This is genuinely better than any other how to shoot bideo I've ever seen. It feels abstract sometimes when someone just spurts out information, rather than this down to earth approach. Also I've been through so many of the scenarios you talked about
I really appreciate that. I agree, it can get extremely over whelming with people giving information overload. I've found in my experience that players generally shoot the way they're going to shoot and it's much easier to ruin a shot than make one better.
I changed mine e times total in my career. Sometimes it's necessary, but needs to be very intentional and purposeful. I'm glad what you've got is working now.
its always the underrated ones producing the best content, one question how do i exactly know im releasing from my middle finger, i just snap my wrist straight down and cant tell what im releasing off
Much appreciated! One way I like to readjust or self check, is to just shoot the ball to myself or just shoot it into the air and watch the spin. Just repping the feeling out until I'm happy with the spin and release. Then trying to do that on the baskwt. Another way I help players I coach is to just record them shooting like 20 shots. Then letting them watch it back so they can realize which finger they shoot with.
Thanks for the advice I feel like when I shoot I don’t have enough power to shoot from deep but when I shoot as hard as I can it goes too hard and I just can’t shoot threes
That's ok, it's just touch and rhythm in your mechanics. I would just shoot the majority of my shots from the distance you're comfortable, then go shoot like 5 or 10 from deep. Then back to where you're comfortable, just mix it in slowly until your mechanics start to feel more similar and you build up the strength and muscle memory. Don't want to practice a ton from deep right away if you're having to overhaul your shot.
I have tryouts in about 2 weeks, im a freshman in highschool and im above average and want to get better. can you do a video on drills i should practice to improve?
Good luck mate and hope it goes well. I will try and get some out as soon as I can. One big thing to remember for tryouts is to always be available for an "example" and try to constantly be positive and have a good attitude. At that age if you are involved and always cheering on other players that's a huge bonus. For drills, you really want to be confident handling pressure and making open shots. Try some stationary 2 ball dribbling drills if you can find them, and then just rep your shot. Being in shape will help too. Going for a 5-10 minute run every day to help be prepared.
i think you helped me like understand my issue i need shooting cues but i have question is it possible to ever be a never miss shooter or no because thats what im trying to become a shooter that never misses but idk if that is possible im not talking about like curry because even he misses i mean like 85+ shooting percentage like if they dont block me it is going in type shooting yk ngl bro you speak facts without wasting my time like you telling me things that are actually worth learning and not just things that will end up creating bad habits or just wasting my time/making no difference
Much appreciated mate. The beauty of the game is that chase for "perfection" or to become a "never miss" shooter. It is impossible but by trying to chase that goal, you might become a player that shoots at a crazy high percent. Aim for the stars so if you fail you'll still end up in the clouds. Then you will definitely have those days where you actually can't miss and that's what the grind is for. Those small moments of perfection. Curry in the Olympics etc...
Thank you! Currently the ball comes off my ring and pinky should I start of close trying different fingers then shoot close one handed for like 2-3 weeks?
There's no real right or wrong answer. It's moreso you knowing which fingers feel more comfortable and which have more control for you. Then you want to just replicate that as much as possible. If it's coming off of your pinky then you're likely not getting your elbow under the ball and pushing up, you're probably pushing sideways if that makes sense.
That's a normal feeling. The best thing to do is build confidence in your form by having some success. That's why reps are so important. Your form is likely not THAT bad, but it's nearly impossible to build confidence and muscle memory if you keep changing things. I would go 1 month at least of trying to improve on my current shot before even considering changing anything. Sometimes videoing yourself is a good way to stay on target.
No problem, it's tough to diagnose without seeing your shot. But usually shooting straight is easiest when your toe, knee, elbow and ball are in line or fairly close anyways. If you're doing that then you're likely using your off hand too much, could be either of those.
Hi, thank you for your videos, this one helped me a lot actually. I just like to have your opinion on this question, from when I Cath the ball to the set point, should I keep the same angle with my shooting arm (the famous 90° or less) until I reach my set point, or should I let it go freely ? Hope my question is clear enough, thank you in advance and wish you good fortune.
It depends on what feels comfortable to you. 90 degrees is more a suggestion than a hard rule. Might be worth recording yourself trying both ways, finding out which one feels better, then just making sure you're consistent by replicating it each time.
Never understood the “release the ball from your index finger”. To do that i need to twist my hand to the right side giving the ball a sidespin, also can’t replicate that even if i try hard, the ball is still instinctively released from middle finger
@themidrange since you replied, make a vid about how underrated are bank shots!!! I went from 50% to 70% from mid range when i started banking from 45 degree angle aiming at an edge of small rectangle. It could really help people make more shots! Thanks! Great vids
GOD BLESS, fire video i have one problem i cant guide the ball it hits the rim or it either slams the backboard so hard ( overshooting ) what should i do ?
If youre consistently shooting straight I'd say you probably just need more reps. Also, depends on the distance but sounds like you're struggling timing your legs and arms with the release. Again, reps fixes this but also reps at specific distances, rather than shooting from all over.
Both. Static shots are great for building repetition and consistency and focusing on the form. Motion shots will help you translate that to game type shots. Then doing motion shots against a live defense would be the next step. 1 on 1 etc...
I really appreciated this vid btw but i struggle with energy transfer in my 3 point also idk where to release the ball if its above my head or by my eyebrow last thing does your form change as you go behind the ark take care !!!
Ya energy transfer is really a timing thing, just gotta rep it out until it becomes second nature and knowing that distance changes the timing slightly. The release should be what feels most comfortable, mine is above my head but some people prefer by the eye. My form slightly changes the further I go out so I had to develop a set shot for really deep shots and then my jumpshot for more quick release situations or mid range.
@themidrange ight imma rep it out a really appreciate what ur doing and your genuine gonna blow up if you keep at it ,your advice is better than most and your content is not only enjoyable but beneficial ,stay safe
@themidrange sorry last think bro I've been following the tops just like you said but as I step away from.the hoop like further bac my shot goes back obviously I need to rep it out more would u suggesting I put up all form shots until it feels second nature and slowly step back or just form shots at the start and u keep on shooting or sum different
@@gazzilionfn112 It's completely up to you and what you described is very natural. I sometimes like to sprinkle in a few shots every workout from the distance where im uncomfortable, for example: if Im really working on mid range and shooting like 100 of those, ill then go shoot like 10 threes. Then Ill go back and shoot more midrange. Then eventually threes feel more normal and you do the same thing there, shoot about 100 threes and then shoot 10 from a step further back.
Definitely having touch will help, but the same rules apply. Even young kiddos that I coach that are strong enough to shoot properly I would give them the same advice as in this video. If it feels difficult to make the distance while focusing on touch then it may just be strength and repetition needed. What age group are you playing?
@@themidrange Thanks, I’ve heard Kobe had smaller fingers so I don’t think it will severely handicap my shooting. I think have a lot of space to improve.
what about ball on your palm? I use to do it but this summer I've started to switch into ball on the fingers, with that little gap beneath the ball(obviously not on the tip of my fingers). I'm getting automatic with it but sometimes I still overthink and become uncertain about going back or keep shooting like this. Thanks for the great video btw
No problem at all. Yes ideally you want the ball to have a tiny gap away from the palm but there are tons of times when I'm shooting and I don't get it there. When that happens I focus more on the release and which finger it leaves. Try to keep the ball off the palm when you're just shooting by yourself and build up that habit. But when it comes to playing and live situations don't worry about it.
Just gotta be conscious of it when loading up every shot. If you do strong fingers in your shooting pocket, it should almost always make you have a locked wrist.
I feel like occasionally I use my guide hand a little too much that causes my shot to not spin normally or is a little short. Is shooting one handed with the guide hand next to it the best way to correct this?
I use my guide hand a bit when shooting, the best thing to do is always be aware of those habits and how they effect our shots. So rather than change your entire shot, just concentrate on using your guide hand a little less each week.
It's likely mental for you. Like being able to shoot under pressure or the speed is probably what's causing this. There are alot of shooting drills that can help with this that I will post soon. Basically practicing against time pressure or against a clock can help simulate what you feel in a game.
It feels like i get no power or have no range when i shoot the ball. I have searched online and it said to transfer energy more efficiently but no of it seems to work. Do you have any tips on how to get more power in my shot?
That's generally coming from the legs and snapping the wrist. Trying to get those to work together to transfer the power is tough. But if you're not strong enough it's ok to start closer and just grind out shots to get stronger. Then each week or every few days move back a tiny bit.
Sometimes the ball is on the wrong side of my head, or just too far to that side, but when i put my elbow straight 90 degrees, it feels un-natural and I Don’t get as much power. Should i change my jumpshot?
If youre effective shooting the way you shoot now it's probably not worth changing but I'd ask a couple things. Some people are right handed but they are left eye dominant, meaning that you actually aim with your left eye. That causes people to move the ball closer to that eye at times which may be the case for you. Secondly, elbow under the ball is just 'generally' under the ball, doesn't have to be 90 degrees. Most people shoot with their elbow bowed out a tiny bit so as long as you can hold the ball with one hand and it's not rolling off to the side you're probably far enough under.
The less you can thumb flick obviously the better, but it mainly depends if it's leaving the thumb last or the shooting fingers. If you're consistently able to release it with the same finger the thumb flick is not the end of the world. Just focus over time slowly relying on it less.
I personally prefer shots taken, because that's a variable that won't change. People get hung up on makes and misses but I don't think makes are impressive if you're allowed unlimited attempts. Shots taken gives you a good baseline to grade yourself.
