    Nice review, thanks! One remark though, exterior design by the late Geoff Lawson and not Ian Callum (who joined later).

    I had one in royal blue. After three years of driving around with the top down the gearbox blew and I scratched and dented it parking. Couldnt raise the money to fix it and eventually sold it.
    When I realised my mistake I cried like a baby for ages.
    Infact I remained broken hearted right up until I bought my new convertible but Im not saying what that is.
    Its a roadster-funky, sexy little thing 'Japanese and reliable!!!!

    I think Ian Callum designed the next XK.
    Geoff Lawson designed this one,
    passed away in 1999, bless him

    I really like my XKR. Was thinking about Detroit wheels but I'm glad I didn't get them after seeing this car crash over the imperfections. A few fact checking tidbits: It was designed by Geoff Lawson, not Ian Cullum. The hood vents are plastic, not aluminum. The chrome trim around the tail lights is not an XKR thing, it a 2001-2006 XK8 & XKR thing. It doesn't have a Magnuson M112 supercharger, it has an Eaton M112 supercharger. Great video though, and great salesman!

    Love the video, my dad had a 98 xk8 & I used to have to sit in the back of it for school lifts. Loved how smooth it was and when he used to put it in sport mode you used to just see the fuel gauge go down so fast. Must admit I preferred his cream leather seats. I think the car done 250k miles before the chain snapped :( ... Brings back good memories watching this, thanks.

      cool thanks for watching, this was a real throw back filming this car. still a beauty still to this day, i have been seeing many on the road the past 3 months they are a bargain to own today.

      completely agree, here in the UK they are still cheap as well, circa £6-10k... in 10-15 years these cars are going to increase massively in price.

    i have a 2001 8200 miles and totally gorgeous. it lives under cover in garage with wool balls soaked in peppermint to keep mice out. led light under engine. i think there has never been a more beautiful car at any price.

      yeah these are sharp looking cars and a bargain to buy today but mechanicals can be expensive to repair we have a 2002 in our shop that has become a money pit for the customer but yours should hold up for many years just fine, common things to fail are the throttle bodies, electric fans, sensors and the convertible top fluid lines leak all other stuff is fairly basic to maintain

      @@autofanaticcars thanks i drive it once every couple of weeks for maybe 20 miles. its added benefit is its pure eye candy. we also have a 1957 restored John Deere 420 2 cylinder tractor thats the same way and a Honda Fury bike is being delivered today. we have a beautiful horse and a camaro. we drive a basic nissan sentra to save all the others. we will keep an eye out for your warnings. we have had little problems so far easily fixed with warning lights

    Great vid. I totally agree about the later Jags. I have a 98 red Arden coupe xkr with Detroit wheels and I LOVE it. I don't think I will get a later Jaguar. I owned an S type V8 as a stepping stone but the newer ones don't really do it for me.

  • @Biggles

    Very true what you mentioned about the older Jags wondering on the road with big wheels and tyres. Worst is the XJR6 which can tramline quite bad.

    • @autofanaticcars
      @autofanaticcars  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      these cars were never designed for these heavy 20 wheels and they ride and handle bad on rutted roads, the front knuckle assembly is not strong enough for the added weight, if you ever go to buy one get one with 18's they drive much better

    front mesh grille is no the best - can be done better than this. what about Brembo brakes ?
    you can replace yellow side lights with newer ones. badging of the R can be better ( at least in 🇬🇧).
    come to West Midlands if you want to know what can be done to this car. It’s where the car was born and the Jag Engineers locally to me got so: wonderful upgrades.

    I’m on my last and best Jaguar, a blue 2002 XKR, my 10th Jaguar (1 Daimler), starting with a MK2 in 1969. I say last because from here on they’ve dropped the walnut veneer dashboard, so not proper Jaguar 🧐. Only criticisms of your good critic are a) it’s a JAGUAR, not a JAGWAAR, try pronouncing the U, 2) it appeals to lots of people below the age of 40, a young boy passed my car a few days ago and just said “nice car” Friends of my 12 year old grandson came and looked over the car when I picked him up from school.

    examples at super prices.

    The 2002 and below is garbage . The 4.0 is a problem motor . You want the 4.2 which was a far better motor and transmission which also was 6speed vs the 2002 was the 5 speed

    • @bcastro2798

      + 220.000km

    • @michaelbooher4460
      @michaelbooher4460 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is nothing inherently wrong with the 4.0 From mid year 2000 the nikesal lining was history. So for a late 2000-2002 all you need to do is update the timing chain tensioners with a kit, and replace the water pump with the metal impeller part. A new thermostat would be a good idea. Then it's as good as the 4.2

    • @Rezparviz
      @Rezparviz 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael Booher Maybe as Good as the 4.2 . But
      Your better off with the 4.2 . No reason to spend a ton of money to update all that when you can but a 4.2 which has a better motor and tranny from the beginning.

      i still have my 2001 XKR and it will trash a V12 Bentley anytime off the lights. And will still does 0- 62mph in 5.1/2 secs Unmodified thank you very much... but you'll need to change the airflow meter after 100k.The 4'0 litre can be every bit as reliable and quick as the 4.2 litre and actually has a much more classic grill with the narrower shark's mouth resonant of the E type. Cost 251 k new in Australia and just starting to go up now on secondary market. A beautiful elegant car especially with the top down though I do miss the line of the hard top coupe....
