    I get chills watching this. John Facenda's voice and Sam Spence's music are timeless...

    39:52 one of the legendary quotes and scenes from NFL films when the great John Facenda says "Denver needed more restoration work from Norris Weese and what it got instead was a DEMOLITION JOB FROM THE DOOMSDAY DEFENSE" cue the awesome music!!! As a Cowboy fan since I was a tot in the early 70's this gives me chills.

    Great examples of Harry Kalas and John Facenda. The two best voices in sports media, ever.

    the '70s were the golden years of the NFL (at least for me)... back when football was worth watching... but not anymore...

    When the game was on the line there was nobody better in the final 2 minutes than Snake Stabler. He was part of more famous game than anyone... '72 Immaculate Reception.. '74 Sea of Hands... '77 Ghost to the Post... '78 Holy Roller..

      His last great comeback game with the Raiders was a Monday night game against the Saints in New Orleans. Down 35-14 Stabler passed the Raiders to a remarkable 42-35 win.

    This one was narrated by Harry Kallas and not John Facenda. And no, that wasn't a catch by Butch Johnson.

    • @aktxag
      @aktxag 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s not a catch by today’s rules. It was a catch by the rules in 1977. Once Butch Johnson crossed the plane with the ball in his grasp, the play was over according to the rules of the time. Surviving the ground was not a thing back then.

    The glory days of defense and great uniforms.

    • @haroldmccoy6748
      @haroldmccoy6748 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I agree about the defensive element,not uniforms by a long shot . We gotta admit , despite our hunger for hard hitting, fundamental, tackling , defensive football,the era was too defensive saturated ,changes benifetting further offensive production had to be desperately implemented to ensure more offensive production and explosive long plays which were minimized far to excessively , until 1978 . Sadly ,through the years,the NFL governing bodies began to unjustifiably construct rules which were in vast abundance unequally distributed ,granting supreme beneficial advantage towards offenses . The game has now lost it's physicality of yore ,defenses are so handicapped behind the rules handcuffing them from a fundamental element of being able to hit ,and tackle ,that it's moreso a live video game . I'm not suggesting a return to 16- 13 scores pre 1978 , but I also don't enjoy the concept of 15 or more players surpassing 1000 yds recieving ,QB 's routinely cascading past 4000 yds , and 28 tds ,many of these guys actually believe without objective context applied,that video game career accumulation numbers make them Hof worthy . Defenseless wr ,mandate in how a defender can fall on a QB , too woke , liberal rules ,have deminshed one of the most pronounced original ,basic foundation of football ,hitting ,and tackling rambunctiously . Yes,a more expanded platform was needed to ensure player safety ,clothesline take downs , snagging ball carrier by back of Jersey , flopping on QB after he's delivered the ball , or understandable rules ,that i wholeheartedly agree with , but you can't alter the dynamic of the games basic elements too much ,these players grasp what their job sacrifice requirements are ,nobody is forcing them to be a football player , defenses should be allowed to detonate a offensive player .I also miss that NFL kind of football,moderations applied for safety ,but , nevertheless,hitting , intimidating tackling .

    I miss the old stadiums. Fulton County, Three Rivers, Cleveland Municiplal, Metropolitan, Shea, Astrodome, Memorial. Yeah they were old and not very football friendly with baseball infields and astroturf, but it made the games seem so less corporate.

    • @ericjackson7632
      @ericjackson7632 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I wish there could be a balance, but too much corporate money is in there now. Knowing what it did to player bodies, I hate astroturf, but love stadiums named after cities/counties and not whoever paid the most bucks. It's the world we are in however now.

    Nobody really talks about these Broncos teams anymore. These Broncos made the playoffs three years in a row but John Elway's appearance in 1983 made everything before then nonexistent.

      Facenda and Kalas complimented one another well. Facenda's style was elegant and poetic, whereas Kalas' was more "tell it like it is".

    In 1977, the Dallas Cowboys fielded the greatest team in its history. Even better than the ‘92 team. #1 in both offense and defense. Rookie of the year. Defensive player of the year. The top rated QB in the NFC. That team had it all.

    Dallas was the best team in the NFC in 1976 but somehow lost to the rams in the playoffs. They just carried that over to 77 where they were dominant w a mission. Denver caught lightning in a bottle. The raiders were aging. The 77 Steelers had major locker room issue and Bradshaw broke his wrist. The colts would have been a great fantasy football team, but no D and fragile mentality. But the gap between Denver and Dallas was huge. The Cowboys beat them twice and neither game was competitive. The Steelers or raiders give Dallas a much tougher SB game.

      The Raiders were so good this year as the SB defending champs and taking everyone’s best shot. An upset loss to the Chargers, 12-7, killed its home field advantage for the playoffs. The Colts OT game took so much out of them. To this day the best SB that never happened was Raiders-Cowboys from this 1977 season.

      Thomas Henderson said in his book the Dallas players were asking each other during the game how did the bears get to the playoffs lol. Truth is the bears were a one man gang and you were not going to beat Dallas w no passing game.
