      It's insane isn't it! Lows of 6-7c here lately!

    No greenhouse or poly tunnel at my house, but I watched all the way through anyway lol
    Everything I’m going to get is already in the ground. I’m on Fruit Watch and Damage Control from now until frost. Although I am toying with the idea of growing a bit of late lettuce for BLTs and autumn tacos, cravable foods using fresh tomatoes

    Radishes have always been my nemesis, they always bolt on me. This year they seemed to be growing beautifully until a slug decided to eat all the leaves off them 😫

      I too have issues with slugs and radishes! A real pain!

      Bolting is triggered by warm soil temperature. I don’t know the triggering number, probably different for each plant. But If you can keep the soil cool you can delay bolting. It WILL happen though unless you’re watering with ice water morning noon & night lol but lots of people think it’s amount of light. Nope.

      @@lobodo988 Yes, I knew it was temp, I put them in a really cool corner of my garden this year and they were growing really well and then the slugs got them 🤦🏼‍♀️ I can’t seem to win 😔

    It’s crazy to think of you saying the growing season is almost over 😢 but it’s true now it’s all about what to grow for fall and over wintering. I need to look at things to get in the ground now. Thanks for the suggestions Jim, happy growing, Ali 🌞🇨🇦

      There isn't long left at all when you think about it. I hate the winter as well, especially with the UK winters being soggy and dull. It's not even pretty and snowy most of the time

    Great video, reminds me to plant more beans. I agree and can't stress enough the need to re-sow in June and July. You get a lot more food,, and also as your Feb, March and April sowings are hopefully now be going strong - more runner bean leaves and flowers appearing daily than you can count, tomatoes finally coming to flower, squash plants weaving weaving their merry way through your allotment - you will have so many daily tending, checking and watering tasks, thus focusing less on waiting for your precious seeds to germinate, which will do so when you're not looking! It's a win win sowing throughout the summer.

      I agree things grow so quick in July and can catch up to things sown even earlier! Just a shame this month is so cold in the UK, we are still having overnight lows of 6-7c which is insane!
      Happy growing to you! 💚

      @@downtoearthwithjim Thanks Jim! Yes, it takes a bit more perseverance with this weather. Plants have a dormant stage when the conditions aren't right, so I always try to remind gardener friends not to panic! Their plants are not dying, they're just waiting for the right moment. I notice a lot of people are talking about indoor growing because of the unpredictable weather, although it's not my preffered way as I'd much rather be outside. Happy growing to you too and thanks for all the brilliant and educational content.

      You're very welcome! I've put some more in as well in modules as slugs will clear them out if direct sown outside. Happy growing!

      It's the same for me, too. I'm going to try sowing more of these this month but I'm honestly hoping the weather picks up. Hang on in there and don't give up, it's a terrible year this year for us all

    • @downtoearthwithjim
      @downtoearthwithjim  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you mean growing the garlic in a greenhouse or polytunnel? If so, yes. They'll grow faster and be ready to harvest earlier. My garlic grown under cover is usually ready weeks before the outdoor planted garlic

      Bit early in August for garlic. It's best to start garlic from around late September
