Tbh it's hard to deny how much rio loved beth. It was so many clear signs but it was as if he was torn in-between letting her go and keeping her close. He would constantly tell her that the street life wasn't worth it and that she needs to go home to her family; Because he cared. But when she'd finally break free he would find any excuse to get her back whether or not that meant she'd be mad at him.

Rick is more honest, he is who he is, he has no image and he sees things real. Nick, on the other hand, often creates an image. By the way, I think Rick and Elizabeth's relationship is not toxic because until the moment Elizabeth chooses Rio over Nick, there is essentially no relationship. Just business, work. Rio really "teaches" Elizabeth, “teaches” her that she's not just a pretty mum and housewife like Dean, for example, thinks she is. Rio sees her full potential. And once he sees that she has surpassed him, really surpassed him, he recognises her as a boss. I love the moment when Rio takes all the money for the company. It may seem like he is offended that Elizabeth has assumed that Nick is “boss-brother”. But really, he shows her that Nick is just an image. Elizabeth should have no illusions about him, even if she starts to think that Nick has made it all up. Rio opens her eyes to Elizabeth's omnipotence.
