  • This is my second video on setting up my new home automation server, and I am still installing components, this time InfluxDB 2.1, Grafana and Telegraf. I wanted to talk about it, because there are a few curve balls when it comes to using InfluxDB 2.x.
Everything I talk about in this video is documented here:
    github.com/nygma2004/km/wiki/...
    Chapters:
    0:00 Intro
    2:01 Why not Docker?
    3:13 Installing InfluxDB 2.x
5:27 Influx 1.x vs 2.x in high level
    9:50 Installing Telegraf
    15:40 Installing Grafana
    18:00 Flux connection in Grafana
    20:33 InfluxQL connection in Grafana
26:30 Adding Telegraf dashboard in Grafana

Same - I thought this ecosystem will be much, much better documented and supplied with helpful materials. Not the case, Mr. Varga here is the only source of meaningful information that I have managed to find so far. Much appreciated!

I agree, I don't use Docker for stuff like this. Why introduce a dependency / complication.

Hello, I have configured telegraf snmp plugin and is connecting to influxdb2 ok, but when I go to influxdb2 to query, snmp doesn’t show snmp. Do you know why snmp doesn’t show up on the bucket ?

    Great video.
    Thanks for making this video.
I am working on influxdb 2.1 & grafana (on Windows 10) since last couple of days and having some problems which are resolved after this video. Thanks again.
I also watched your nodered videos and I have one question about nodered. I am running nodered on Windows 10.
I want to export CSV on daily basis.
I am not able to do this. I think file path format for Windows is not similar to Linux which creates problem.
Can you guide mo on this???

You mean the Auto Logger function? Yes, you most probably need to change how the file path is created in the "Generate filename" function node. And replace my /home/pi to something like c:\users\xxxx\Documents\...."

Thanks for your work! But I had a problem. I did all the steps (new install of Influxdb v2), so I didn't have any existing. When I installed telegraf, I verified that it was running. I created the 'telegraf Bucket, then went to the 'API Tokens". I had my user token, but no bucket token. I restarted telegraf, didn't work. I deleted the 'telegraf' Bucket, created a new 'telegraf' Bucket, and only the single user token under 'API Tokens' - still no 'telegraf' token.
    Any suggestions?

    • @csongorvarga
      @csongorvarga  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Well, that is not clear for me either how these token are generated and what triggers it. But on the API Token page just click on the Generate API Token button and generate read/write token for your bucket.

my impression is, that influxdb became a mess with the 2.x update. it's basically a very different application compared to 1.x, which was also not the easiest to use. i made the upgrade a few months ago hoping it would make things easier with future updates but it just caused me to loose all my motivation and abandon making dashboards altogether.

@@csongorvarga in case you figure out how to downsample historical data in 2.x i would be glad for a tutorial - for me the benefit of influxdb would be to keep longterm data spanning over years
