@JonSief that's a different form of greatness, some become great by first of all, thinking they are the best, some become great and are humble, nevertheless, just cuz he's confident and says what he thinks it doesn't mean he isn't great or hasn't put in the work to get to where he is right now.

That’s a valid point, but it also shows real character when you’re humble about your accomplishments and respect all other players. Not saying that Ronaldo is not respectful, but Messi has never bragged about his achievements and has never referred to himself as the best (even though he could rightfully so). He has good character too.

In psychology its called insecurity. He knows he’s not the best and says the opposite trying to change reality. At the same time the real best never said he was the best.

Its been his biggest mistake as a footballer. He could have has a much cooler career if he didnt think as himself as the best. The best example is when he did nothing at the champions league final and right after the match he announced that he was leaving Madrid. @@Subhasis_thats_IT no he wasn't. In the beginning he played as a wide winger supporting the strikers up front. Around 2006-7 season, the team started playing more with a 3-man attack which meant he was closer to goal and he started scoring a lot more. The biggest difference for me though, was in 2014-15 season. He drastically reduced his dribbling, played more one-touch football, and focused more on getting into scoring positions than dribbling or running with the ball to create chances. The difference was so noticeable that even the guys making CR7 skills comps on TH-cam, their videos went from 12+ minutes to about 8 or less. Then later they started adding his passes to make up the extra minutes😅
