I love how you explain what you did not like about the painting and how you went back to make it work so that we understand that even when we are not perfect the first time or dislike how something looks, we shouldn’t scrap the whole thing. Just go with it and make it work. Thank you for pointing those things out as I think it is super important especially as a beginner to understand that all paintings are a work in progress and that we may not have it down perfect right away.
your tutorials are amazingly instructional, your demeanor is relaxed, your approach to the intricacies of the subject is impeccable… but your raspy voice STEALS THE SHOW (when kitty is out of the picture) thank you for sharing your knowledge and your time.
I watch a lot of watercolor tutorials but yours are my favorite. I love how you explain not only what you're doing, but also your thought process. It's incredibly helpful for a beginner with no art background. I have little "aha" moments with you all the time. And your bloopers make me snort-laugh.
You've got such a great sense of humour, Louise - I love the bloopers as much as the tutorials. Beautiful painting and so interesting to learn about this aspect of colour theory and to hear about your journey.
Your outtakes are hilarious! I found this video at just the right time to do a background for a lotus flower I painted and I AM SO SCARED OF MESSING IT UP 😂
Hello from the Philippines!!!! I am so glad I found your chanel. I homeschool my 7 yr old son and through homeschooling I found my love for watercolor. I love to draw when I was a child. I try to paint your blue bird, though not perfect my family love it!!! Btw, my son says your voice is so relaxing :). Thank you for sharing your tutorials.
I don’t think I’ve ever painted with just 2 colors and this was a great lesson. Also the layering of wet color over previous wet color that had dried. It was amazing to watch this magic of water and color. Thank you.
This is the second video of yours I have watched today, both being about your own learning curve and exploration. Thank you for sharing that experience. I have the SQ book and will use it with a different approach and attitude. Watching your experience and listening to your thoughts helps validate my own journey which is not as developed as yours! I'm headed to Patreon to sign up for your tutorials. Have followed you for a couple years here; now have funds for a subscription. Thank you also for your generosity with the TH-cam videos. Your work is both beautiful and inspiring; your teaching style is encouraging.
On your recommendation I purchased the Stephen Quiller's book, and I love it. It's easy to follow, and I've already learned so much from it. Thank you!
I agree. Stephen Quiller's book is fantastic. Thanks for applying his color theory to one of your paintings. Your demonstration, as always, was wonderful.
Your artwork is incredible. You are also a very good communicator and really go to great lengths to instruct us on the how’s and why’s which so very little instructors do. Thank you 😊
avesome pretty :) good job ... I like the idea with the palette limited to 2 colors. sometimes less is more. I hope I can discover more such useful color pairs in my collection.
Hi Louise, You're a wonderful instructor. I'm primarily an oil painter, and started also using watercolors about 10 years ago! Wish my instructor at that time had taught me as much as you have :)
Really useful tutorial. I've read books on colour theory, but not really understood the significance. To see you apply this to your work is very helpful. I hope you do some more explorations following on from his book.
What a gorgeous painting! Thank you for the demo - can't wait for it on Patreon. I do so enjoy your instructions, and sometimes watch a video up to 5 or more times just for the sheer magic! Can't wait to try some of the more "difficult" studies, meaning that even the beginner level is still way above my expertise😁. Please take care.
Excellent tutorial on painting magnolias and giving the step by step instructions provides good instructions for learners such as myself. Thank you for this excellent lesson.
Just gorgeous! I love magnolias and you really did them proud in this painting. Thank you for the tutorial and I look forward to painting it along with you on Patreon
Louise De Masi, you are amazing. This tutorial on color theory is so worthwhile. You are an excellent teacher. Your humility is amazing. Your talent is obvious. You encourage and inspire. Thank you.
Oh my goodness Louise! This video clearly demonstrates what a brilliant artist you are! I shall not be able to do this tutorial, at my stage, but what I shall do however is to practise mixing colours in this way and doing small, simple things to start me off. It also teaches us that we don't need to crave all the paints 'out there' but should, instead, try to mix our own amazing hues from what we already have - even varying brands etc. If you continue studying your new book then we shall all end up as alchemists! Thank you for sharing your discoveries - don't forget to get some rest too. No doubt I shall be dreaming in colour as I head off to bed now!
You are so sweet Louise! 😘 I am always happy to find a new tutorial from you and I always watch it till the last second ☺️ Wish you a nice weekende! Send you lovely greetings from Germany!
Wonderful lesson and a beautiful painting. I loved the color play in the flowers. Also it helped me when you went back and worked on the background again. I'm always so fearful of backgrounds as I have messed up some paintings by painting a bad background. I also want to say you are a fantastic instructor and explain everything so well. Thank you so much for sharing!
Very pretty magnolias, I look forward to trying those, I am eager to follow your lesson as you are so skillful in sharing what you have learned about complementary colors, a new adventure! 💜💛💚
Thank you Louise for this video. Been wanting to paint Magnolias with a limited palette but failed miserably with the colour mixing. Appreciate the effort you put to make it simple and easy to understand for a beginner. Much love ♥️
Wow! I learned so much in this video. Time to go play with some paints. You are such a generous person and I am so lucky to have found you, to have internet connection to watch you, and money for paints and paper.
