted people to understand.

I know this is a point you are proving, but its illegal for a race horse to be sold to slaughter, dumped on land, ect. If the horse is not fit for racing anymore and retires, it gets trained to be a riding horse for the rest of its life.

i think that this was well made but i don’t agree with it at all. most racehorses don’t even race. only the ones that actually have potential race. i would say that 2/5 of horses meant for the track actually race (don’t quote me on the statistics because im not a vet)
And usually the ones who don't race get turned into sport horses.

Horses cannot trip on the leg wraps. Anyway some horses have really extensive gallop and they can hurt their front legs if their hind legs would touch.

I have a racehorse...Zalsnap .....abandoned...sold..then we brought him...he can't jump.. he is scared of whips once I showed him and he galloped away...be bucked a few times.he can up to 55k an hour..Why did they do this? to his brother??? or sisters?. I don't know..Why??.he won 7 or 6 times just why. Now he lives his life in a paddock with 3 other horses, getting ridden about every 3 days I love him More than Anything... and also he can't do trotting poles because his a flat racer..i still loved him my friends go riding on him!

This is so true. The racing industry is a terrible thing. Many riders get hurt as well, but horses get worse. Like the examples who have shown, many break legs, have heart attacks, or even are sent to slaughter. It’s awful how some people treat these beautiful animals. Try and grow a bond with the horse, and if it doesn’t win you shouldn’t send it to slaughter. The racing industry is dangerous, and it’s a horrible industry that just abuses horses. They train and train train, but when the race comes something terrible always happens. Either the rider falls off and breaks something or the horse gets worse. This is a lesson to people who are thinking about racing. Don’t. You will just regret what happens to your horse.
