    Just wanted to say thanks. Nearly three years after you posted this it is still extremely helpful. We've always cleaned the filters but, over time, the smell became overpowering. This step-by-step saved me!

    Being able to pull the brush out like that is a real bonus! In fact it looks like the DC25 strips down far easier than the DC14.

    I have the same vacuum. It's great, the only vacuum I've had that worked more than once. Cleaning out the top filter makes a huge difference in performance. When the filter is dirty, the carpet isn't being lifted as the vacuum passes over it, but when clean it lifts the carpet and sucks up all the crap.

    • @oojagapivy
      @oojagapivy  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When we first got ours, the suction on the carpet was so strong it was hard to push it, now .. meh!
      Filters will go back in tomorrow. Gave plenty of time to dry.

      @cannsmith 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oojagapivy do you feel the loss of suction power could be regained through new filters or that it’s due more to mechanical wear

    • @oojagapivy
      @oojagapivy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@cannsmith could be a combination of both. I’d have to try new filters to see what difference they made.

    I just cleaned mine today, that cyclone section also comes apart quite easily, the bottom part just pulls out, and I used a flat head screwdriver to prise apart the larger grey mesh section. You'll need a torx bit to remove the final piece, but it's worth taking the full cyclone section apart, as there was a lot of dirt and gunk in mine that I wouldn't have got to otherwise.
    Good video otherwise, a quick and simple job to get your Dyson performing like new.

    • @oojagapivy
      @oojagapivy  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Stuart Howieson definitely worth it. I figured the cyclone would come apart too. Might look into it next clean, or soon. 👍🏻 thanks for watching

    • @waqasahmed939
      @waqasahmed939 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oojagapivy I watched this, just to see if I've done it to the recommended service, or beyond it.
      I took the cyclone apart on the DC14, and washed it out thoroughly. My motor has died, and the filters are really filthy - A wash won't cover that, so I've ordered a new motor, and a couple of new filters on eBay. The total cost is £20 which isn't so bad
      The cyclone part is just plastic too, which is nice, as you can just run water through it without any actual harm
      Now I'll just have to see how the motor goes back, and then I'll once again be back at peak efficiency, just like how it was, all the way back in 2004 (plus maybe three months as I couldn't get every little bit of dirt off, even after washing) but I can live with that

    • @oojagapivy
      @oojagapivy  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@waqasahmed939 I considered doing a much larger breakdown after I finished this, seeing that it could be broken down further quite easily. It's looking due for another service, so I may just do that.
      Good luck with the new motor.

    • @waqasahmed939
      @waqasahmed939 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@oojagapivy Thanks. I've had to get a screwdriver from toolstation given that the screwdriver set I have is just bits and the screwdriver just isn't long enough
      So I'll collect that tomorrow and hopefully work with the T15 screws then
      If I get another five years out of it, that'd be absolutely great

      @@oojagapivy So my repair didn't go so well. I fixed the motor but I messed up somewhere else. I think because I broke the clip on the HEPA filter at the post motor part.
      That meant that the suction from it just went the wrong way entirely. Ah well, it was a learning experience. My aim was for it to NOT go to landfill but I guess that's gonna have to happen now unfortunately

    We got this hoover but our brushes have stopped turning. Is this going to be a quick fix if I pull the roller out?

    • @oojagapivy
      @oojagapivy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the small drive belt is ok then I should think so. It’s amazing how a collection of dust and hair can clog the brushes and reduce their effectiveness and ability to turn.

    Hi, I got this vacuum from an someone for free...however It smells like a mix of perfume...any recommendation on how to get rid of the smell. I just finished washing the filters and my husband did the brush, He will also use the compressor to blow it out. It looks like the person that had it before me picked up a white powder with the vacuum also. THanks!

    • @oojagapivy
      @oojagapivy  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The powder may have been perfumed talcum powder. Washing the filters should do the trick, but have a check of the hoses. There may be powder stuck in there, keeping the smell there also.

      @@oojagapivy If the machine is in general good working order, how often should you replace the filters with new ones?

    • @oojagapivy
      @oojagapivy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@markyboy213 I’ve never looked into the replacement costs of the filters. I feel that as long as you clean them regularly, not leaving them for too long like I had, then the suction shouldn’t be reduced. If cleaning doesn’t improve the suction then look into replacing them.
